This is my Dragonian, a "not-so-traditional-dragon". More related to the Komodo dragon. And yeah, he uses the same airbrusher as the "300". Fun to see so many entries. And he's a bonehead...

Great work everyone, this was an awesome contest and difficult to vote on, but, I will cast my vote.
1) Noviski: great style, simple in execution and funny as hell.
2) Silvaticus : Loved your style, and your speed was incredible. Great job!
3) cmarcus : Dude I loved your render and composition on this one. Your style was simple, but I couldn't stop looking at it. 5 stars if I could give them to ya!
I know we are only allowed 3 votes but al3k had a great concept and nice render. This was difficult to choose.
11-02-2008, 10:31 AM

11-02-2008, 08:11 PM
It's very hard to make choices here. All works are amazing, but I'm not voting for "render-quality-plugins". I'm voting for those images who's "telling" me something, like beauty, humour or any emotions. So, my (difficult) choices are:
A lot of good works here, but some entries are missing the point when trying to make a "stylized" animal, IMHO. And here's my hint: try to spend more time on your concept, to create one image with some content, instead wasting hours rendering your work.
11-02-2008, 08:30 PM
11-02-2008, 10:42 PM
It's a lot of time that i don't post here,i really loved that week
1) Siege - Totally love it,texture are simply great
2) silvaticus - you end up with a great render and model, remember me Gon in some way...:)
3) Noviski - as usual totally good from start to finish, but maybe you could work a little bit more in composition and rendering (me too :wall: )
Great work from everyone else!!
13-02-2008, 05:33 AM
13-02-2008, 10:51 AM
I agree with Noviski that it's supposed to be a stylised animal challenge and also I would think that if a concept is put forward, it should not be repeated by someone else. At least that's what I try to do. If my idea has been done first, I'll try to change my concept just to be original...
13-02-2008, 11:18 AM
looks like somethings up here. wonder what that is?
13-02-2008, 02:03 PM
wonder if my entry looks like i spent hours rendering it?? If it does then im happy. i just threw it together just for an entry.
13-02-2008, 02:46 PM
Please, don't get me wrong, folks. I just wrote that trying to justify my vote. That's why I call it MY opinion. (@stiderotte, thanks for your support).
I allways try to follow the rules of the Challenge (that's include a concept), and also respect the opinion, critics and suggestions from everyone. But, as I said before, some entries are missing the point when trying to make a "stylized" animal, in some cases is just a static animal with a spetacular rendering! I miss the humour, the fun or the emotion of the jobs. If I can't catch it, I believe many of artists are not enjoying the contest (once again, IMHO).
I'm not in the "God Mode" here, but the Challenge could be more enjoyable, don't you agree? So, let's try to make more stylised and funny images!:haha:
13-02-2008, 03:03 PM
I skip the concept most of the times for two main reasons:
1. No time for sketching.
2. I have the concept in my head, and it often goes through changes during the process.
But I agree with Novisky.
13-02-2008, 03:26 PM
Well, I agree with Noviski.
I entered into this contest wanting to do a dragon. I hoped to turn the dragon into something. Unfortunately I didn't have enough free time.
I always vote with the theme in mind. My dragon has no theme. But with the work I did put into it I do want to finish what I can. I personally posted the image so I qualify for the free magazine download. I love this magazine. I have bought every issue or received a free download with this...I am trying to keep my collection going.
So I am with Noviski, I always look for the humour and the style in these contests. I also hope for large participation, and enjoy reading the post of people who are designing and also helping those that design. More participation please. If the image fails to meet the criteria of the contest, so be it, that is where the voting decides it.
13-02-2008, 06:05 PM
didn´t make it this time, but thanks to all for the nice comments!
a lot of cool work here!
1. cmarcus: that´s what I call styllized!!
2. silvaticus: excellent from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail!! (maybe the "resin figure" look...not my type..just me... not a big deal really ;) )
3. mies: what can i say? cute!, hehehe
and some of my favourites: novisky, stiderotte, nocturn & etc!... well, hard to pick just three :S & excellent work to all!
13-02-2008, 06:46 PM
I always vote with the theme in mind. My dragon has no theme. But with the work I did put into it I do want to finish what I can.
And your dragon is the best dragon of all, really. Unfortunately, it's not a stylised dragon, that's why I didn't vote on him. But, believe me, your job is one of my favorites. Thanks for undertanding my vote.
As stroggtank says, it's hard to pick just three. By the way, we're miss your job, stroggtank, I hope you find some time to finish it and put on the gallery.
And, speaking about time, forum members, this Challenge is an excellent excercise for our professional skills, because it has deadlines! Or your clients don't mind if you take an eternity to create a character for them? Huh? Huh? Huh?;P;P;P
Think about it...:haha:
13-02-2008, 11:14 PM
Alrighty then. Once again, Great job everyone. :)
 it's peanut butter and jelly time:dance:
14-02-2008, 05:05 AM
Noviski is right. besides, we might be forgetting the real idea of this competition. it's not just about winning... it's about the challenge and progress as we come along with our final image. We might get hurt sometime but the fact is without true critic, there's no real progress. I, myself realized an error in my "dragon" work (which took only 6.5 minutes to render in mental ray)upon my submission(admitting the fact that it would't score)that's why i tried to adapt a more comical aspect to the challenge in the start of the "Bull in china competition".I think We owe each other a lot of thanks. Good luck to all and hope to see everyone in the competitions that will come.
14-02-2008, 12:40 PM
1.Cmarcus- I like the atmosphere of the picture, it has an eerie, supernatural feeling
2.Noviski - nice modeling, the movement looks quite natural, the composition could be a little bit better. I`m not talking about fancy 24 hours renders but a better arragement of the pieces
3.Stiderotte- same feeling as Cmarcus` work but I don`t like the dragon, it may be the Chinese thing, I`m not a big fan of those
I also liked mies` cute little dragon but it`s a bit too simplistic for my taste.
Thanks to everyone who voted for my work!
14-02-2008, 12:54 PM
