Dear Aunty Madrigale,

Thank you for your kind letter. My excursions into the wastes have been going as well as can be expected. And no, as yet there seems no end in sight to the recurrence of these bothersome metal beasties. You'll be pleased to know that the mirror you gave me on the day of my wedding to my poor late darling, Elouise (May she rest in peace -- until next weekend when I shall resurrect her), has proven particularly useful. I am unsure whether or not I mentioned it to you before, but I have found that it allows me to raise an endless army of my dead ancestors. A funny little trinket, really. Quite charming.

Ah, but, that brings me to the point of my writing to you, dear aunt. I hope you don't mind, but I was compelled to raise the spirit of you dear father recently, for you know he was a brute of a man, and I have found him instrumental in keeping my little legs safe from the jaws of the metal beasties.
You once said that he had a temper on him. My my, you were not wrong. Only the other day, as we went in search of new artefacts, we traversed one of the 9 wormholes, and arrived in a planet, predominantly green and with little chance of winning this war, when what should happen? We were attacked by a group of unimaginative brutes. Can you imagine? Well, one was even so rude as to point at my bosom, and then made references to dairy farming! Great Uncle Zeke was furious! Before I knew it, I was being whisked this way and that through a sea of entrails. I am certainly glad I wore one of my red gowns that day! Oh-ho!

Anyway, lovely to hear from you. Duty calls, and all that guff.

Call it a pre-emptive strike. A lot to do still, but you can see the areas that have been worked up to better quality. I'll try and get more done tonite and post an update...

She uses summoning magic so she's riding the ghost of her dead great-uncle (A giant of a man don'tcha know? He's a legend among the Van Browden clan.) As such it stops the wee metal beasties touching her -- Not to mention she can travel fast over pretty much any kind of terrain. There's a saddle under that dress, but actually the dress part is fake, there's a harness under there with a seat built in. She can hop out and run around by herself when ever she wants to.

I totally agree with you about that. And it's funny because I already scaled the guy down because I/wife thought he looked too big compared to her. But I guess maybe the overblown proportions could work here.

Rych - 9000 Polys is a vast number. I guarantee I could do this in 7000 if need-be. Of course and extra 2000 helps me seal the deal. People so often underestimate how powerful normal mapping is. It ain't like the old days. It's the masses of detail that frighten me. Still, no guts no glory. Thanks for dropping by old friend.

So anyways, I've taken your feedback on board and beefed up the Great-Dead-Uncle Browden. Added drop shadow, so you can see that they are actually floating. Also updated the dress shape, to make her feel less top-heavy and more stream-lined. Legs need to come up, and I need to add boots, as well as some foot platforms and I also need to point those feet up. However, I reckon I'm happy with the profile, so it's time to get down to the nitty-gritty (what a phrase), any last crits had better come now. :)

i really love the facial hair on the ghost and the girls hair is very imaginitive. everything is fitting together quite nicely and the color scheme of the blueish dead ghost and the vibrant reds work really well at making this pop right off the page. im curious to see what 1800s style clothing youll use for the ghost. insanely great work!

Sorry that I haven't managed to reply in a while I've been really busy both with this, and with work, not to mention the young sprog. That said, I appreciate all the comments and do read everything you all say, and where appropriate take it on board and act accordingly. Was really pleased to see Mr Kite pop in. I'm a big fan of your work Kite. Do pop in again.

So what's new? Well, throne's done. Carapace is done. All sorts of odds and sods behind the scenes too. Should be able to nail this sucker down this week and get modelling. If not I've got next week off, so I can definitely hit it hard.

Segreto & Star_Scream & Mr T & Que - Glad you like the side saddle look. I think was a necessary, and probably the most important, change. Originally, she was going to be a stilt walker, but I wasn't happy with this design, hence the ghost. It took a while for me to realise that covering him too much with her dress was gonna look a bit crappy, an the side-saddle look gives her a sexier attitude and a more confident, relaxed and capable air overall.

Rych - I'm glad you like the throne aspect of her. I was tooing and froing over whether to go with the fluffy look, but I think it's ok, and suits her. As long as his costume has a decent contrast to show where he begins and she ends, I think it will be ok.

MaggieQue - I thnk I agree with your first point about the colours for the ghost. The 2nd comment maybe seems a little too subjective for me. However, You may get your wish. I'll leave the colour balancing until the end I think.

Mr Kite - Thanks for stopping by! Let's be rivals! :dance:. So I agree with what you're saying about the need for a link, and I think I'll have to figure that out once the main composite is done. I suspect this will be the part where the serendipity aspect comes into play. Just by trying a bunch of stuff I should be able to home in on something I like.

I'm confident I can do the same here. And the budget her is massive by the way. With double faces, it's effectively an 18,000 tri budget. Lovely.

Heya all. Well, it's been a surprisingly unproductive week for me this week, but that's because I stopped smoking. It's a shame. I killed a lot of people. But now, I'm starting to feel like myself again, and hopefully I can get my teeth stuck into this again. It's not been all bad mind you. I've managed a first pass on the Low Poly (see bottom right corner of attachment), and still have 1.5k+ polys left to invest there. I've also gotten the concept image to about as far as I need it to be in order to finish this model. I'll try to come back to it as I proceed once I start trying to figure out clothing designs... In the meantime, I have a lot to get done in a month, so I'd best get on...

Monte, what will be your workflow from now? well, at least from my point of view, it is a lot more robust one to model a proper base and sculpt it from there, since usually tri-sided polygons and poly-saving topologies might create bugs on sculping programs. And just then create a final lowpoly model. Perhaps I'm assuming wrong you are going to sculpt it haha

Vitor - You are right, I will be doing some sculpting, but not everywhere. I think a sculpt will be detrimental to a lot of the less organic areas, whereas all the soft body stuff will likely need the help. As such, I'll be building element by element and compositing later. From there I'll work on Diff and Spec mapping.

Anyhoo... I'm going to call this stage "the boring stage". This is when I do all the ground work, setting up the LOD0 mesh, unwrapping, optimising, setting up again, optimising, adding details, optimising, fixing unwrapping, adding more details, optimising, fixing unwrapping, and so on... however, with any luck that should all be done in the next day or two, and then I can get on with the business of making this fekka look good. For now, I still have some bits and pieces to unwrap, not to mention I have to add: A falcon, a rifle, some sleeve bits, and an artefact... ooooh. Hopefully after optimisation we should be sweet. This will go over budget for a while, but once the normals have been created, I can look to carve some of the quads into tris etc... :D

one small tweak I'd suggest is to take the purple from her boots and use it on the visible area of her collar/off the shouldery thing

Hey dudes. Thank you so much for all you kind words. There are a lot of things that I wish I could have done better in this project, but I'm just glad to have got through it and finished in time. That's really out of character for me to do. :) Guess we'll wait and see how it does, although my hopes aren't really that high. :)

Ok, next task. I'm gonna start working on my interpretation of Lara Croft I think. I still haven't seen anyone nail her properly, and no matter how you interpret that statement, that has to be a bad thing.

It's not only the quality but also that extra amount of work you had to do for the double character wich makes it a great piece.
