Hi people,

this contest sounds really exciting and for me it should also be a big challenge, because until now I have always been creating pictures just how it arised. This time I'd love to work with ideas and sketches first, before I touch my tablet. Hopefully this early post will push me to work and finish it.

My first thoughts are still quite misty, but I know the title already - the "Newborn" - I'm using it as a working name for the picture I'm doing now and this word has intriguing atmosfere to my imagination. Something like an awakening to a new world, that is quite different from ours, more dangerous and also fascinating. I'll see what I come up with, hopefully soon. I guess I 'see' the pose of that main character already :)

Take care..

UPDATE: I saw some people use attachement in the first post to show the last stage - it sounds like a good idea, I'm trying it:

Hi,
today I started some sketching, still not the entire scene, but I'm slowly sorting my thoughts.. trying different poses and so on.. please don't be laughing on that poor creature sketched in colour :) I think I will put some of these in the picture and maybe some other kinds of 'animals' - strange beings should fit well to my rising sort of fairytale concept..

laughing, who is laughing, if i could draw out just the eyes of a character like that i would be pleased with myself.

it is looking very good so far!

Munkybutt: thanks..

I did some quick sketches today, focused on that creature and it turned out to be very funny.. on the first sight it may look cute, but when it feels scared or hunts for food (it just loves all those insects), it shows its real face.. in fact he is a little devil :)
They use a strange camouflage, stand near to streaky flowers and tall grass and totally disappear..

I'm curious how this turns out in the end..

UPDATE: my boyfriend have just noticed me that this animal resembles a lot ferret.. well, as I see he's right.. what a proof that almost everything has a real decent in something :)

washka: thanks :)

I did some more sketching after todays exam.. I have to make use of time before next one :) today without any creature, just the main character and some poses.. now I'm thinking about the whole composition, I hope I'll start on the picture itself in photoshop soon..

Another very rough sketch and again I won't have time, because my next exam is horribly close... I will work on colours later, it won't probably be so pale (and messy)... and of course those creatures are still missing :)

In Europe, January mean exams for a lot of student...
So you've finally started the painting, cool.

and of course those creatures are still missing
I wonder where they will hide...

It's funny because in my scenery i got three "moss-crabs" hiding too, creatures are always so timid...

Just some more quick sketching, because I'm a bit in hurry (leaving for a couple of days my tablet, but I just had to make something :))
Still messy, I have to clean the picture first in my head.. I realized that almost 2 months without more painting makes it a bit harder now, I have to get into it again.. so maybe some update on monday..

Monday morning update..
Still thinking about colours.. first I wanted them to be quite cold or pale, but I'm a little bit worried with the fact I always paint in such inexpressive way.. I should call it a 'style', but I'm slowly starting to hate it.. I really need more glaring colours :) well, maybe next time..

ANOTHER UPDATE:

And something new, from nearly midnight:
(back to the original idea I had in some sketches.. as I see, almost everything in the scene has some roots in reality.. I will write more about that later.. hopefully there will be time to work soon..)

POSEIdOON: Thanks :)

I did some work on the creature, but those few steps aren't worth posting, maybe tomorrow I'll have time to improve it a bit more and then show..

I finally found some time for update.. still not finished, but it's getting closer.. I guess I'll have to put those pieces of dreams into the story soon :) (well, it is a bit strange story)

Thanks, Daniela :)

I started new school term today and I had my first computer graphics lesson, that turned out to be very useful.. while I was working with curves, saturation and so on, I realized many things.. and also many problems I've had with my pictures before..
I played a bit with light and also did some painting, hope it better now.. I'll continue tomorrow..

I like yore progress, but there are some thinks that bother me a little.
Here face feels a little flat, maby it´s the specular on the cheek that is to straight and doesn't follow the contour of a face ore something like that, and then it´s the nose of the creature. It´s a bit twisted, or maby it´s the head that is a bit twisted ore something like that.
I like you're colour scheme, it feels cool and warm at the same time, keep it up.

I really like your colours. They're cool and a mysteriouse feel to the art.

mr_carl, thanks for your comment.. you're right about the face - I sketched it in the very beginning and I'm planning to work on it later, I see as well that it's flat now.. about the creature - well it's maybe because some strange anatomy, but it's also not clear what is angle of the head - it was supposed to be three quarter view, but teeth look like from the front.. I'll try to improve it ;) hope there will be time for it today..

miycko: thanks, I'm glad you like it.. colours are always a big deal for me :)

Finally back to work.. hope I'll finish it in time..

I'm going to work on girl now.. I know the whole picture is far from being perfect, but today I care more about some feeling than tiny details.. so I hope there will be some atmosphere in it in the end :)

There is a legend in this dreamy, but wild world. At time of someone's death, relatives take his body on a journey to the end of the world (sacred place where water is falling into the deep) and leave him sleeping in a boat-like leaf. With time he changes into a dragon spirit and joins his brothers dancing above the waterfall.
However, this girl was too impatient in her passing and woke up much earlier. She isn't a girl anymore and she isn't a spirit yet. Nor alive, nor dead, just something between.. Avatar of herself..
