So i have got an idea what want to make, It will be a dark priest who will look like the priests in churches today, with this black suit and white thing at the neck, I will give him some pale-blueish skin with white eyes, he won't have a hand but a big sawlike knife there hehe and the other hand he will keep the pyramid threedy logo as the arftifact where thunder comes out of. Is this allowed?
*Edit* Could someone please change my thread name into Dark Priest? Thanks
*Edit* I've got some sketches/scribbles but my scanner is broken that's why you have to wait :(
Name: Reverend Death
Race: demonic zombie
18-02-2008, 01:20 PM
Did a quick sketch in PS with my Wacom and ehm hehe I'm too noobish and i think i have to learn to draw on the computer, this is the one arm how it should look like and the face.
I think that I will show you guys at wednesday some drawings on paper because they are better :D
18-02-2008, 01:50 PM
but whats that other thing? a sword/arm/leg?
18-02-2008, 02:20 PM
This is his arm, instead of a hand he has got a sword connected to his arm.
Ehm is it ok when he has his sword arm and in the other hand he has his artifact with the lightning magic thing?
18-02-2008, 06:09 PM
Started to model the head, and am looking what fits his face the best because i think that i make his mouth open ready to scream or something like that :D
18-02-2008, 11:18 PM
I have to make him meaner hopefully he will come out as i wish him to be, with some nice pale blue zombie skin...
ehm i wanted to give him a necklace with an upside down cross i hope this is ok if not then
i will give him the pyramid threedy logo to the necklace.
Nobody answered my question so i want to make him one sword blade arm and the other hand is normal
but he can shoot lightnings, is this allowed?
18-02-2008, 11:53 PM
good start but you can save poly's by not modeling thw whole ear and instead use a normal map or somthing
unless you don't know how to make one than this will do :)
19-02-2008, 08:33 PM
Ok thanks NeoGeo I think you're right and i will try to make it with some normal maps if I can manage it :D
Ok I got a name for my Priest hehehe he is the man he is "Reverend Death" and i remake this with the swordlike arm because this doesn't fits him I thought I will give him a priest staff, sorry don't know how the staffs are called in the church and from the top piece will come out lightnings ;)
Have got some sketches which I can show you tomorrow because of my broken scanner :(
Man Big-Toe i send you a PM if you can change my thread name with Reverend Death for my models name? but you didn't answer me :(
21-02-2008, 10:52 PM
Sorry that I've got no updates because I have ordered my new scanner so you can see all my concepts the next time ;)
22-02-2008, 01:40 PM
I never got the PM, but your thread name is changed now.
22-02-2008, 01:59 PM
Thanks Big-ToE ;) oh I PMed Tom maybe he is away.

I hear your having trouble with normal maps in Zbrush.
You need to use a program called zmapper, its a plug-in for zbrush, and if you have the newest version of zbrush, you might be in trouble, I hear they don't have a zmapper for that yet. But I don't use zbrush so I don't know.
22-02-2008, 03:58 PM
bigtoe zmapper is included in the 3.1 update.
22-02-2008, 04:15 PM
good to know.
23-02-2008, 08:05 AM
Pixologic has a video tutorial on thier website on how to use z-mapper.
24-02-2008, 10:13 AM
Thank you guys ;) I got a nice tutorial from the evermotion site for normal maps.
24-02-2008, 10:33 PM
Hadn't that much time the last days... Hmm I can't find that Zmapper tutorial, maybe I'm blind.

You ask for help? Right. First and foremost ive never modeled a game character so i cant help you with that aspect however i do like to rant and ramble about peoples ideas.
Time to rip into your concept like my uncle with a cheap hooker.
Right... dark priest.. not very original but then neither was doom 3 and look how bad ass that was.
Um... just wondering if you used any references or if you just drew from the mind? Um... imo, for the head, you could draw inspiration from harry potheads lord voldemort
Lord Voldemort is very evil looking. Right now your guy looks like beavis and butthead. Not very scary and taken more as a joke.
Ditch the nose. Straighten that brow, looks like hes a botox victim. He also lacks a jaw (going by the 3d images), hes got a chin, but no jaw. Just take a hard look at lord voldemort and draw ideas from it.
Clothing? Whats he wearing? A priest coat with the frilly dilly priest scarf? (no idea what theyre called). Follows the theme yes... but really its rather boring imo. Its got nothing... but then ive got nothing in mind to improve it.
For your weapons?
Is that the holy hand grenade i see? stuck onto a ugly stick...
(heres a idea for the audience out there, brick from anchorman + holy hand grenade. :D)
I dunno. Whats this guys motive? Whats he doing? Why is he evil?
Another thing is i see youve drawn a cross around his neck. Why? Hes a dark priest? Shouldnt you be looking at the Pentagram? Signs of the devil, the dark arts?
Heres a idea for ya. Straight off the top of my head in 5 mins.
Priest with your typical priest clothes. Chest being burst open, demon popping out with two sickles. Threedy logo on priests chest (where demon bursts out) as well as markings (and logo) on his frilly dilly scarf. Get some mean textures and zbrushing on the demon (just have it as a skinless skelly/person). All fleshy and veiny. His element is water/ice, why? whats the body mostly made up off? 2/3 is water. Have him suck the blood out of his victims. Dont be cliched by going with darkness or holy. However i think you were going with lightning? Good for you. :D
Basically, what im trying to say is. Your idea is boring. Take your priest idea and just throw a twist on it. Make it new to peoples eyes. Dont think your 3d skills will pull off the idea. You need to think about the design more. Be creative and original.
Btw, your model needs a clean up. You can probably remove alot of the polys on the forhead as there doesnt appear to be much details there. But i have no idea how you go about modeling a game character...so... whateva.
Sorry if i wasnt helpful. Just trying to get you to think more about your design.

Wow, Thank you very much!
1. No, i didn't use any references, drew out of mind.
2. Hehe Botox ok will remake the jaw.
3. He will wear a priest coat with leather pants, jacket and boots underneath it that you can see it. Something like the lead singer from cradle of filth wears.
4. Oh didn't want to make it as a "holy grenade"
5. I have asked what if I would make an upside down cross but nobody answered.
6. Nice Idea, really like it
Yeah I will clean up when the time has come :D
Thanks for your straight words ;) this will really help me.

come on dude, i want to see some updates!
i want to see NEW updated model sheets, front and right + 3/4 view. also maybe a few silhouette drawing,. color schemes and image references.
got a backstory?
be good to have one, can help shape the character.
what race is he? she? how did they become a priest, why are they wearing priest clothing? whats his killing motive? how did he become dark? why does he use that type of magic? how can he or she win the war? what makes them different, that extra bit special?
also with modeling, personal preference of mine, but try have the sizes of the quads flow, if that makes sense. however ive never modeled a low poly man before. you also REALLY want to get those model sheets done, i know, its horrible working with images that dont work or are non-existant but you need something to go by. it shows in the final model, honest. lol.
i want to see you win! or at least get somewhere in the competition. lol.

Hey, you have quite a good mentor there. Treat the mean, keep them keen Lol. I totally agree with what he is saying to you. Best thing to do though, take some time and draw out your concept better. I helps loads, as when you start modeling without it, if you make any changes, you'll end up wasting you time remodeling it... Mind you, I'm kinda doing the same thing... cough cough.. Tip on drawing though, try doing a few thumbs to sort out your propotions and get a few basic designs in then build on them. Good Luck

Sorry guys for no updates but i got some problems here :(
But I will work faster and the updates will come for sure ;)
And a big Thank you!
*Edit* Yeah, have to draw some thumbs... :D
