The Lava Baron
I decided it was high time I did some decent renders of some of my older models , so tonight all threads you see marked as 'Clay Render Night' were setup and rendered in a single night from 7pm to 11pm from older models.(..as I'm an impatient sort of bloke lol.)

A couple of guys over at mudbox hub asked to see some of the textures I've painted for this model that never got used and that I rejected for various reason...At teh bottom is the last one I did that I decided didn't fit the character at all..green just isn't 'him'.
The only other one shown here (there is another buts its crud so I'm leaving that off lol) just lost too much detail done ages back and rejected...so the hunt is still on for a texture for him.

The lava texture is no good because it hides so much detail. The green is better, but the texture itself lacks detail, so it masks the detail in the model and makes it feel boring. But the model itself is pretty good. There are some pinches here and there that almost look like mesh errors, but overall, this has a lot of potential. If I were you, I'd really work on finishing this one, textures and all. Sometimes it's easy to get concepts for textures by taking a clay render into Photoshop and painting over it in a new layer set to blend with Multiply. It allows you to quickly change hues and tones in order to see what direction you want to go before actually ever painting a texture.

As I said these were the disgarded ones that some uses wanted to see, although its worth baring in mind these are game res and not high poly sculpts. Can you point out the areas of pinching please?
My priority now is basically get as many of my old models rendered out and archived ready for the next job lot of wip's. Its also the reason I'm doing very little in the area of revisions at the moment on any of the recent old models I've posted. With my daughter being born today I wanted to get as much stuff 'done' as I could so I could take a few days off . :)
