ok giving myself a break from clients and the living room for a while. im trying to get used to moi so i thought i would model my wasp bot i designed a while back (about the same time as the ant bot)
so here is it so far (only spent a couple of hours on it so far)

Is that nurbs? Nice work, what software?

dd_

NeXt 0ne

what is "moi"?

dd_
10-10-2008, 05:47 PM
google mans best mate ;)
http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=moi&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

basically its made by the guy that wrote rhino, but is now making which is aimed at being easier to use and is cheaper. but it is a powerful set of tools imho.

love your work DD, but this isnt anything to get excited about, its looking very similar to your other ones :(, cant you make him have some killer unique thing like... dunno ill leave that to you hehe

dd_
11-10-2008, 05:49 AM
good comment nexusbird so no :( needed and yes its similar to my antbot if i did this when i was supposed to ie when i did the antbot then it would have fitted better as a theme. aww well thanks for being honest mate

That's looking like a good start

I want to follow this one, I'm trying to learn aliasstudio for school, but I find the interface annoying (alt-z for undo? what's up with that?)...ahem, anyway - I love the simplified interface of moi.

I'm curious as to how the refinement and detailing comes along - keep up the good work :)

dd_
11-10-2008, 10:39 AM
moi is good yes, this is only really the 2nd time ive used it so fingers crossed it all goes well

Nice progress...
I think you should make something else to close the gap between the parts,
something a bit bigger than those little arms...

Keep up the good work :)

dd_
11-10-2008, 12:08 PM
no need for bigger arms as they are made from the strongest metal known to all mankind and the body casing is made from the strongest yet lightest material known to all mankind too :)
atleast they are bigger than what i used for the antbot and that has a huge fat arse butt. :)
thanks guys pleased you are liking it so far

your welcome DD, its looking pretty good so far i'm hoping the wings are going to be good looking forward for them.

dd_
11-10-2008, 01:42 PM
oh no, dont you be expecting loads of little frames and cloth etc for the wings because i am thinking top rail/frame and then a foil wing(ish) shaped plate. just thought i would prewarn you :)

dd_
11-10-2008, 07:38 PM

Hey Dave,

I always look forward to your work. You don't look to dissapoint. Does Moi have a native rendered or will you export?

dd_
12-10-2008, 10:30 AM
thanks for the kind words and pleased you like this one :)
no renderer in moi so i will export it to c4d and either use AR3 or fryrender. stay tuned for more

his wings look a bit small to support his big bum!, i just keep imagining him flying and cant see it with them small wings. plus wasp wings generally flare out at the end.

dd_
12-10-2008, 03:08 PM
and nobody thought a bumble bee could fly. i will have a look at making them longer

12-10-2008, 04:07 PM
Interesting software and nicely modelled already.

Maybe you could have a mini bot battle sort of Street Fighter meets robo-insects type thing.

Will you be using Fry Render again, the renders for you're antbt were photoreal.

Very nice to see, and it's great to take a break from the livingroom scene for a little bit, keeps things fresh I think.

CG.

dd_
12-10-2008, 04:20 PM
i have a collection of bugs (dead and behind glass) that i bought so i could make them into bots. this was after i did the antbot so maybe my scene that is in my head will come out sooner rather than later :)
yes the software is nice to use. i said i dont know if i will be using fry or ar3 yet. im pretty sure now that the ant is already set up to be in fry then this will end up that way too.

Very cool work so far!

This model reminds me of when I seen a wasp and a dragonfly collide in mid-air one day on the way to school and they began fighting on the ground. First the wasp cut off each wing one-by-one so it couldn't get away, then it cut the head off and flew away with it... Fight lasted about 40 seconds or so... Just thought I'd share that with you :) Always thought it would be cool to make an animation of it.

dd_
14-10-2008, 08:55 AM
lol thanks mate
wasps are really nasty little gits indeed and i cant work out what they actually give to nature apart from bullying other insects and stinging peeps

nexusbird
14-10-2008, 09:40 PM
wasps are useless they have nothing good to come out of them, they attack people, they make nests in your homes, they steal bees honey, and the list can go on!, lets hope DD's wasp isnt like these :P

dd_
15-10-2008, 05:54 AM
yes some things do take time to get used to, this is one reason i set myself this project and its working as i am getting used to all the tools now. \0/

This is just awesome!!!
I have a question though: how do you prevent the model getting all messed up when importing it. I´m using max, and i´have to use the time i saved modeling in moi, to clean it up again. So: do you save it as an obj? And is it better to go for a lot of polys or less?
Cheers

dd_
17-10-2008, 11:33 AM
i exported as obj and left the slider half way for the poly count and it came in clean :/

its "inprogress" mate lol sorry couldn't help it. yes they are thinner and smaller etc but they are metal/ alloy and the top half is light weight carbonish material. so it will work. or maybe it will just fall over head first due to the weight who knows. its nothing serious and i am sure once its done it will be technically unachievable , but im hoping it will be nice to look at ;). im basically using this as the same as the waspbot an excuse for me to get used to moi (which i must say im starting to love )
