hey all. been some time since my last post here. been kinda busy working on some portfolio pieces as well as enjoying my vacation
that is, until a few days ago
never been one for inorganic, but a friend of mine challenged me to a modeling contest. 2 weeks to build a complete SCV, including textures.
i've been working on the model pretty much non-stop since wednesday and i got most of the model done. i plan on handpainting some displacement maps to put in some panels, since my mesh is pretty clean atm and i'd like to keep it that way :) .
the scv might not look like what you might have expected, as i my reference is from SC2. the new scv is pretty blocky and judging from the sice of the cockpit, its also pretty big.
i started unwrapping yesterday, as i suck at texturing. i thought i'd make the model asap and focus on the texture.
here is what i got so far. a clay render and a texture test.
enjoy all and lemme know what you think

looking good at this point .
just a little bear but i think your textures will fix that up
I'm also liking the blue rust on the vents on the head/cabin
keep it up i am looking forward to seeing the textured finished product
Cheers Xzifer

hey guys, glad you all like it and thnx for the positive feedback. i do plan on adding more detail, like vents, thrusters, fuel-ports and stuff like that, but i first need to beat my friend. i need to bury his version of the scv under the awesomeness that will be mine :D
as for now, im almost done with my uv's. ill add stuff to the cockpit later on as well. for now tho, its texturing time.

This is looking really good but the spirals on the drill could maybe be smoothed out a bit?
But that's my opinion though :)
Looking forward to more updates! :D

Nemesissy: i actually did that 2 days ago. was a real bitch to fix, but its done.
got an update tho. made a start on the texture for the cockpit. needs more dirt and stuff, but ill do that after the deadline.
C&C welcome :D
later all

Looking better and better mate!
I love the rusty texture you've put on, it looks like the machine's actually has been used.
But a thing that would be cool (after the deadline perhaps?) is scrapes and a crack or two in the cockpit-window. :p
But keep rolling out those updates! Really enjoy watching people do what they're good at in this forum :)

Nemesissy: cheers, mate. i actiually wanted a really run down, beaten, look to it. making textures for that is a lot more interresting when compared to a brand new shiny machine.
new update. did some work on the main body texture. needs more detail, like faded paint near the rust, stuff like that.
enjoy

*McDonalds theme* I'm lovin' it!
This is looking great! :D
I just came to think of a thing i ALLWAYS forget when i make textures with rust.
Since this is meant to be used outside etc. i think it would be an idea to have rust like this under the vents and stuff:http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2001/2339086672_35b827a461.jpg?v=0
So it looks like there's been water on it which makes the rust go downwards.

Pet peeve wtf? now im confused.
anyway, the deadline me and my friend had set has come and gone, so im gonna post the final i submitted for our little contest. its far from done. i wanna do a ****load more to the texture and even to the model. just some many things i still wanna add. a cockpit, controls, thrusters, fuel-intakes, better paint deformation near the rust, rust-bleed, the list goes on.
i made three renders to show the whole model and some finer details. each render took over 1 hour :S so, well, im glad i got lots of movies :D
the whole model is pretty blocky. i wanted to make it as close as i could to the SC2 version as i could. i did leave myself some artistic freedoms tho :)
this is the last update ill be able to give in like, 3 weeks. going to norway :D
enjoy and C&C welcome

lol first of all, if you're going to south-norway, it's going to be HOT! Norway's not cold in summertime actually.
But if you're going mid-norway to north-norway you should be fine :)
Regarding local customs i don't think there are any specific ones...Be polite and nice as usual :D
When it comes to food you should really try something with fish in it, it's usually pretty good!
And besides that you should just relax and have a great time mate!
see ya in a few weeks :D
