Speed Painting Challenge no. 74

Topic: Fight Scene

Idea: This has great possibilities, you can go from two people fighting it out, Street Fighter style, or you could go with an old western style dual. You could even have two people going at it over a chessboard, its up to you and how you see a fight in your head.

Deadline: 11:59 pm (GMT) Sunday 22nd of June. (use the time zone thread to make sure your done on time)

Prizes:
Winner gets to choose one of the following options:
- 6-month subscription to the 2DCreative magazine
- 6-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine

Rules:

-Any medium is allowed, as long as it can be put into digital form - scanned, photographed, etc.

- Since it's a speed painting, it should be finished in the smallest amount of time possible, but if you paint a whole day, you won't get disqualified . But for example, 4 days is too much

- IF YOU PAINT MULTIPLE ENTRIES, YOU NEED TO STATE BEFORE THE DEADLINE WHICH ONE YOU LIKE THE BEST. IF NOT – I’LL DO IT FOR YOU

- References can be used - 3D or photograph, BUT you can't paint over them. It has to be your own painting.

- Custom brushes can be used, but to some extent - they can't be pre-made parts of the future painting, like a whole tree, brush, cloud, explosion, lighting... you get the point. They can be - a couple of leaves, a couple of grass blades

- There will be a final entry thread for you to post your work in, use this thread to crit each others work.

What a wonderful and fantastic idea this is, I can see some many scenario's out there, I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with for this one.

wow you guys are fast, I've tried making a post for Street Fighter's Blanka, I found a line art sketch from a capcam website, and copied the sketch and scanned it in, I don't know why when it's exactly the same. And then started colouring and drawing in details and mine looks more like vector artwork than a painting. I'm still using a mouse to paint aswell :(

Mind you though, i'm learning nicely here, and enjoying it, I don't think it'll be eligable for this challenge, as just blocking in the basic colours, highlights and shadows so far has taken me 3 hours, so i'll leave it for a portfolio peice I think.

I really admire anyone that can paint this well and this fast, I take me hat off to you all!

@big toe sir : tell me if a wizard attacking many bad guys allowed or it has to be physical
form of fighting,and do dbz type atacks qualify.
@ artecnl sir : the only anatomical problem in that one is that the legs are shorter than
the upper body thats all. sir if u feel u have problem with human forms
then try avoiding close ups,do silhoutes of them and enhance the scene
with what u do the best, the strokes ,.

I have the same type of problem, when I add colour the image ends up looking like a cartoon. a bit of colour theory would probably help a lot, But what I found good was to watch some speed painting videos on youtube.

Eos - That is gorgeous, so amazing even in the early stages.

This is not an entry, but this is my test Blanka from Street Fighter II, as you can see he looks more vectorised at the moment, all the colouring is done in layers within photoshop, so i've got trousers, trousers tears, skin, skin highlights, skin shadows, hair, hair highlights etc etc.

I wan't to try and smooth this artwork out, not the line work, but the rest of the colouring, i'm going to try and experiment, but it's been such a long time since I was at art college, and it's almost as if i'm having to learn colour theory, colour charts, midtones, lighting and shadowing again.

The background is a test background it's Sakura's Stage which i've blurred, ideally i'd like to have Blanka fighting either Ken or Ryu, I always preferred Ken Masters in the game as he was always slightly phycho with a better throw a kick throw and a fast fireball.

As I say this is a learning experiement for me, i've not touched 2D for far too long and I needed to get back into it.

Artecnl: If you have a problem with proportions of the figure you could try to brush up with some sketches of people for reference. I find a good dose of life drawing helps, it could just be some people walking down the street. Very nice painting though.

Think i'll give this one a go, need a good idea to start with though :wall:

Done in PSCS3 in 4hrs 40mins.
