DUE DATE: February 10th: a Sunday,11:59 pm GMT - SUNDAY
Final Pictures:
Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry):
- 1 x Winning pose shot. This image can only have "One" pose of your weapon. No multiple shots or different angles. Just one!
- 1 x Beauty shot of your weapon. Feel free to put multiple angles of your weapon or just one big version or your weapon on this page. Even better, try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the Winners' Gallery. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you.
- 1 x wireframe shot of your weapon. Feel free to put multiple wireframe shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you. Must have polycount included.
- 1 x texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet.
- Concept Sheet (Only if you have a concept)
You must provide a screen grab of your wire frame with your poly count, with the actual model and all its parts selected. Please don’t Photoshop your Poly counter with a bogus count. Make sure you post all work in progress, including final poly counts and wire frames in the work in progress thread.

If you are wondering....the sword and first aid kit textures i got offline doing a yahoo picture search. Everything else was made by me manipulating Lightwave's presets and using photochop CS.
The Story:
Narrator:
The owner of the weapons being displayed on the table always carries a picture of his father for good luck every time he does a tournament. Even though he had won this years tournament not only did he take home the "Rifleman Tournament" trophy, but he also found this unique sword sticking out of the ground under a tree while he was hunting in this years contest. (Upon taking the sword and bring it back with him so he can take a photo of his prize possessions) a week later he went to take the sword to and antique shop to get a background check on its origin. It turns out that the sword he found was once in the hands of an ancient emperor who has used it to rule during the feudal times of china. The engravings (markings) on the blade of the sword is an ancient spell that a wizard made for the emperor to make the sword unbreakable. For years many warriors have been trying to take the sword from the emperor but all failed. It was said that when the emperor died he had buried it with him in his coffin but when Archaeologists found his coffin......only he was in it, not the sword. Through lots and lots of research, Archaeologists found out that the story of the emperor and his sword had been changed later on down the line and no one really knew where he had actually hidden it. Some believed that it was hidden in mount everest, others believed it was hidden inside the walls of the great wall of china. Some even believed that the sword was inside the emperor's left leg, hidden from the eyes view.
Inside the antique shop..................
Owner of the sword: Thanks for the history lesson Doc...........but i only wanted to know how much the sword was worth so i can make some extra money. Times are hard these days when you got oil and tax prices on everything going sky high.
Owner of the antique shop: hehehe....Yes indeed......This sword is worth a fortune but i recommend that you do not sell it. This sword is wanted by every man and woman who has ever heard about the story of the emperor and his sword. Just be careful on who you show this sword to.
Owner of the sword: Yeah...well maybe i should be careful about you. Considering that i am showing you this sword for the first time. Speaking of which....you said this sword is worth a fortune......exactly (in numbers) how much is it worth.
Owner of the antique shop: Well over 3 billion dollars but trust me my boy........this sword is priceless and at the same time dangerous to those who has it.
This is what i have so far on this story. In case you are wondering about the sword's power........truth is the sword doesn't have any powers. It does not shoot fireballs, electricity or anything like that. The only thing that makes this sword special is it just does not break.....not matter what you do to it. you can throw this sword in lava and when you take it back out it will not have a dent, be melted or have a scratch on it. The sword truly is unbreakable. And as far as powers......it is only as powerfully as the person who is using it.

Hello guy's, found this to be a very interesting comp as I am currently designing characters to go onto my showreel. But they look kinda plain without weopons and stuff. This seems to be the perfect opportunity to test out my skills and get some feed back. Hope you like.

...and here's mine. H&K USP. A note on the wireframe, those numbers are from one weapon and one bullet. Wasn't sure whether it counts towards the total, but i'm well under regardless so why not.

Cool alien like gun
Model (0-10): 7
I like the model, But I had troubles finding out what was the front :P. Nice usage of a normal map. Gives it that alien like feel
Textures (0-10): 4
I don't know. The textures wont cut if for me. For the type of alien weapon you did a nice job on the normal map. But I dont like the colors at all. It looks alright in the viewport but not in the renders themself. Maybe its the lightning :P I dunno hehe
The rest: Also very nice.

Wonderful concept, the retro feel and mixes with karaoke is down right hilarious, the comic book feel to it is well done however the "Copper plating" could have used a bit more work as well the base seemed too busy.

Love the gunblades, nice to see one put together as well as this one was. The only real problem I had was that the whole of the gun was all the same, there didn't seem to be any real difference in each piece (as shown in the last image). A little work on making the bits stand out would go a long way here, as it is it seems "Full tang" instead of 4 pieces machined together.

-Love the crazy concept you did, well executed and I especially loved
the presentation, comic book style with pages. You still didn't told us
what the "SHOW NO MERCY" button does
Model (0-10) 8
-Great modeling, really hard choice because of all those round shapes,
the main weapon is amazing, only the main panel (where you recharge
the gun) shows that maybe you ran out of tris ;)
Textures (0-10) 8
-The textures work really well with the type/concept of your weapon,
nice colors, cartoonish/comic look mixed with real textures gave a good
overall look to the weapon. Hard to unwrap when many objects have to
fit in the 1024 uv sheet ;)

-Well it's a gun :smug: Simple but well executed.
Model (0-10) 10
-Great model, I like the fact that it can be fully animated, looks really
smooth and ready for shooting ;) To be really neat picky there is a little
smoothing default on the grip, we can see a sharp line on the side views
where the light is really high on it.
Textures (0-10) 8
-Great use of normal map, maybe looking at your reference picture a more
bumpy grip on the handle would looked closer.

Concept (0-10) 9
-I loved the concept really funny, I just can't wait to see the canon
shooting the toucan in a big cloud of powder smoke haha!
Model (0-10) 8
-Nicely done, the shapes looks good ;) Nice touch with the pilot glasses
on the toucan.
Textures (0-10) 6
-The Toucan texture looks good, I believe the rest could have been
better, especially the wood pieces. I think it doesn't looks like the rest,
it's too realistic maybe and doesn't really fit in the "cartoonish" look of
the rest of the pic.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was tough to decide, I really liked Anima3d and Wassum too, not to justify
myself but imho the models was looking really great, it needed just a better
texturing to be in the top 3 (or a more original concept).
You all did a great job in this mini challenge ;)

I like the concept, as it was on of the only entries that was orignal. It is also well realized. It's as if you really did launch a chiwawa to make sure the gun works. It would have been nice to see the chiwawa made sickenly cute though;)

Like the way you used everypoly and from what I can see, to good effect. What's the point of being given a limit and not using it?

how are scores calculated for the winners? does 1st 2nd or 3rd carry any extra weight or is it based entirely on the /10 scores people receive?
newhere's voting is whats confusing me (and the fact i've never followed a comp on threedy before). he's given 1st place a 0, 9 and a 5...yet given 3rd a perfect 10/10

Chung Wongs model was very good, not very exciting though and the textures were a little flat. My textures looked flat as well, do to the normal map which takes a lot of life out of your diffuse.
Deathcab your model was also very good, but also suffered from it being just a gun. you had some of the problem i did with the mesh not being optimal, though it shouldn't matter with a limit of 4000 tris.
Firehazurd your concept was great, but i wanted to see something more intricate.
nice work everyone.

If people are voting in such a way as to game the system in hopes they win then I think that sort of cheapens this friendly competition. I could have voted for myself with all 10's and not voted for MrT's in hopes that it would bump me up to first place for example. If people are voting that way then we should probably just send BigToe our votes privately or have a 3rd party pick the winner. We're all here to learn and hopefully have some fun.
Besides, our real focus should be decimating the other teams in the upcoming war.

Couldn't agree more with Ianchaos, the real deal here is to learn and have
fun while practicing, not to get points for the first place. The point of these
mini challenges is to learn and getting a richer portfolio and sharing techniques ;)
I think getting involved in these challenges is the best way to get stronger
and faster in the lowpoly category, thus the feedback people takes time to
write is the best way to have a good outside opinion of our own work.
Enough talking, let's get ready for war :haha:

Yeah i voted for myself, I voted what i felt was honest. It would've been "poor taste" to vote myself all 10s, but i didn't. It would've been "poor taste" to give scores for concepts that weren't created by the person who used it, and I didn't.

i guess by the next low poly challenge there will be one more rule about voting... lol
and i agree it does cheapen the competition and it could grow out of control in we dont watch out. To be honest, there were plenty of excellent models left with and without concepts, if you didnt think the ones with concepts were good enough, then it would've been easy to give a model without a concept just a zero for that category.

your not allowed to vote for yourself. It used to be stated, but after awhile everyone just knew voting for themselves was wrong.

as a warhammer fan, and having tried to model tyranid stuff myself, I knew you would be in for a hard time with this model, and you've really pulled it off! superbly sculpted and modelled, I think slightly let down by texturing, but overall really great work!
