Hi,

I'm entering this contest in the hope that it might finally bring an end to my long creative hiatus :dunno:. Here's a -literally- dirty sketch just to get things going, so please excuse my lack of neatness :shy:. Granted, it probably isn't the most original idea, but here's hoping that at least it turns out fun to create :smug:. I'll edit this post to write the story very soon. So stay tuned folks!!

EDIT: Here's the story..

This story, dear friends, is about a poor artist with quite an exceptional talent. A descent man who believed in a day's work for a day's pay. His poverty never succeeded in swaying him away from his moral uprightness. Until that one night when he grew tired of the world and what it has turned into. A soulless machine that sucks the very blood out of good people such as himself. He vowed that he would pay the hideous monsters of greed and gluttony his food money no more. He set out to find a pirated version of Illustrator. That's when his computer screen flashed violently and an elderly creature who dressed like a monk sprung forth from it. He advised our friend not to succumb to the wicked ways of piracy, and offered him Inkscape as a suitable alternative. After days of learning and using it, the artist discovered the enlightening truth: Free software IS actually .. rubbish. "Screw that Gnu, I'm cracking Illy," he mumbled.

I know, I know..it's rather corny. But hey, that's what comics are for. No? http://blenderartists.org/forum/images/smilies/sago/confused.gif

Phew, managed to squeeze my entry in just minutes before the deadline. This is about the first time in my life that I felt fortunate to be living in a GMT+4 time zone. It isn't as finished as I would've liked it to be, but at least I didn't throw away three weeks or so's worth of work :dunno:

Also check out the first post. I've finally added the story ;P

The image is awesome and the story is almost better, LOVE IT.

Thanks mr_carl. Yes I did use inkscape to create this image. In fact, this is the idea behind the story: self-mockery :)

That inkscape may not be industry standard but it does it's job. Great work dude. especially with the lighting.

Well, this was my first experience with vector art, so I'm not quite sure I'm qualified to judge the program :dunno:. But if I have to I'd say it was pretty smooth and newbie-friendly. It also has an adequate feature set, although I've read that it misses the Gradient-Mesh tool from Illustrator, which allows the user to make custom shaped gradients instead of only linear and radial ones.
