I am trying to create leafs using material mapping on a plane (Max4). The problem is when I render it the opacity map doesn't seems to work. It looks as if the tree's full of paper leaves! Is there something I've missed?
Any help is appreciated!!
Thanks!

Have you made a high contrast black and white picture for the opacity map? White for the leaf, and black for the rest. Assign that for the Opacity map, and then try it.

this is the opacity map i've used. the material settings are as shown.didn't tweak it too much except the bump.
Any idea what is wrong?

On second thoughts, a black and white version of what you already have would be better, because leaves are slightly transparent. I've attached a picture you could use.
Re-assigning the material to the planes you have used could work ... other than that, I don't know.

if you're using a targa file with that black and white map in the alpha it maybe be because you haven't set your alpha setting correctly. in the diffuse channel turn alpha as none and set it to rgb, in the opacity channel turn make it just alpha and set alpha as gray.
this is an issue if you use the rgba tga file.
good luck
