View Full Version : (3DS Max) Reversing Object Attachment

Basically I have been given a 3D model and originally it would have been constructed with several parts, these have been fused together and are causing a problem now it is time to unwrap the model as I have to select all the faces individually (time consuming and soul destroying!) for each part. How can I reverse this so the objects become separate again?

Many thanks for any and all help,

Regards, Jack

select the bits you want to detach and click the detach button

I understand I can do that, however the parts are detailed and have many faces which will take ages to select. Is there a quicker way? Such as an "undo all attached" operation?

Thanks, Jack

unless you can ctrl + z it, no...

You can use 'select element' to select every polyon that is welded to another, to save time..

or, you could select the other object(s),(the ones you want to keep) and then invert the selection with ctrl+i.

and of course then use detach

if memory serves you can explode an editable mesh to elements

select -> right click -> convert to editable mesh

then you'll find a button somewhere on the modifier panel that says explode
