Speed Painting Challenge no. 71 arrives. starts now and ends on the 22nd of March, 2008, Saturday.

Topic: Strange City (Another place, another time).

Paint a cityscape/city scene having strange characteristics, regarding construction, planning etc. it can be futuristic, or from the past, uve to show something unique about the place, from your imagination. Its the design that will count, not necessarily an overly abstracted landscape, just like another place from other times. Its upto u to include whatever u like to, just be sure to reflect the theme strongly. the topic gives u a big area to play around...:).

Start painting and posting, challenge will be closed on the 22nd of March. Voting starts after the announcement.

Hello. Here is my thought. A mysterious virus killed everything living on Earth.
For this time I decided to do something realy fast. Spended time - 40 mins. Photoshop, Genius tablet.

My first time entering a 3dtotal competition. I saw the concept and had the image below in my head. I used Photoshop, using a mouse. it took me about 2 hours to do this picture.

Oh ..and i also added a little move people on the "bridge"...
Thats landing me at about 2-3 hours + 20 minutes actual working time,
and about 2-3 days of thought process (+20 minutes!) ..

Here go my votes as well as some comments.

1 - Rawwad. A really amazing piece, i love the colors and the overall dynamic, the perspective and the feel for the vast space and hugeness of the buildings. Excellent level of detail, wisely distributed, superb brush strokes, everything in the right place. I am impressed and inspired. Thanks!

2 - Nucron. i like the mood of this piece, u did a fine job on the rider, the horse has some anatomical issues with its hind leg imho. Great colors and i like the idea, a bit more variation on the architecture would have improved the piece i think. Love the calm and layed-back athmosphere.

3 - Artecnl. Fine and smooth piece. like the framing and the composition, u really know how to make the viewer believe the bright, futurecity in the distance. The colorscheme is a bit too saturated in the sky imho. The specular bloom is perfect. Nice level of detail. I really like your way of conveiing structures to the viewer, the towers awesome, could u share your technique there? Professional brushwork.

Reddgrrr - Very nice mood in your picture, i really like it. I think a bit more colorvariation could have made the pic really nice. Like using desaturated greens, yellows or purples, or make it a bit more sand-orange colored. The concept is cool and you did a great job with composition and perspective. A bit more contrast would have been great also.

M_Cedarstorm -Ahh, my eyes hurt :). The perspective is a bit forced imho(third piece), but the colors are really different. Great painterly style this could look awesome on printed out bigscale on a wall in a modern house. Nice and different approach. Overall your colors are very intensive, a bit too saturated for my taste
But your pics have dynamic!

Cid228 - Great mood and nice pic, i like the raptor in the background :).

mr_poppin_fresh - Awesome concept here, really like the shading, design and overall composition. The rendering could use some more variation in terms contrast imho. Great entry!

pitchus - Really nice detail and mood here, pitchus, i can see the work in it. I really love your cityscape. A bit more variation on the foreground would have helped the picture it hink. Great Skyeffect.

milan - Dynamic one, i like the brushwork. Could have used a bit more Detail on the big thing though and some resting points for the eyes with less turbulence and detail in the distance. Unique style.

somepantsman - man this concept rocks. I had a hard time deciding whom to vote for cause this idea is just refreshing. While the figure is really cool, you could have used more shadows and maybe have some more variation in the background. Keep it up mate!

pgomez - Nice idea and cool concept! Although u should work more on your perspective and get tablet :). The city itself is nicely shaded, i like the colorsetting.

zylak - where is your entry man ;)

timbo-la - Welcome! Nice you made it to the competition. Cool colors there and clean setup here. Im thinking of an pop-art piece. Im not sure wether i like the blue foreground or not. Your sky definitely rocks.
