Speed Painting Challenge no. 76

Topic: Aliens

Idea: The Aliens are coming, the Aliens are coming. They are taking our women and children, even our cars and snack food. This is horrible. They must be using some sort of space-aged device that is blocking our news cameras from showing their faces. Hurry everyone, grab a pen or a pencil, or a crayon, or a wacom tablet and draw these creatures before they get away. If you don’t have anything to draw with, eat some cheetos and use your cheesy fingers to scribble something down, but you must do it fast before they take your cheetos away too.

Deadline: 11:59 pm (GMT) Sunday 20th of July. (use the time zone thread to make sure your done in time)

Prizes: (must be at least 6 entries)
Winner gets to choose one of the following options:
- 6-month subscription to the 2DCreative magazine
- 6-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine

Rules:

-Any medium is allowed, as long as it can be put into digital form - scanned, photographed, etc.

- Since it's a speed painting, it should be finished in the smallest amount of time possible, but if you paint a whole day, you won't get disqualified . But for example, 4 days is too much

- IF YOU PAINT MULTIPLE ENTRIES, YOU NEED TO STATE BEFORE THE DEADLINE WHICH ONE YOU LIKE THE BEST. IF NOT – I’LL DO IT FOR YOU

- References can be used - 3D or photograph, BUT you can't paint over them. It has to be your own painting.

- Custom brushes can be used, but to some extent - they can't be pre-made parts of the future painting, like a whole tree, brush, cloud, explosion, lighting... you get the point. They can be - a couple of leaves, a couple of grass blades

well, I have never tried a speed painting comp before, so thought with such an excellent subject I'll give it a bash. a quick wip from me, about 1 hour 30 in so far. hoping to finish in under 4 hours total....

Ok, it's been a while since I tried my hand at a speed painting. Heres my first attempt at half an hours worth of work.

Didn't have any ideas of what type of alien to create so I just started throwing some shapes together.

Hopefully they will get better the more I do..... :)

Keep in mind I can't draw, but I'll give you a horse alien to laugh at :D

Drawn in ArtRage using an "penabled" HP Tablet PC over 50 minutes or so. I might carry on with it as 50 minutes isn't necessarily that long to spend on something :)

I decided I wasn't really getting anywhere in Photoshop so decided to go back to good old pen and paper with a quick colour wash in ps.

these are harmless... i've become a friend with them... they asked me a lot of questions about our anatomy (don't know why, lol), so i took them to school, to learn something.
when returned, they were covered in this weird red color... i guess they had a painting lesson or something...
anyway, they are pretty nice to me. they even let me paint them in a squadron.
took 40 minutes.
i am going to show them our church and parliament tomorrow...

anyway, be careful while chasing fire-flies, they just might be blood-thirsty aliens (got the inspiration while looking out of the window, they are everywhere around here).

Haven't done a speed paint challenge in a while. Subject was fun so I thought I'd give it go.

Have some comments & critiques too :

#8 - pgomez - Interesting idea. Seems to get flat in some areas.

#11 - L3XICON - Awesome alien, shading and glow is really cool.

#16 - Lukanus - Cool sketch, it would be really cool to see it in color though.

#17 - pgomez - Neat alien, reminds me of Oddworld.

#18 - chrisskinner - Really fun style, like the shininess of the "armor".

#19 - M_Cederstrom - Neat alien, kinda reminds me of Species. It could probably use some more contrast though, there aren't any pure blacks or whites, just darker shades of green.

#20 - Dex - Neat take on the subject, the ship, and not the lifeform, came out cool.

#23 - Perversonality - Really fun looking alien, hope you can take the time to flesh it out.

#24 - Alletun - One of my favorites, the photons coming out the head are really nice. It would be cool to see the start of some sort of background elements.

#26 - subhash.hash - This one is super fun, love the colors.

#28 - chrisskinner - Cool sketches, had the same idea with the respirator thing; don't think most aliens could breathe our atmosphere. I like the proportions of the top one the best.

#29 - Lukanus - Cool portrait, frame is really neat too.

#30 - pitchus - Proportions are awesome; would definitely not like to confront those guys. I would like to "clear the smoke" a little to see some detail though.

#32 - Milan - Neat little alien spaceport. The framing is really nice.

#33 - HA-Jassar - Interesting. Could probably use some more contrast. Might look cool with a shadow to "land" it; kinda looks like it's floating right now.

#34 - vnmribaya - Really nice detail and framing. Glows and cloth look really nice. Good job.

#35 - rodriguez - Gross little guy. The small details are really cool; little hairs, eyes. Body area seems to get lost and a little fuzzy.

#36 - pitchus - Really awesome! This guy is great. Very neat idea about the fireflies. Nicely done, cool style.

thanks!! well, about that smoke and details. there aren't any details, so i added smoke... i am lazy faggot. but than, i suddenly realised, that i have time and nothing to do, so i made the other one. my life is poetry :D thank you again!

about your creation the lighting and coloring is awesome, i love that little guy at big guy's ****** :) the left shoulder is a bit off though. overall, nice one ;)

its been a while since i did a speed painting compitition for this site. well this peice took 3 1/2 hours, done in photoshop cs3 with a bamboo tablet. this is my first time im using a tablet and it was a lot of fun, and i hope you like my contribution. C&C are welcome.
