Challenge #5
Panic and Destruction
What do you have to do:
This time you may choose your own base image as long as it's located/related to a city and bring in panic and destruction  Think to cloverfield, everyone loves cloverfield . The source of destruction can be: Alien Crash, Monster, Meteor or anything else you can imagine.
The Panic can be suggested by crowds or, by using a proper color palette/mood.
I want you to pay close attention to atmosphere and mood this time. Consider this a print-add for a movie. Make us want to go and see it...
Also you can choose as a set anything from a complete cityscape to a street view
Examples of street view (note: these are just reference, you may *not* use them as stock image):

Deadline: 31th March 2008
Judges: This month the judging board is formed by:
- Tiberius Viris
- David Edwards (everlite)
- Chris Perrins
Have fun and be creative! :)

okay first to aks a question.... Is the angle of the reference image contrained to the examples you gave? Are we allowed to say make another angle like birds eye view?
Are we allowed to portray the "Monster", "Meteor"?
Thats all for now, maybe I'll post some more later... :D
Yay, I think I might have time to join this one :)

eyecone, Yona replied to your first question :D As for second, you can portray it, but that's not the point of the matte...

The images you supplied links too are covered by a 'creative commons license' which does allow them to be used and manipulated.
Seeing as this is not for commercial use, it's pretty fair to let people use them. I think I might as plates like that are hard to come by and it's only for fun.

hey guys, been hanging around the mp forums for a while now, been waiting
for the time to join one of these challenges, this seems the perfect one as I've already got an image I made for an ad campaign.
So I'm going to a close up of this scene which is Sydney, Australia btw.
Mike
some weeks ago i made this twister with a little bit c4d and Photoshop.
I got a lot more with "independence day" "king kong" etc.
I like making movie desasters!

I would prefer if you would take this challenge from scratch, to be fair versus others...
Hi,
I'm in! Great topic! Some time ago I made a nice foto of Monte Carlo, so I'll destroy the city ... Hope to make it till the deadline.
Btw, should we post the wip here?

Cool!:shout: I thought I had just missed it. I started on the project last night thinking I was almost too late. Attack of the Killer Squirrels is my scenes theme. Seeing as how the date is extending I'll post a preview a week from now.;P

There were five entries that made the deadline...that's bull crap.
So I'm assuming anyone who's already entered can retract their entry and keep working until the 14th?

inveni0: Yes that is exactlly the point. Mattepainting is not about speed bu perfection. Hey if you think you can still improve your work then why not right? :D

Because a deadline is a deadline is a deadline. Bah, perhaps I've been in the industry for too long.

Deadlines are deadlines but now I have a chance to be a part of this challenge, so it's cool, plus for those who have already created something can take more time to improve their work. :smug:

inveni0: I get your point, I feel the same way... This is supposed to be a test of both discipline and talent. A proving ground for those who wants o join in the industry. Thats is fine BUT.... for those who are working (like me) the same rule might not apply, its entirelly a case to case basis. Thats why extending it was a good call. :D

Yays! My first matte painting entry. It's an "unauthorized, uncontrolled demolition"
