(please excuse my bad grammar) :haha:

Lord Darreous is one of the few Warlords left on our planet. Once a man of honor, a man of simplicity; a former king whose world spiraled into darkness and chaos in the Great War. After witnessing the death of his wife and child, he vowed vengeance upon all who stands against him. His hatred; fueled by so much rage and anger, that even death could not stop him.

Mortally wounded on the battlefield, he slipped into darkness, only to be awakened by a voice; a deep dark voice. A voice filled with hatred and malice.

“Darreous, I will give you what you seek. You will have your vengeance and the power to destroy all who opposes you. All I need from you is a small gift; your service, your allegiance, your soul. Once your task is completed, you belong to me.”

Without hesitation, Darreous accepted the proposition and in an instant he was sent back onto the battlefield. With his new found power, he obliterated his enemies. No one can stop him now, until his thirst for revenge is quenched and the deal he struck was satisfied.

Now, Lord Darreous is gazing into the sky, waiting for the inevitable storm that’s coming back to his planet. Soon he will get his chance. Soon he will have his revenge. Soon, the final battle and the biggest war of its time will fall upon his doorstep. With a smile on his face, Lord Darreous awaits his destiny.

I wanted to make his proportions a bit off so he would look a bit more powerful than a normal human.

Allright, good work on the backstory, but what is his artifact/weapon and what is it based on? :)

Allright, good work on the backstory, but what is his artifact/weapon and what is it based on? :)

A very good question! My thoughts was a huge battle ax with an embedded red stone of power. Fire/lava will be the effect of the stone. The ax will be of stone and iron glowing with power. His right hand and arm that holds the ax will be partially turned into stone with cracks of glowing hot molten lava within. A by-product of wielding the powerful ax.

awsome start :). i realy like your idea. and an axe would be the perfect weapon for it :). keep up the good work .

Ax seemed a bit boring so I went with a mace. i want to make sure that his weapon looks like it really hurts...allot!

make the handle longer. Way too short as is, you would need to be standing less then arms lenght away from your enemy to hit them with that. If your that close they may have already hit you with what ever it is they are using.

Thanks BigToe, I totally didn't think about that! I'll make the proper adjustments.

Looking good. Another option would be swinging the weapon with a chain and letting it bash your enemies that way

redonix76
19-02-2008, 09:46 PM
thats an interesting thought. I'll see if I can work something out. maybe I can make it detachable so that it can be swing around. Thanks for the input guys!

on the other hand, i kind of like the weapon having a huge head and a smaller handle--your guy is pretty huge so I could imagine him grappling and bashing--with the weapon's head so close to the fist, he would wield it more with his own body's strength rather than relying on swinging ---

but the swinging is a cool idea too! just giving another viewpoint

that is one of the coolest weapon design I've seen. I"m looking forward to seeing your progress

Hey guys thanks for the input. I've tried to come up with a detached top with chains but it's not going to work out.

I'm definitely going to make the handle longer and give the overall structure a more solid build. I'm also working on a longer weapon like a spear since he will be riding some sort of animal. A Warlord wouldn't be complete without his mount!!

So this is the direction I'm heading into. I know taht the proportions are a bit weired, but I'll work it out when I start modeling...it's easier for me that way. I'll update the legs hopefully tonight.

Perhaps play with making the legs have a different shape or thickness than the arms? I like where you're going with lots of curvy shapes and horns (although I'd almost remove the pointy horn on his helmet so it doesn't take away from the shoudler pads)

redonix76
25-02-2008, 11:26 PM
Thanks Stephan, I had a weired feeling about that horn. Maybe i can get away with small spikes all over the top of the helmet instead.

Very cool looking weapon, also like the drawings you're coming up with. Agree with veigus... Updates please!!!

The weapon and character really matches....As a character is created, selecting a suitable weapon for the character is a challenge itself. I think you passed that test...Keep up the work, and focus on more accesories of on your character.:smug:

Long time no updates!! Well I was pretty upset when my Zbrush file got corrupted the other day...but it's ok, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

This face/head updated is not quite as good as the one I've lost, but it'll have to do for now. Hope you guys like the direction I'm heading into.

Cool looking design. I like the proportions. I think one thing you could maybe change, is the two shoulder pads. I really like the large one with the horn coming out, and I like the idea of having a smaller on the other side...but I don't like that one has a concave shape and one has a convex shape. Maybe giving your smaller shoulder pad a concave shape will give it a bit more balance in the design....Just a thought though, might not work out any better.

Thats interesting...now that you mentioned it, it sticks out like a sore thumb! I'll change that smaller shoulder pad for better continuity. Thanks Puckducker!!

Wow, you work fast. i love the concept and design. That face is turning out great. This is gonna turn out to be one scary character!

Right now he's about 8k tris. I'll optimize him later. I'm still working on his fancy belt buckle and probably giving him some more asymmetrical look. his lower body looks awfully symmetrical and boring. Hopefully I'll have room and time to make a horse...hopefully.

 Great progress! Looks like someone's been slackin off at their real job, haha! :) I like what you did with the hip pads and boots. Maybe you can have them look assymetrical in the texture or have one of the knees messed up from battle. Otherwise I think it looks awesome. This model is gonna kick ass. Good luck trying to fit in that mount!

redonix76
19-03-2008, 05:04 PM
Thanks shoots! I'm very doubtful if I'll have enough polys to put in an armored horse...I wish though I really do. I'll have to see how much I can optimize the model.

My approach to this model is to not rely too much on normal maps so the details will stand out better after the texturing process. I like to give it a balance of poly to normal map details.

I noticed that you changed the face area of the helm. It looks nice, but not as great or epic as the concept drawing you had, with the rows of spikes on the chin. If its one thing i notice is that the shape of the face area on your current helmet model seems pretty generic, not to mention that the cheek detailing is covered by it. Just my advice, dont have to take it. It looks great so far though. :)

redonix76
19-03-2008, 07:22 PM
Crasong, I appreciate your advice and I do agree. I wanted to save some polys, but I guess I'm being too cheap in that area.

The face and helmet area is more important than the rest, so I will stick with the concept and put in those scary looking spikes.

Thanks for clearing my head!

Ok so he's pretty ready for the Zbrush pass. Hopefully I can get my Zbrushing all done with this weekend so I can start the texturing process. I'm excited to add details to the armor such as wear and tear, etching designs and motifs. I'm looking to give his armor a sense of history and of importance.

awesome bulky armour! really looking forward to seeing this after the zbrush treatment :D

So I scrapped the old face and decided to do a more skeletal-ish style. I think it shows much better through the helmet. Here's an update of the Zbrush touch ups. I'm looking to give him more details through the texturing process and not rely too heavily on Zbrush for details. I find this pipeline to work well for the timing given.
