I haven't spent much time yet on the concept, but here it is. His name is Koll. The demons enslaved the people of his homeland, but he managed to escape with the aid of an ancient warlord named Thorgard. When Thorgard saved Koll he taught him how to use magic. Koll still prefers to use a sword, but when out numbered by his enemies he will use his magic abilities to even the odds.

When Koll escaped slavery he managed to steal a powerful sword from one of the demon princes. The sword is called Asmodeus's Wrath and it has the power to banish demons to purgatory for eternity.

Koll has vowed to kill every last demon and free his people.

Not much of a background story, but it will do for now.

And the heroes name is Konan the barbarian :D

Banish the demons back to hell from whence they came. Neat concept, maybe the sword could be holstered at his hip - could make a more interesting silhoutte from other angles.

Cracadoo - Conan? Really? Yeah, I guess he does look like Conan. I'll have to correct that a bit. thanks.

Joseph - Thanks for the crit. I still haven't concepted out a pose for him. Maybe I'll have him wielding the sword.

I have some catching up to do. I finally had some spare time to really think of a good concept and I decided to switch to the demon category.

His ribs are made of larvae and there's one larvae on the back of his head that will be attached to his brain. Also, I might incorporate some spiderwebs on his skin. Hopefully I can spend some more time on it this weekend....I have a loooong way to go.

Spiderweb-like things on the skin might work better. Great concept.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here's an update.

I focused mainly on his skin tonight, then I started sketching smoke coming from his head and thought it would be cool to show demon souls escaping in the smoke. I'm not too happy with his glove\gauntlet and I feel that the smoke is too strong. Just brainstorming ideas at this point. I'll post another update tomorrow.

I'm unable to post new images and two pics have disappeared from the thread completely. Does anyone know what's going on?

They just switched servers, and I think the image attachment isn't working. With the switch, some images may have been lost.

Still having problems uploading files. I hope this works.

I started sculpting. Currently I'm working on the look of his skin since its a very important aspect of this character....not sure how I'm going to do cobwebs yet though...

The maggots on his chest and ribs are looking good, but I haven't touched up the maggots on his arms yet. It would be cool to have an animated normal map where the maggots are crawling around I think.

here's the latest concept:

Great stuff I love the concept! Like a mouth in his stomach :)

One thing to keep an eye on is how the bicep should wrap around the arm under the pectorals. Currently you have the bicep inserting between the chest and the shoulder, but the chest should be inserting between the shoulder and the bicep

Great stuff so far keep it up!

Jensen - Thanks for the tip! Good thing I left the maggots on a layer, because I knew I'd have to make anatomy tweaks. Thanks for the anatomy chart.

A quick color block in of the head. I'm jumping ahead a bit, but I want to make sure that I'm going in the right direction. The veins will glow in the final version.

that's looking pretty sweet! I would do those spikes with an alpha map maybe. It would suck to have to lose them.

If you wanted to be really creepy (and after the comp) you should make the maggots move over his skin.

You read my mind. I was thinking an animated normal map would be cool.

Thanks. Yep, I was thinking alpha too. I might just alpha the plates on his head with the spikes included.

I'm sculpting the high res first then I plan on creating 10K poly version to match. I've never done it that way before, so this will be a first for me. So far I like the freedom of sculpting, but I'm sure it will be a beyatch creating the 10K version.

looks great. i would work on the stomach area a bit to make it seem less flat and more trenched for the glow and the feeling of a deep cavity.

Alright, back to sculpting. I've added the brain sucking larva to the back of his head that feasts on his brain. The wings are next.

great stuff man, really selling it with the steam/smoke outta the mouth. I almost wanted that to actually be coming out of the gaps between the head plates, like a brain made of hate and lava?

SeveredSon

Thanks Darbruce. Here's a shot of his back. I've scribbled out a few ideas. I think I'll make his spine exposed.

brain sucking larva = television. the back end looks more like a helmet than a creature burrowing into one's domepiece.
