View Full Version : Speed Sculpt Challenge - 003 - Supersoldier (Nudity Warning)

Here is my first ever zbrush model that I've actually put any real effort into.
2.5 hours worth of sculpting.
Not really a 'super' soldier, but still a soldier. I got bored so I'll leave him alone now.
This was fun. I might do another.

Last question for the night
Can anybody help me out with putting the eyeballs in?
I'm not sure your question was answered, so I'll give it a go if it isn't too late, although it has been a long time since I used ZB2 so my apologies if I get something wrong.
The best procedure is to first combine the head and eyes into one obj in another app and then import this combined obj into ZB and then set the head and eyes up as polygroups. Obviously, this is no good if you've already sculpted the head.
If you already have the head in ZB, then I think you will need to use multimarkers to combine the head and eyes into one ZB tool.
*Draw the head on the canvas, shift-move it to snap it into a front view and multimark it
*Clone the head in the Tool palette, select the clone and then import the eyes obj into it (this doesn't make the eyes and head clone one tool; what it does (I think) is make the eyes inherit the size and positional data of the head)
*Multimark the eyes, clear the document, select the multimarker tool and draw the multimarked head-eyes tool on the canvas (there used to be a bug where the first multimarked tool doesn't show on the canvas)
*Click the button that combines the two multimarked tools into one (I can't remember what it was called), select the new tool in the palette, draw it and save it
*Set up polygroups for the new tool so you can easily select/mask the head and eyes separately
I hope that helps, but knowing the problems people used to have with multimarkers, it probably raised more questions.
Emeth003: Ahhh sweet sculpt, a lot of character !
I'm impressed of how you pushed the base mesh without subtools - may I ask how you've done the straps and googles so uniform ? did you use masks ?
lawndart
06-06-2008, 12:23 AM
So here is my entry. I pushed it right to the four hour limit too. Still not anywhere near a complete piece, but this is for practice right? I'm still very new to 3D programs so be kind.
I used online pics of Michael Chiklis (Fantastic Four/The Shield) as ref for the face. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks for all the great inspiration and I hope to enter many more of these.
lawndart
06-06-2008, 12:26 AM
ps. I used the RS_GreenClay material in zbrush with standard view settings and no rendering for the pics. All post compositing was done in photoshop. Overall, the model has 898,560 polys all pulled from the original mesh. no additional subtools except for the provided eyes.

Alright, here's my second stab at this challenge. The first one was totally screwed so I took some time away from this to learn more about Zbrush (importing and exporting from Max, normal map generation, polygroups, etc) and have come back at this with a few new tools up my sleeve.
I'm going with the idea that he's a genetically altered human, but he's been so altered that he's sort of trapped in this huge muscular body. Lots more work to be done.
Sathe: Thanks for the help. This time through I made a morph target at the beginning, and i've seperated elements into polygroups so I can get more control .
Aleks-3dT: Damn.. both entries are great... would love to know how you got the visor to stick out like that on your second entry.. is it a teeth-tool?
siamakcgm: I really like this guy, some really interesting forms with the armour. I could definitely see this guy fitting into the world of 'Crysis'.
Emeth003: Wow... the facial expression is superb. His teeth kinda remind me of Schwarzenegger's. You're first entry is great too.. How were you able to get the shredded ends on the t-shirt?

I've said this in the Final Submissions thread as well, but I will say it here too, in case some people don't check back there after posting their final submissions.
Everyone who is not using the Forum Attachment function to display their final submissions, in the Final Submissions Thread, will be disqualified. There are several reasons for this, and it is important to respect it. So please, will the following contestants edit their posts and attach their images via Threedy's Forum Attachment function:

So this character came to me in a flash. She perfectly fits the Supersoldier brief. Having said that, this is the second time I've sculpted this one today :( I was closing in on 4 hours and nearly done the first time, although not as well as this one turned oute, when I remembered that I'd been in a sculpting trance and hadn't saved in ages. So I saved. And during the save Zbrush crashed... :wall:
In true professional style the only other save I had was from about an hour into it... :wall: :wall: :wall:
Still, got there in the end and this one's a lot better. Seeing as I did all the leg-work in the first go, I was able to work a lot more speedily :) Really happy with this one. Oh and by the way, if you haven't used Transpose Master, you are totally missing out. Mix that with some blur masking and you can pose your stuff unbelievably quickly. I love this program more and more.

Stumbled upon your great new speedchallenge forum and just had to join! Digged up my old profile here and started! Amazing pieces in these speed-sculpts. Really looking forward to seeing more from you guys!
Just a blockout from me, for now. I hope I got time to finish him.

Montecristo Glad u decided to re-do the model, it looks great!!!! 1 of my favorites!! guessing the braids are the "teeth" meshes, how bout the hair in the front (fleco in spanish, not sure how u say it in english) is that also the "teeth", just the other end of it? it goes through the characters head? or was it pulled? anyway WOW!!:D:!!!:
Here's my sculpt. A little late, dunno if I can finish it. Gonna head of to work in couple of minutes and won't be back until tonight.
Excellent work from everyone!

Thanks matey. Actually the front fringe is one set of teeth, this was really easy to do. The two braids on the back are actually the other teeth. I rotated this and dragged the centre into the head, then stretched the two sides downward, subdivided them, then pinched them together from then on, I had to work really fast so used the inflat tool to create some rough braids, over which I used the standard brush with the rake dots alpha to add hair strands. This I then pinched together again. :) I may go through this part after the comp is done and do a cleaner job though.
Idea: A soldier standing, despite a nuclear blast not far away! If that's not a supersoldier, I don't know what is!!
2 hours. Cheers!
Supersoldier indeed! I think you need to add hair then, something that gives more impression of a nuclear wind blowing through. :)

hehe you're definitely not the only one.Zbrush is extremely unstable and most of the crashes happen when you try to save your progress. At least on my machines... That's one of the reasons why I use Mudbox ;)
There is a actually a handy script at ZCentral that saves your progress by making new save files every time you press the save button (example: supersoldier001,supersolider002 etc etc...). You can set this save button to,let's say,CTRL+S so it's quite useful.
If you're interested I can search for this script :)
