Hi,

I'm making a Cathedral as school project. I've posted it in 'Work in Progress - Inorganic: Cathedral Project' (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=62113) but as you can see I need some help with the lightning.

I now have:
-1 Vraylight placed before the window.
-1 Spot (Shadow Map) for the volume-light effect.
-6 omni's spread along six windows on the left side of the Cathedral.

I'll update more info on that thread when i have time (Screen crabs, wire frames, etc)

1. change the spotlight shadow map to vray shadow map, u will better shadows
2. reduce the opacity & intentensity of the volume light
3. change the direction of the vray light ( it is facing inside right, turn it around so that the pointer of the vray light is facing outside)
4. enable GI
5. enable light cache & irradance map (it will b there in Indirect illumination rollout)
this should give the results which u want &
please post a Sreenshot of your VRay settings...

In the VRay Environment rollout, enable the GI and change the colour of the
skylight so that it suite's your scene.
Change the secondary bounces to 0.8 or 0.9,

try these & post a rendershot of your Cathedral...

Im rendering some images now, I only didn't flipped the big light at the back because then the wall will also light-up and that looks very unrealistic. Im just experimenting with the numbers now.

What about the light samples when you right-click a vray-light and then vray properties? The diffuse samples are 150 do they need to be higher?

(edit)
I now got some nice lightning and now how do I get rid of most of the noise? And please tell me what image is the best!

here's the first image with new settings im going to make one with a little more light. BTW irradiance map is set to low for some faster renders

the last image is good,
no need to increase the diffuse samples & regarding the noise reduce the vray
light multiplier, change the adaptive QMC to adaptive Subdivision,
In the VRay Environment rollout, reduce the GI mutliplier this will reduce the over all noise...

thx, ill try that tomorrow, then you'll get new renders. I've also been working on the materials. I've also been adding vray-dirt maps to the materials for heavier shadows. But you have to wait for tomorrow for some renders:smug:

Thx

i've worked on the volumetric light today... its giving long render times so its hard to test. When thats done I'm going to work on the noise again.

render the volume light separately & composite it in photoshop...

Uhmmm what is the best way to set up that scene?

(edit)
Never mind i got it fixed, volumelight is the same in scanline and i used Matte/shadow materials to cloak the rest of the objects.

d best to setup the scene is an angle shot wherein u can even see the shadows coming
in from the side of the Cathedral...

sorry for the long time for don't answering but we are very busy with the project. We're having some big problems because we're doing this project together with some multimedia students that made real life movie shots, so i can't just make some images that i like.

The footage isn't very good so we're still trying to fix that these days. I think i have more renders Monday.
