View Full Version : DWIV - 3D - bap2921 - Abomination

My portfolio could really use some next gen game art with zbrushed normal maps and high poly counts. Most of my personal and professional work has been low poly with hand painted textures, so I'm jumping into Dominance War this year to push my creative abilities as far as they can go.
Here are some quick lunchtime concepts I've worked up over the past week. I plan to create an abomination creature- humanoid, but horribly deformed. More detailed/fleshed out concepts to follow.

Started refining the ideas/initial images a bit. I'm starting to move away from the two headed abomination, I felt it was looking a bit too awkward, clumsy and lacking any real character. I still need to flesh out the details but the image below gives an idea of where I'm heading.

these ideas have since been reworked, but I'm posting them anyway for progression reference. The above post is a more accurate representation of the character I'm designing.

The handarm thing at the bottom is awesome - it'd take alot to get looking right but it's look nice if you could add that to more places.

I like the second post, his attitude is excellent :)

Thanks guys for checking out my sketches and posting some feedback.
I've been a bit lazy on the updates, mainly due to lack of time and my reworking/refining of the character. I modeled out the character that has the giant claw hand, but it felt way too similar to Tyrant from RE- I decided to scrap the idea.
I went back and worked on the armor designs a bit and fleshed out the overall look of the character. Things have been going a lot better this time around and I have a clear direction of where I am going with the sculpting.
It's hard to tell in the renders, but that's a helmet on the top part of his face and the gauntlets are placeholders right now.

Interesting so far. He looks like he is ready to "give it" to the enemies.

Didn't have too much time today, but I managed to squeeze in a few hours refining the shape of his greaves and 'weapon'.

Finally started adding details to my character; mainly his mask right now.

forgot to add the pic in the previous post.

A little bit more detailing to go on the helmet.

The helm and cock piece are finished right now at this sub D level. I may increase the resolution and smooth them out in some areas, but that all depends on the amount of time I have left after finishing the body sculpt.

nice details, might try working on the overall form a little more though

Obviously not the final color/texture, this just seemed to pop out the details the most. Also disregard the right foot, the sculpt didn't mirror correctly, so there is little detail (it will look like the left after I play with it in max). Good luck all, I know it's going to be a long, sleepless week for some of us :haha:

HAHAHAHAHA....this is going to "Raise" a lot of attention on the battlefield. Especially for the female fighters in the war.
XD hehe... though he has to be careful not to be 'beheaded'... down there... it just stands out very much, doesn't it?
Nevertheless well done on the sculpting.

Ugh! finally done. I would like to make a halfway competent post about my final piece, but I'm hungry and tired. Overall I'm happy with it, but there are of course things I can do better the next time around. Now that I'm actually getting a handle on zbrush and the workflow I'm eager to start up something else. I also need to work on my 3Dsmax rendering skills, I'm pretty noob in that department. I'll probably be back at a later day to write up a better response than this.
Good luck all.
