Hello,
It is my first competition and one of my paints in technique matte painting.
Upload a few initial photos from my paint, who i made on the competiton.
First my assumption was create simple picture with the gate in the background but
I decided to create something more compicated and to implement a bit of atmospheres in the fantasy climate :) .

Cheers!!!

whoah man, be careful, your using elements from Dylan Coles mattepainting... that wouldn't be advisable...

But besides that your headed the right direction just change tower elements you have in the background along with a few of the forest parts since its very noticeable Dylan Coles'

If you add too much more to the foreground, you're going to lose your perspective on the gate. As it is, if I were a person standing at the location of the "camera," and if I were to move close to the gate, the windows and doors on it would be huge.

It's a hard image to work with. There are too many elements like the windows and doors that make it so you have to remain fairly close to the gate in order to maintain perspective. If those windows and doors were not on the gate building itself, then it would be easy to make it as large or small as we would like. The actual gateway opening wouldn't have to be a specific size without those elements in the picture.

It's starting to look pretty good. It might be me, but part of the waterfall seems to just stop in mid-air. ;)

I can't wait to see how you accomplish turning this into a night scene.

jfmgraphics is right, your loosing too much perspective here. All the elements seems to look like they are on a different space from the main gate. Your lines and peaks should be skewed to the top like your plate, but that can't bee seen on the image.

Technically your doing well with placing the elements, your also covering up/changing the mountains from dylan coles work (although there are still a few left: upper right). This is somehow is turning up great hope to see this one finished soon...
