Yup..saw it last night.
The highway scene is incredible! - As well as the fight scene with Neo and the Agent Smiths...thought they did an excellent job with the compositing throughout the movie.
And like you said, the whole conversation between Neo and the architect dude just blew my mind. Heh I definitely wasnt expecting all that theory/philosophy behind the Matrix.
Cant wait till this fall. :D

Haven't seen it but these guys are usually right. Good effects don't make a good film.

Yes, you're right Incitatus, but I think the first part was genius, and I hope the second will be as good, as the first one, or better :)

Dont let biased movie reviewers influnece how you feel about the film before you see it. Its not an oscar film, granted but it is good.

Absolutely.
There isnt much I hate more than people who start threads just to tell everyone how much [insert movie] sucked, how they should've done this, how they should've changed that, etc on and on..
Then they provide a list of online critics who generally manage to find every possible negative comment about a movie (especially a hyped one like this) to support their argument. :grr:
Bleh..it made me sick reading so many of these kinda theads on a different board when Two Towers came out.
I personally thought Reloaded was awesome and would only urge people to see the movie themselves to formulate an opinion. :)

hmm I think you're missing the point of that review. It wasn't meant particularly against the Matrix. Matrix reloaded was used as an example to show a bad bad trend in cinamatography. Movies are starting to look like CG demoreels. I can't remember the last time I saw truly great acting or a intricate and clever script. These are the things that make movies great. CG is a tool like a stage prop. Except perhaps in the case of Gollum but I think that was an exception and not the start of a new trend.
Example; Casablance
Rick: Ah, Gestapo spank.
Chief of Police: My dear Rick you overestimate the influence of the Gestapo. Here in Casablanca I am lord and master.
*Bartender walks in*
Bartender: Major Strasser has arrived.
*Chief of police moves to walk out*
Rick: You were saying...
*Chief of police gives a wry smile*
This is simply brilliant in it's apparant simplicity. When is the last time you saw just a few seconds like this mean so much and acted to perfection.
These are the things being lost due to the abuse of CG. CG is a powerfull tool but in my view it is being horribly abused.
Wheeee!!! I just saw it last night and :eek:W O W:eek: I'll have to see it again to catch everything.
"The effects were awesome and the mind bending complex Matrix maze continues to amaze."
Anyway thats what I would write if I wrote reviews :)
I have to say that the whole idea of reviewers is a bad, bad thing. People are getting paid to watch almost every movie that has ever been made - its no wonder that they have such bad reations to so many films.
Besides which they don't stand out if they go with the flow, they have to buck the trend to get people to pay attention to them.

I agree Incitatus, but it is the Matrix,
thats what its for, CG. There arent many
movies that are released that have
the oppurtunity to use so much
CG and be able to get away with it.
Granted maybe scripts these days could be
better, but dont bog down on a movie
because it has a lot of CG. Especially the Matrix.

Yeah I completely agree Incitatus. The overuse of bullet time in action movies after The Matrix was released was prominent, and, like you said, used to kinda make up for poor acting/script or whatever.
In my statement, I wasnt specifically referring to the review you mentioned or limiting it to The Matrix Reloaded..
Just had to get a rant off my chest. :D

Matrix 1 was great. But matrix 2 sounds almost like an excuse just to show of some more CG. And for me, well I think it'll be quite some years before anything beats Gollum. Lol I just can't get over him. gollum for president!!11

Yes the effects were amazing, the movie itself was ok, but could have been better.
The only effect that to me seemed 'bad', not that I could do better or even close to as good as it was, was some of the fight and flying scenes with Neo.
Did anyone else notice that they used a 3d character model of neo for some of these scenes?
While the model itself was good, the texture on the face seemed, well flat. Not realistic enough :p
first of all.... when they made the first matrix the did intend to make a 2 and 3, to prove this you'll notice in the first matrix while neo is being intereagated by Agent Smith the first shot u see of neo in the room... is on a wall that has heeps of televisions on it, that if u have seen the second one was exaclt what was surounding neo when he was talking to the 'source' or the Arcticte that created the matrix. so Incitatus Matrix reloaded wasnt just an excuse to make more CG... also i dont know any stunt man that can do half the stuff the CG neo was doing at the speed he was doing it, even with todays props and other special effects its not physicaly posibale for a real person to do it.
What the 'source' said to neo, i think was the most indeepth detailed speech.... wich must of had alot of thought and time put in to it by some great writters i appreciate that.
i cant wait until neo and the 'source' meet again.
they may have gotten a bit carried away with so many agent smiths... well not that there were so many, just that they didnt die when he through them half way up a building and then they crashed through a park bench... kinda struke me as odd even for an agent.
and i think its disapointing that neo doesnt use guns now because of his "stopping power"
but his awesome mortal combat skills make up for it, i loved it when he started to use that pole with the agents, im gonna try that later
well agent smith isnt n agent ne more ... so u would expect that he would be different from agents wouldnt u?
i also loved the bit where he was using the pole against the smiths...tho i think it would hav been better if he flew out of em when they were stacked on him

I went and saw The Matrix, again, second time around is ok,
but it allowed me to really take a look at what is cg and what isnt.
During a large part of the Burly Brawl Neo is very noticabilly cg
and some of the flying scenes. And some of the ligthing could be
changed to fit more seamlessly, all in all its still a good movie,
Well I like it.

I am going to see it and DAM am I looking forward to it! I also noticed the CG in the fight with Neo and 100 Agent Smiths. When he is running around the pole you can see that the movement is too perfect for him and also the material on his coat reflects the light wrong (if it reflects it).
Oh, and have any of you got channel 5 in the UK? Cos they are showing The Animatrix and boy does it rock! Its made by those guys that did Final Fantasy: The spirits within. The movement is so perfectly done, it's so realistic! They even have veins in the guys arm pulsing. And the lighting......well......you can kinda catch my drift cant ya?
