A few weeks ago I built myself a securities portfolio built out of a few tech stocks (banking on nVidia to outpace its rivals). I took up a large position (1:1 cash/margin) in it after reading positive reviews, checking their financials, and armed with a little industry knowledge ;). When the subprime problem started, I sold all my other positions and built a hedge (with remaining cash/margin) to prevent any losses from that block of stock. This worked for a while and I unwound the position (except my target, nVidia) to take profits while I waited for that last big chunk to edge up to my limit order.

The subprime problem turned from a rumor to a fact, and the stock blew apart on all the news of slowdowns. :dunno:

I bought 35000 of these shares at 29c each back in Dec '05 (AU$10k and a little bit).
I want to buy another property, so I planned to sell them after New Year '08. but....

How are yours doin' Guy? On the up & up?

Hopefully that's the worst over with, and we can all start making money again.
That was a scary few months.
