View Full Version : How do I create an Animation Background?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to 3dmax (ver. 2008) and for the last month I been working on a dolphin tutorial..and I've managed to model the dolphin and animate it...and it looks great too me....but...It would look much nicer if it had an enviorment for it too swim around in.

Could someone here...explain how I go about creating a background envoirnment, or direct me to a tutorial please.

If by animation background, you mean overlay your dolphin on an animated background, you would place the movie file in the background slot (as a 'bitmap' shader) in the environment dialogue.

Thank You for your quick reply,

I'm sorry, i guess i wasn't quite clear on what I wanted to acheive. what I have done is animated a dolphin...now I would like to give it a enviornment that it actually swims around in....This is what I mean by background

sorry my termology isn't up to the standrads I veiw here...but that too will come

You need to create the environment the same way
you created your dolphin, the ocean floor, maybe
particles and plants.
Here's a tutorial, the water is fog, you can use also
volumetric lights for rays of light coming from the
surface
