I've been trying to do an animated missile in 3dsmax5.1 for a short animation and I'm having some issues with rendering time..
Currently I'm using a slightly modified cylinder as the missile with a spheregizmo with fire effect for a small flame behind the missile and a superspray for smoke..
The superspray has the "bubble" preset loaded and a smoke material applied to it..
My problem with the rendering time is that one frame at 720x576 takes several hours (with motion blur on).
Any suggestions for alternate methods of making the smoke for the missile?
(I'll post a pic as soon as it's finished rendering..)

the only thing i can think of is maybe try a diffrent rendering engine, like brazil or there a quite a few good ones out there... im not sure if u can download them for free or not, [this part was removed - sorry no talk of that kind on here please. Mike-3DT]

Try using geometry for the smoke trail and map it using oppacity maps and falloff in the opacity slot; noise for diffuse... fiddle with that a little too see if itīs good enough for you.

Yeah, i think bubbles would be kinda high-poly (dunno, never played with 'em. Try using facing particles with some nice texture on em (don't know about that either :p)

Well I've been playing around with it a little, couldn't really get the look I wanted with facing particles but I did manage to cut rendering time down a bit by playing with the settings and removing a bump map on the particle material (don't know why I had that on there, it's not like you can see it..)
