Ideas for the next comp, put them here.

Transformers War
Autobots VS. Decepticons
Make up a new Transformer using your own creativity. Your creation must transform into something else. Examples: Car into robot, plane into a robot or whatever you can think of. If you want you can combine your poly count to make multiple vehicles or whatever to make one big robot. Example is the constructicons become Devastator.
20k polygon tris
2 2048x2048 texture sheets
This is just an idea. If ya dont like its cool with me. I am just throwing one out there.

Hehe. I like girls too. They had that female decepticon in Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen, who transformed into a destructive robot killing machine. You could possibly make something like that if you wanted to also. Once again, just an idea. That is assuming you guys want to do Transformers. Personally, ofcourse I am all for it. Lots of possibilities and fun, and could be a great learning experience. Especially when it comes to rigging and transforming.

two more ideas -
- make an enemy character for megaman or redesign megaman. keeping the same style from the gaming theme. so either an old classic style or the newer megaman GBA style. design heatman or what megaman looks like with heatman power up.
- make a game character into a real life character. not all characters can work. like god of war or tombraider wont work. but bomberman, megaman, mario, zelda, samus, starfox can be turned into real life characters
good example is : (art by Kyle Hefley)

First off, sorry I couldn't participate in the last comp. I loved the idea, but I got busy at work and I've been busy planning a cross-country move.
Threedy keeps running these cool little low-poly challenges, which is cool and good for practice. But why doesn't Threedy do the occasional big-time comp? Not as huge as DomWar, but something like the Unearthly Challenge...or ZBC's Comicon Challenge last year. Like I said, these little comps are good fun, but I'd like a bigger comp to sink my teeth into, and I don't want to go to another forum to do it. Or, if we could promote these low-poly challenges as bigger events rather than just a loose gathering of a handful of friends.
Oh, and Gender-Bender is a great idea (did anyone notice that NONE of those characters went from female to male?...all were male characters as females).
Also, with Transformers and GI Joe in theatres this summer, I would like to do 80s cartoon characters.

Weren't you the guy asking for a 'make a barrell' challenge last time...:D
Would be sweet though; some sort of Wacom as a prize - I could really use one of those.

Haha, yeah that was me. That was mainly because we were all burned-out from DW4.

Ok you guys say anything but Transformers. My question is why not? Do you guys think it is too hard or what?
Personally, I think its a great challenge. It requires a lot of thinking and planning, and figuring out how you want it to transform and work. In my honest opinion doing a human character competition is not as original. We have never had a contest where we had to make a model transform into another model. I think Transformers are cool. The movie is the number one selling movie in the US. Those that I am sure saw it and are 3d artists the majority of them I am sure liked it. Well, I did anyways. Personally I think if Transformers won, I think it is a great preparation for contests like Dominance War and will provide you guys with great portfolio pieces. You guys have this Gears of War like sculpting challenge going on, so I figure why not this. Making a Transformer requires some real skill, you got to think about each and every piece.
Honestly, I don't care what the challenge is. Whatever is chosen, I am in.

transforming as in transformers include animation and preferable constraints and splines. that sounds like an animation challenge rather than a lowpoly challenge.
making a transformer when it's the most sold movie in US is something that fanboys do.
having denied that idea I feel compelled to come up with something else. I like robots too so what about making any robot that are supposed to rescue people.
examples
car-cutter-bot (crashed cars usually need tools to be opened, let people out)
fireman-bot
debris-remover-bot (something that can clear debris from collapsed buildings, again let people out)
finding-people-bot (maybe a helicopter thing with night-vision and hooks)
sea-rescue-bot
medical-bot
shielding-civilian-in-war-bot (getting trapped civilians out)

simply īcuz transformers is way too boring hehehe, I know that we would learn a lot if we do such a challenge, but come on, there are others subjects that we could do and have much more fun.. but yeah, whatever is chosen I think Ill jump in...

Ok, I do think we are all fans of different things. Everyone has different taste. It's all good. I see you guys don't like the idea. So, I am just going to forget that idea, and just let you guys pick what we do.

the male morrigan is very disturbing to me....

I don't think the Tifa counts....that guys looks like a chick anyway...sans boobs
The Chun-Li worked out pretty nice though.

any other ideas, so far we only have 2, no offense tompa.
then I'll throw out the stylized idea for giggles.
I know if we get a tie, I would hate to see a gender bended transformer. I would have to call it the transvestite comp, with great prizes from ...
Joseph Pomeisl

1) boss character/enemy
2) natalie portman's shaved head - 'do you like my ponytail'......look it up
3) vehicle of some sort
4) female character of some sort
5) goblins/gremlins
6) cowboys vs Indians
7) future police
8) mecha type thing - too close to transformer?:D
9) strange little kids
10) bounty or monster hunter

sup guys, been a while.
The gender bender idea is sweet but it also is the transformer idea. You don't have to do a transformer in the overly complicated style of the new movie you can use the old style or the new cartoon style if you'd like.
I've had the idea of doing spherical worlds a la kingdom hearts space map....what do you think?
Also any female character works for me.
Well whatever its chosen I try and get something done this time.
Cheers.

Just stopping by to say "MechWarrior."
Great practice, for everyone (for rookies, for CG gurus, a lot of space), a lot of references all around the internet (including blueprints) and also perfect for any portfolio (having Sesame Street character is cool but having MechWarrior around your website? Now that is something you can argument while trying to get a job).
But hey, anything is ok for me. And now back to texturing...

the gender bender idea sounds sexy, as long as there're girls i don't care ._. girls, lots and lots of sexy girls
the transformers idea wouldn't be too bad if we combine it with the animation comp o.O

Hi guys. I just wanted to clear something up. What I meant by having your transformer transform to whatever it maybe in to robot form, I meant, you dont have to animate it, just pose it and show it rendered. I don't want you guys to make it harder than what it has to be. I mean its cool and all if you do animate it. But this is not an animation challenge, its a modeling challenge. I am going to clear this up with showing an image for all that I was thinking and looking for.

hey all,
just to toss in my two cents, we could do something like a game transistion. an object/building/character from a RTS and throw it into a FPS.
We could also do a "modernize" contest where we take characters from any media and make the useable for a current-gen game.

Agent-X : I think the main issue everyone has with doing a transformer is that they are very complicated and require a alot of engineering to make them actually transform properly. I read in an article somewhere that the Optimus Prime model in the movie had hundred of thousands of bones. Obviously a low-poly wouldn't have as many, but you get the idea - its alot of work.
Now, after saying all of that, I think making a transformer that properly transforms would be off-the-hook. I'm a tech-artist by trade, so the technical possibilities for a transformer model are truly boner-inspiring. But in order to do it justice, it would require more than the few weeks we usually get for this comp.
So, I have two suggestions for you. First, if you are so set on making a transformer, then why not just make one? You don't need this competition to tell you what to make. Secondly, if you need motivation, you could challenge someone (or a few people) to a modelling showdown.
In other news
I think the Gender-Bender idea is probably the most creative idea. It'd be awesome if we could promote the comp a bit more to make sure we get some great work. It could be a good boost for Threedy's traffic (like the SF comp over at GA).
I haven't ever properly modelled and finished a robot-mecha-type character, so I'm all for doing something like that as well....to help expand my portfolio.
