Speed Painting Challenge no. 75
Topic: Deep Sea Creature
Idea: Lets put it this way; you just paid a ton of money to go fishing in the ocean. You and your buddies toss out your lines and sit back, drink a few beers and wait for a tug. Suddenly, your line goes taught, kind of buzzed from the beers you stagger over to your rod and try to reel in your catch. But you are in for a surprise, as the animal at the end of your line has another thing in mind. The creature tugs against the line, pulling you in and dragging you deep into the sea where you come face to face with the creature. Unfortunately your camera doesn’t work at these depths, so you will have to paint what you see and fast, your running out of air.
Deadline: 11:59 pm (GMT) Sunday 6th of July. (use the time zone thread to make sure your done on time)
Prizes: (must be at least 6 entries)
Winner gets to choose one of the following options:
- 6-month subscription to the 2DCreative magazine
- 6-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine
Rules:
-Any medium is allowed, as long as it can be put into digital form - scanned, photographed, etc.
- Since it's a speed painting, it should be finished in the smallest amount of time possible, but if you paint a whole day, you won't get disqualified . But for example, 4 days is too much
- IF YOU PAINT MULTIPLE ENTRIES, YOU NEED TO STATE BEFORE THE DEADLINE WHICH ONE YOU LIKE THE BEST. IF NOT – I’LL DO IT FOR YOU
- References can be used - 3D or photograph, BUT you can't paint over them. It has to be your own painting.
- Custom brushes can be used, but to some extent - they can't be pre-made parts of the future painting, like a whole tree, brush, cloud, explosion, lighting... you get the point. They can be - a couple of leaves, a couple of grass blades
- There will be a final entry thread for you to post your work in, use this thread to crit each others work.

Hello everyone,
good stuff so far!
Just one thing I noticed, is that its hard to tell the size of the sea creature if there is nothing to measure against. bgen, M_Cederstrom and some others have put in little people which gives a reference to size. so if you were to take something bigger like a great white shark (on average is about 14 feet long) or a whale and make it small beside your creature, it would really make it look huge!
The below image is not a painting its just an example.

Artecnl: Hey that background looks hot! Not too fond of the fish though.
JHarford: Nice piece, it has alot of potential. The only thing is that your image doesn't look like it's underwater. I'm not really sure why, maybe it's the lighting.
