Good day, my friends!

Guess who's back! It's been a long time since I posted a new now, and it's really a shame. My applogies for 'vanishing' for some months. I only wish I had more time to spend with you guys again but, now that I work fulltime, finding time to spend on personal projects is hard. That said, know that yours truely is reading the forum every day, checking out your awesome artwork, and ofc. deleting all those annoying 'commercial spam' posts. I just haven't had the time to post much myself lately. I'm really looking forward to, once again, going to 'war' with you guys! All my spare time is allocated to this purpose until the last sword is drawn. I hope I'll be able to finish. Let's blow them out of the water, just like we did last year!

Personally, I haven't decided on a race, class etc. yet. I need a few days to 'let it sink in' and develope a concept in my head, before I start drawing sketches and roughing out some concepts in 3D. This thread will serve as my 'WIP thread' for the war. I'll update this thread as often as I can with new content.

Looking forward to seeing your WIPs, guys!
Good luck, and best wishes!

Antievo-3DT.

Backstory: (WIP)

Somewhere in the universe is a small drifting planet by the name Juió. Juió is populated by the mystic race, known to us humans only as Recondo Imperturbatus - the reserved and undisturbed. They might not be beautiful by human standards but, they are a peaceful and highly intelligent race, governed by a well balanced and 'soft-spoken democracy.' The Recono are what we humans would call Androgynous, in the sence that they do not have a static gender value. Every individual is able to produce offspring single-handedly. That said, they seldom reproduce due to their high life expectancy and unique revival techniques. Their only true enemies are robotic forces/units who favour spontaneous attacks of harsh brute force, as well as certain types of organic disruptive magic.

Through centuries - as their beloved Juió drifted through the universe - the Recondo as a race have gained vast amounts of knowledge and firmly established their position in the universe. Beeing a humble race and equal as individuals, none really stand out amongst their own. The one exeption is Káluna na-Juió, meaning 'The One of Juió.'

Káluna was 'chosen' by Juió to serve as its first evolved inhabitant and 'living spirit' – the 'mother of all. Her initial task was to slowly populate the planet. Bring it to life. To justify this enormous responsibility, she was bestowed upon a living/organic 'artifact' (weapon) called Hirtana ne-Juió ('The Heart of Juió) to serve as an 'extention' to her mind. This orb-like artifact gave Káluna the power to use Juiós' 'holy spirit' for combat, aide and defence.

To be continued ... (?)

Concept Sketch #1.

All I have for 'visuals' at the moment is this first concept sketch I did last night in bed, half asleep. Since I don't have alot of time for this project, I have to draw on the train on my way to work etc. When I get time to do so, I'm going to do some Photoshop paint-overs with my Wacom.

If I could draw half asleep I would be the happiest guy alive :D nice so far!

Hehe he is the brain bug :D

Thanks, Star_Scream. Haha! Yeah, I just woke up the other day and, the sketch was lying on my desk next to my bed ...
Luckily, I had the video surveillance tapes to clearify :p

Concept Sketch #2.

Here is another go. I'm trying to rough out the general shape of the head.
(Details such as eyes, mouth, overlaps etc. will come later.)

Detail References:

I figured that I would just find some 'reference' of detail through google instead of drawing them myself. That way I can get started on the 3D sooner, since I'm not very good with the pencil.

Model Update #1:

I started creating the 'base mesh' that I will use for sculpting in ZBrush. It was created in 3D Studio Max 9. After exporting this to ZBrush (when the high-res model is done) I'll export it back to 3D Studio Max for re-creation/tweaking to fit the ZBrush generated Normal Map. I don't have alot of experience in this 'workflow' so if you guys have any good advice it would be most apritiated.

They might not be beautiful by human standards but, they are a peaceful and highly intelligent race,

aye. one ugly lady lol. really love the back story and a great idea. so many female characters that are going to come out of this competition will be the basic bombshell beauty with a gun or sword.. will be great to see something original and different, and so far this is just that :) looking forward to updates! great work.

Haha, L3XICON! Yeah, I want to do something different with this. Ugly chicks FTW! :p Thanks for the kind words and encouragement :)

Model Update #2:

A little update on the 3D model. I'm having problems with the mouth/chin at the moment. And the 'transition' from the next to the body. I'm kinda' working the body concept on the fly, so it takes a little while longer than usual. The 'eye spheres' are ofc. only placeholders for modeling purposes. I'm trying to work out how to best use the loops I've got so far and retoping' a bit. I'm open for good suggestions! :)

If I'd be in a battle field and come across a saggy-hairy-butt face creature I would instantly flee and rather face a firing squad.
Geez... that's an ugly joe (in a good way) :D

somehow, it reminds me of a sweet old lady with a wig....

and yeah, saggy boobs will force anyone out of the way as fast as, ooh, say, a gattlinggun, with nukes.... :)

ZBrush Test #1:

I needed to see how far I could push my current base-mesh in ZBrush. I am still trying to figure out what 'workflow' that's going to work best for this project. Also, I get to show of a little more of the concept. In other words; I decided to do some early sculpting tests in ZBrush - it's fun! :D

Tank[NL]:
Oh, yeah! "She's" and ooold lady!
Saggy boobies, on the way!

many people will create a basemesh then import to zbrush or mudbox, the sculted, then take the lowest subdivided mesh from zbrush back into their modeling program to retopologize, then use the new mesh as the main mesh, unwrap it, and apply the normal map to that. And with 2 month for this comp, there is plenty of time to do that.

Antievo-3DT
24-02-2008, 09:56 PM
Yeah. That's what I think I'm going to do. I've been doing some exports/imports with the above modelto test stuff out. I haven't done any other than 'hard-surface/in-organics' for games (low-poly) before, so this is going to be an interesting experience! If you happen to see that I'm about to make a royal skrew-up, poke me! Thanks, BiG Toe! :D

Thank, DaddyDoom. I've been working on the base mesh for the body in my spare time lately, but haven't found 'the right' shape just yet. I hope to get it done soon, so I can start on clothing and equipment. Expect to see some more concept and sculpting updates soon.
