Hi shashank,
I'd advise you look through the 3dsmax help under lighting to get a grasp of what the different lights and their parameters do. The MAX help system is VERY good. It might also be worth checking out the Advanced lighting. I'd also suggest you get a grounding in creating a good 3 point lighting rig...

Hello Shashank,
welcome to threedy.
usually lighting comes quiet later in the learning process.
Focus first on modelling and animation. Try to get comfortable with the software first. Such problems may be pretty overwhelming for beginners.
I suggest,
1. you use the default lighting system of max, at best see the prefrences and change default lighting to 2 lights (1 is default). then in the view menu, select add default lights to scene and choose default options. The default Lights are added to your scene. It'd be nice to study their position by selecting zoom extents all.
or,
2. in the perspective view, create a free camera.with the camera selected, (and perspective being your active view) press ctrl+c (match camera to view) the press c to change to camera view you just created. now add lights in the top viewport on the same side of the model as your camera is. (use omni lights only, in the beginning, as you improve you may switch to useing spots etc.)
you can then change the Z coordinate of your lights in the left or front views. this way the visible side of your model will always be lit.
hope this helps.
Sorry if its too elementary, see you do not mention if you are new to 3d graphics or have migrated from another software.
cheers

You need to go:
Customize>Viewport configuration>Render Method
or
Right click on any viewport name and select configure...
It's under the Rendering Options Group!
