View Full Version : THE Sculpting Challenge - 016 - Voting

The 016th Speed Sculpting Challenge final entries are in, and now it's time to decide on our 16th winner! This job rests on you guys - the participants and spectators (please see below to find out if you qualify to give a vote in this challenge!)
Here's all you have to do:
Check out the Speed Sculpt Challenge - 016 - Final Submissions (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=67047) thread
Find your top 3 favourite entries and rank them from first to third, remembering that points will be given as folllows: 1st: 3 points, 2nd: 2 points, and 3rd: 1 point
Only the rank and names are required, and we prefer the thread to be kept clean of chatter and such - although please feel free to give reasons as to why you have chosen each of your top 3, and perhaps make some honourary mentions if you wish you could have voted for more
Voting Rules and Restrictions:
In order for your vote to be valid, your post count must be 50 or above. The only exception to this rule is if you have contributed a final entry yourself to the 016th challenge
If you want to vote but are not a contributor of this 016th challenge, you need to have been registered on the Threedy Forums for at least the last six months, as well as have 50 posts already to your name.
It goes without saying that all voters must look through each of the entries before posting their score, and only entries from the final submissions thread are valid.
There can no longer be ties between competitors, so in the case of a tie, the one with most 1st place votes will be considered the winner ( in the reluctant case of no 1st place votes for either, the one with most 2nd place votes wins; in the near imposssible case of no 1st or 2nd place votes for the tie, may God help us all ).
Don't vote for yourself - it's just not that cool! And you'll just annoy the dragons.
Deadline for all votes: 24th June 12:00PM GMT+0
There is just one week to vote. We will add up all the points and announce the winner shortly after the end of Voting (or earlier if the 3DT team see it fit to end the voting sooner - i.e. if there have been no votes for over 24 hours)
Good luck to all and happy voting!

1. Darkmonk -- Really like the interaction with the base. Makes it feel like a sculpture.
2. Mr Peculiar - Nice motion here.
3. maxtx -- again, strong piece as a whole.
Tough one. I mostly went for readability and personality here. I'd really like to put my 1 and 2 at joint 1.

1: Jabberwock, Yours is by far the most fun out of all of them. Add to that it seems very original as well as skillfully sculpted. Congrats you got #1 on my vote
2: mrpeculiar, Beautiful work showing what amazing results you can get with only 8 hours of work.
3: darkmonk, I think your dragon is excellent but what I like more than that is the interaction it has between it and the pedestal. Good work!
I decided not to submit mine this time around but I did learn a great deal that I hope to apply in the next challenge. Great job everyone I can't see what else you guys can come up with!

1-Mrpeculiar-The detail and the work was just amazing for a speed challenge.
2-Dpunisher-I like the concept and the detail. Normally people wouldn't think of something that ferocious looking would be that small.
3-Paulius-st-This one was nicely done and I found it humorous.

thanks to the 3 or 4 people who voted for me.
here are my choices
1 Fellipe Lopes
2 CHAO5
3 XADA
because they voted for me.
This competition is a bit biased. I am new to this forum and already I don't really like the attitude on here. The fact that 3D Total promoted mrpeculiar's dragon throughout this competition (on the top row thumbs) is a total farse.
Weather you have done good work or not makes no difference unless an independent judge steps in to make a choice of winners otherwise it's just forum chums patting each other on the back.
It's a real shame as I like some of the people on here but I don't thinking I will spend anymore time on competition on here because the marking system SUCKS.
If the guy organising the competition places my dragon 2nd then why did I only get 3 or 4 votes. BTW thank you Freespace-3DT very kind of you.
Anyway I have said my piece.

I don't think it's really as biased as you think, Scottleroc. I voted you 2nd because I loved the pose and expression of your dragon. Because I loved it, doesn't mean others will. As such, community voting ( with certain limits that I've specified in the rules ) is an average of everyone's opinion and it has worked out pretty good so far. I really hope you'll frequent the challenges further, because you do very good stuff and it would be a loss not to have you.
Please do forward any suggestions regarding the competition ( and voting for it ) in our Suggestion Thread, and we'll leave this thread here just for voting.

This competition is a bit biased. I am new to this forum and already I don't really like the attitude on here. The fact that 3D Total promoted mrpeculiar's dragon throughout this competition (on the top row thumbs) is a total farse.
I was the one who showed MrPeculiar's dragon on the top news bar during the competition, and from what I remember it was plugged just the once. It was selected at the time during the challenge because I quite simply felt it would make a great thumbnail for the top news bar. We needed to promote the challenge, and it looked to be a suitable image at the time. And that's the only reason. No bias was taken or intended. If you think that way, then I'm sorry, but that's not how it was.
As for buddies voting for each other, we have a rule whereby you have to have been a member for a certain time period and have passed a certain vote count, which prevents people getting friends (or even themselves) to create new accounts to boost their votes. It would be a shame to stop community voting in the challenges, and I have never known an undeserving winner before, so I don't think the voting system is so bad, but it's something we can of course keep an eye on in the future, and as Freespace has said we're always open to suggestions for improvement!
It would be cool if you could stick around, especially as we have Gnomon sponsoring our latest challenge - it's a really great one to get involved in and is proving really popular! I think if you stick around, you'll find out we're not so bad after all.:)
