I decided to change up the armor a little bit. his body is the same since its already basically modeled. He is a fire/ lava Warlord. He comes from the depths of hell as a demonic soul leech that uses his weapon to burn through the enemy armor to rip out their soul and give it to his own army for health. I am still working on the weapon and I will adjust a few things in 3d but let me know what you think.

great concept :D looks mean, and sounds mean from your desciption. really like the shoulder pad designs

damn, this is a quick concept? wish i could leech some of your 2d skills :D
looks great. i really like the head. cool armor design. i like the finger grabbing his ribs.

thanks dude. good ol' photoshop. I wish I had better 2d skills. but it gets me by for making some good 3d models

here is another concept for a warlord I'm throwing around.

i like second one, mabye with chest and sholder armor of first one

thanks fenixy. I will mess around with that and see what I can come up with

I messed around with the armor a little bit. I'm trying to figure out which one to use. any suggestions?

The left one and the in the middle look great ;) reminds me a little bit of my necromancer in Guild Wars.

i like the first of the three. the only thing i would change is the skulls on the knees. they dont match the rest of the armor. you should darken them up a bit i think.

Personally, I like the third on the best.

I like the skin tone of the 1st two, but love the large claws and feet, as well as the head shape of the third guy.

The left armor looks more powerful but I like the head of the right one better.

19-02-2008, 05:07 AM
I like the third one the best. Armor and body fits well together. Although I think you should put in some bigger spikes here and there to break up the spiky pattern a bit. More exaggeration will really bring out the overall design and give him more character.
Incredibo
19-02-2008, 06:15 AM
I threw in a few different head styles that I might go with. I'm trying to have this character have the same presence as the predator but with a more demonic feel to it and not so technilogically futuristic.
Incredibo
19-02-2008, 04:18 PM
here is a concept of a giant demon. I'm just trying to find which one i want to use and what i need to adjust. any comments / critques are welcome> so far im leaning towards my first concept
Tank[NL]
19-02-2008, 04:25 PM
yeah! wristblades ftw :D
really cool concept. needs armor in the chest tho. and he looks more like a real brawler. you know, just charge in on the front lines and rip everything to piece. you really should keep the head, looks kick-ass. and the wristblades... :)

starting to block out the character. I'm going to go with my original concept
Incredibo
20-02-2008, 01:26 AM
I have him blocked out at about 2000 tiangles so far so it's good to know we have 9000 to play with for some sweet detailed models and armor. I will be taking him into zbrush in a day or two. is there anything I need to work on? I could use some critisism
Segreto
20-02-2008, 02:39 AM
I really like the third one the most. His skin color and the shape of his head stand out the most.

20-02-2008, 02:45 AM
I really like the way the legs/feet are turning out. I was a little skeptical in the original sketch but now i see how its going... more demonic, remind me of satyr feet.
my only crit would be that i love the demonism of the feet and head, but the torso/hands might be too exactly human? you could try pushing the proportions a bit, but then again your concept shows that the armor might make it come together anyways.
Incredibo
20-02-2008, 03:01 AM
thanks a lot for the crits. I will go and try that out and see what I can come up with

I liked your giant demon concept too

21-02-2008, 02:04 AM
Nice work ! as i saw your picture where you blended your drawing with your 3d modell i thought the stuff just right under his chest kinda looked like hands and i thought that could look kinda cool like 2 pair of demon hands holding his chest up if you get what i mean anyhow great character and damn qucik too ^^ it will be great in the end i think!
Incredibo
21-02-2008, 09:14 AM
thanks for the comment jojo. I plan on making his armor very organic. almost as if it was created in the depths of hell and not by some man made material. kinda like how in lord of the rings sauron created the ring out of the firey mountain. which basically made it indestructable. wow that sounded really nerdy.
Incredibo
21-02-2008, 10:16 PM
I'm thinking of having his weapon be a weapon attatched to his forearm that is in the shape of a insect with a demon head grasping on to his arm. Out of the mouth will be a spear which in turn will be the tongue. the spear will be used as a melee blade for close combat the weapon will shoot out into the enemy much like a harpoon. the spear/ tongue is attached to the forarm by a firery lava cord. this is how the character rips out the souls of his enemy.
my other thought would basically be a double sided reaper.
any thoughts?
I will be coming up with the concept drawings later tonight. if you have any input on the it. hook me up
thanks

here is the new armor design. I want to keep it all very organic and evil looking. it needed to be a little bit more bulky from my last concept. I still need to decide which side of the shoulder pads I want for the final. his weapon on his forarm is the basic design but I want to push it a little further

i like the left one. looking really good. reminds me of Oblivion.

26-02-2008, 06:41 AM
I'm blocking out his armor. It's close to what I want but I'm not totally sold on it. It will help when I take the armor into zbrush so it will feel a lot more organic. I also need to add quite a bit of detail on his body.
Incredibo
26-02-2008, 09:18 PM
I changed the armor up a little bit. I'm still working on his weapon/artifact. A little back story of the tormentor will be coming soon

great anatomy and muscle work! armour is looking cool too. would like to see the chains and other details in there from your earlier concepts too :D
hey thanks L3XICON. I like that advice. I want to be able to put in some type of detail like chains.
I started going against chains because I dont know how good it will look when I start modeling it. the only thing I could think of for modeling it would be planes with a transparency map. any ideas for low res chains?
I'm at about 6500 polys right now and I want to be able to add more detail to the low res model after the high res is complete.

I updated his armor a little bit. and gave his legs a little bit more detail. I still don't quite know where I should put the 3dtotal logo. the updated picture is at the begining of this thread

I've been doing a few 3d concepts for the artifact/weapon. Right now the idea is that the weapon is a demonic soul leech from the depths of hell that is attatched to the arm and when the tormentor wields it he has the power to rip out the soul of the enemy which gives him more power. I'm trying to decide which one I should go with or if i need to go another route

I added a few more armor pieces that I thought were needed. Im still working on what I want to do for a weapon

Looking pretty awesome. The only conceptual thing that popped into mind is that machines may not have souls, so hopefully the weapon will still be efective against them.

I'm adding a little bit more detail to how his armor is actually attached to his skin. A few of his armor pieces are missing in this picture.

I worked on his armor a little bit in zbrush. Most of the pieces are not in the correct place. so I will fix that in the low poly version. I'm almost finished with modeling. Now I hope this normal mapping works well.

thanks guys. I'm about halfway through the normal mapping now. Im also messing around with the pedestal and what I'm going to do for the beauty shoty.
grindill: You can't go wrong with a demon wearing spikes right?
kicksachi: I was thinking about putting some more armor on him but I don't know where I should put it. ankles maybe?

I finally generated the normal map and occlusion map. So here is what he looks like with those maps on. he doesn't have a detailed color map yet. just thrown on some materials for the contrast between flesh and armor.
here is a lighting test. I'm trying to see what kind of mood I want the final shot to be in.
I havn't decided if I want to go with one set of shoulder pads or two. the more I work with it I think I like one set better for asymetry and to show some shoulder definition. also the arm without the armor would be the arm he swings his weapon with and that would be a little more battle friendly.
Incredibo
29-03-2008, 05:09 PM
I started painting some details into the skin. I haven't painted anything on the armor yet. it is just overlayed occlusion maps. It still has a lot of work but is progressing well.
The armor will have glowing lava inside some of the holes of the armor. I had this idae for that a while ago but I see parkin already posted his painted character and he is doing the same thing so I hope no one is thinking I'm copying.
But I'm sure with the topic we were given a lot of people had that same idea as I've seen on other forums.
oh well I think its a good idea. and we will see a lot of sweet characters. that would be awesome if someone could gather all these characters and make a game out of it.
It would dominate all other games.
Incredibo
31-03-2008, 01:35 AM
I added a little bit more detail. And I have been playing around a little with the glow color. the original idea was a fire, lava but I just wanted to mix it up a lttle bit and see what happend.
I still have a lot of detail work to go. and a few of the armor pieces have not had the uvs layed out. lucky for me I actually still have some space on my map for some more pieces.

Nice, I'd say stick with the blue/ice look. Fire is by far going to be most used alignment, so doing something other than fire/red will help your entry stand out....at least, that's what I'm planning on doing.
Incredibo
31-03-2008, 04:35 PM
thanks puckducker. I might go with that one.
here is a couple more color tests. as of right now I am still liking the look of the red one the most. but it is probablly because the other colors are too bright and need to be toned down a bit.
after work today I plan on finishing the detail work on the foot armor and weapon. adding some dust and scratches to the armor and trying to achieve the final look.

Stay with the Blue Ice Look. The right arm looks boring. Some armor on the ankles would not Harm. Nice Job on texturing and weapon design.

Good job man, congratulations on completing this!
My only feedback, one artist to the other, is that next time, rather than look at a bunch of monsters people have already created, in order to create your own, try looking more at real life things for inspiration, and I think you'll emerge with something truly unique and something no one has ever thought of before. Someone once gave me that advice, I thought it was excellent.
