Slulburn, Focus on the curves, not the wireframe when looking at a model. I find them useless.

Spent 5 minutes mocking up how i envisioned the Upper body proportions but anybody that knows me knows my concepting abilities are dog **** so the actual 3D will look Significantly Different apart from the proportions.

Yep a bit dodgy at the moment. Early days though, Gotta work out the Robot Joints for it all but he will have 3 Fingers and a Thumb thats for sure. Even the machines wan't to have a bit of fun crushing the Demons throats.

I have to agree though with the sketch concept not being as 'powerful' as it could be. Bulk him up some! :) Have you thought about maybe having him more like a hunchback character of form so the head is more at the front...I think with a pointy head like that it would suit him more. If I could think of an example I would...but I can't :)

Some speedy work so far, looks very badass. Think some big, sharp mechanical claws would go well with your design.

Dunno if it was a concious decision or not but the little smiley face on his helmet always makes me smile :D

For the arms i did, but not the head or chest. thats just modeling as i go....for any joints though i gotta be very careful. ran into some big problems with hadron because of not taking care of the joints...so best to sculpt these areas.

I humbly submit my paintover for your knee design. It should continue the spike curve look not add a dumpy round joint element.

Anyway, yore modelling tutorials are really great and I recommend everyone to have a look at them it really helps allot.

Thanks Warbringer, Tank, I'd say hes a mix of a ton of different iconic characters, im pretty much a huge fan of anything scifi so just from memory i will be adding these elements in.

Have done some adjustments to the Cloved feet. Definately keeping them, they just look like **** in block mode, but the high poly will be very different :)

Looking sweet Sathe, although the legs (to me) don't look very efficient. Running would be a pain. If I can think of exactly why, or how I would make it more impressive I would tell you, but I just can't put my finger on it. Basically you have 3 equal length limbs though between pelvic and floor...thats a lot of machine and weight to be moving quickly. ANd to me it looks like speed is his game.

Although I was thinking it WOULD look cool is if he ran he ran on all fours...like a panther. Or something. Somewhat of a transforming bot.

I also think he need wings/blades coming out of his back to give him some overall presence.

That said however you have a MIGHTY strong start.I wouldn't want this guy to be coming after ME I'll tell you that much...as much as I would go 'Hey COOL!' first...and THEN run like hell.

Wow man you're really moving along, at the rate you're going you'll be done long before the end! The only thing I probably would have done is made his shoulders wider to make him look a little more imposing. Regardless though, I think it looks great, keep it up.

Lergs must be bent like this as this is how i see the demons looking however when i have optimised and done the high poly they will look much more efficient, thanks for bringing it up.

Maybe it's just the armor and/or legs that are throwing me off, but it looks like you could lengthen the arms a tiny bit.

The arms definitely look a little stumpy in the full body shot you posted above. Maybe try dragging the hands down to the same level as the mid joint of the legs to see if that balances things out a bit more?

Nice sathe. I think the proportions could maybe be skewed just a teensy bit, just to add some exaggeration. I also think the plating on the arms could open up a bit more, show some of the mechanical insides (like what you have on the neck).

But, man, still fantastic work regardless....at this rate, you could do two models, and then just pick the best of them to submit.

the problem with exagerated proportions is functionality and as im trying to learn design i gotta stick within the rotational limits provided by a ball joint. If i just give him giant shoulders the arms will collide but at the moment the curves line up so he can swing his arm around....only just.
so maybe at the end i can play with this but right now its barely functional as is.

Mauro, love the look of the model, sharp edges, agressive look just what a machine should look like for war. The last uploads are continuing this pattern which is great, but don't let your love for the railgun de-rail you ( no-pun intented). Picture how this powerful weapon can be one with the model if passion takes over then the weapon becomes the focus and it's carrier just becomes a stand for the weapon. I would like to see some sketches, myself I'm still debating how to build the rest of the body for my model, hopefully I could get some helpfull guidance. Above all great job so far.

great work man, its look killer. i feel that his arms are too short though, in comparison to the legs. could i suggest adding another joint in the arms , for sake of continuety. (even though its a robot human proportions still come into play to help with believablity, but you know what u doing so keep it up :D)

Will hand off to the 3Dtotal lads this weekend so should be ready shortly :)

This won't be a fundamental video, just me modeling the weapon/start to finish, I will try to commentate but once I start modeling seriously it will be hard for me to focus on both things.

I will not have a concept or reference, but instead do it how i do it always, start with proxy piece and model from that.

I still think that the arms should be longer though. How is it supposed to catch mushrooms or feed bunnies with such short arms? How is it supposed to caress the head of cute demon children while they run around him in circles screaming "you killed my father, murderer!!!" just a split second before their little horned heads are pulverized by Mauro's railgun.

Hey there! Let me first say that your doing an awesome job! I really love this design. Not sure what it is but that bleeding of blue on your model looks amazing! I see it used on alot of designs but yours uses that design to a perfection.
That being said... I am no design artist by any means but something about his lower body really, REALLY takes away from your model. The top is so sophisticated and orginal looking and then at the bottom we got the basic AT-ST walker, or minotaur legs. I feel since you haven't down that fair perhaps take a few mins, sketch out another few styles. If they don't work for you then go ahead but I think theres something more you can do with the legs.
If ya can't find something I would highly suggest just fixing the area where the florescent tube connects the upper leg to the lower as this is a major weak spot on the character and takes him from looking mennacing to very vulnerable.
You don't have to take the advice, again i'm no design artist, but I feel it will defiantly take your design to a whole new level. Great job again man and I tip my hat to ya.

My only critique is how 'busy' the design is. There's alot going on in there and the eye doesn't really know where to look. Of course, that might very well clear up once you get further along and get colors more worked out, etc.

B, but i'd make it longer and put in some kind of cooling system. railguns irl tend to get really really hot. as in, the barrel is useless after about 1 or 2 shots.

Yeh lower is for cooling. and the sides. every time you see one of those circle discs with the holes indented around them they are pumps to push air in/out of places.

Mockup pose looks kinda weak. My first thoughts are this : One, his legs are bent...no one stands with bent legs....it looks weird and off-balance. Two (and this one is probably too late to fix at this point), he has no shoulder articulation...meaning he has no clavicle and cannot shrug his shoulders. That makes the raised arm look akward. You could fake it by tilting the whole torso upward toward that arm. The ability to raise (or shrug) the shoulder is really important to good posing and is far too often overlooked....especially in articulated/robot characters... not to mention its usually really hard engineer the articulation

but, uh, he's a HECK of a lot bigger than i would have thought. i had him figured to be human-sized, and more or a stalker/hunter. now that he's so big, i kinda feel like he would be the kind of robot to play with his prey. like a cat.

so, for his pose, you could stand there a bit more relaxed. you know, as if he were saying: "do whatever you want, im still gonna pull your arms off, later."

now, its more like a big, scary assualt unit. not that it's bad thing. just not what i had expected.

He is just meant meant to be a giant Revenge unit. not really to "cripple" the enemy more so just torture them and cause as much pain as possible. He is a fear unit.

coming along real nice sathe, I wasnt too sure about the feet design when seen alone, but in combination with the lower leg armour, its looking very nice indeed :) looking forward to seeing the completed high poly :D and to see how you plan to texture this big guy to really make those details jump.

Hey Sathe, digging the feet a lot. I'd widen the stance of the legs....right now his relaxed pose looks pigeon toed and bow legged. I'd set the feet wider apart. The only thing I don't feel right about stylistically, is the head. It looks too flat in the face for the rest of the concept. I dunno why it's bothering me but if you find the time and have a couple other concepts in mind, I'd explore them. Keep it up....wish I could model as fast as you.

Hey I don't want this to sound noob or anything, what are you using to get the glow? Is it set up in your shaders? I know you can do it like that in maya but I havn't played around with shaders in a long time and a quick refresh may be in order.
