hair/fur plugin that works with global illumination..?

I've been working on a character that requires fur. I was thinking of using some of Digimations plugins for Fur and Hair, but realised they they would probably not work with Global illumination (Max5 and Brazil). Is this true> if so does anyone know of any fur/hair plugins that do work with global illumnation? ifnot what other ways are there of creating fur with geometry?
