Hey everyone

I'm working on this pic of a tree spirit, its supposed to be reaching to the heavens as if to see them for the last time, as it is dying.

Or it could just be some entity that has a mysterious connection to the full moon I guess.

I'd really like to receive tips on how to make this picture look better and more professional.

Especially the hills - I have no idea how I should color them.
In real life, at the evening, hills that are close by should appear in a regular color and hills that are far away are half-shrouded by the atmosphere and so should have a blue tinge, that I know. But how should the hills be colored when its nighttime? Nearby hills in a light color and far away hills in a dark color, vice versa, or otherwise?

I'd also love to receive tips on other things if possible.

Thanks!

Cool concept cat. Is it 3d?. I really can't tell if its painted, or zbrushed, can you enlighten us?

It's very stylistic, i'd like to see way stronger rim lighting on the objects especially the tree figure.

Thanks for the compliments J, very cool to get them, especially from a professional such as yourself.

I made the tree, the cliff and the mushrooms in Zbrush, and then textured them in Photoshop. The rest of the pic is 100% photoshop.

Could you please tell me what you mean by stronger rim lighting? Does it mean that you think I should make a circle-shaped light beacon coming from the direction of the moon, casting light on the tree and its surrounding area?

Trying to make the hills in Zbrush now btw, using this (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=59678&page=1&pp=15) awesome tutorial as a guideline.

Update.
Gave up on the 3d hills idea, went for 2d ones instead.
I am most interested in your feedback - I'd really like to make this pic look as good as possible.

i think you should make it brighter. as i feel like my eyes are bad from looking at it. the moon could stand too be bigger. also the eye should have a slight glow. what softwares are you using?

interesting design TheChesireCat. looks great, I agree with DJdude though, maybe add a little contrast and brightness. its a bit flat and dark at the moment. but great use of 2d and 3d work :D
