Hey all,
How do you make the surface of the object glow only where the bright light hit it, I anderstand how to do it in a still image by doing some composition in photoshop, but what I want to do is being able to have the same thing happening but in an animation.
I ve circled in red, what I m looking for, I just need to be pointed in the right direction, is it another software like an video editing software where you add you animation as an glow alpha, and just put it on you rendered movie and play with some setup or is it a special shader????
Ok thanks.

This can be done pretty easy in AfterEffects or Combustion. Just render the scene in layers, import them into AE i.e. and add a glow-effect to the desired layer. Done in minutes. Getting the same effect with almost the same quality would be a time consuming nightmare in 3D.

Getting the same effect with almost the same quality would be a time consuming nightmare in 3D.Definitely not true, there's a plugin from Cebas called final Glow that does exactly what he's looking for, which is essentially bloom. And it's very fast and accurate at adding such an effect.

Cool guys thanks, I tought it could be done with AE, but I ll defenatly try the plugin aswell, if it works with max2010
Antediluvia: Would you have the exact link where to see or download that plugin you r talking about, coz i tried to find it, but i just found different plugins but not that "final Glow", is it the "final flare" one???.

try here:

if you have probelms with google translation or so let me and i will translate.
Oh... you can achieve that without any plugin.
After Effects or any compositing app:
- Duplicate your diffuse layer
- Brigness -100, contrast 100 (decrease brighness, and increase contrast to maximum)
- Gausian blur (for example 10)
- Make blending mode to add or screen
3DS Max:
Go to render - effects... add a blur effects, in the settings of the blur effects decrease blend to 30-40, increase brightness to 100 - 150 (Freespace tip) :)

le1setreterL: Damn, how the hell did you find it..... Its just not english but who cares : )
Its weird, if I google "cebas object glow" i find it, but if I brows the cebas website to find it, its impossible.... what the hell...,
Does it work with Max 2010? and where do I download than only that plugin???
thanks

Wasīnt able to find the plugin on the Cebas site. It seems that it is part of one of these packages:
RealLensFlare II
LumaObject
PyroClusterŪ
But only PyroCluster 3.5 (for ~400) is listed in the shop. Couldīnt find a testversion neither.
@Antediluvia
Thanks for the info! Is this a post-effect or real 3D? The Cebas-page isīnt very clear about that. And sure itīs also possible in 3D, even with build in max-tools. Itīs just that I never got an equal result in 3D within almost the same time. That Cebas-plugin looks very interesting though, especially if the glow isīnt just post and visible in reflections or even illuminates the scene.

That's the way I normally do it, though the settings can depend a little bit on the scene and output render resolution

I've also covered how to do this using the mental ray Glare shader (http://www.mrbluesummers.com/?p=843) a while back. ;)

Ok, I got the chance to play with that Final Glow Plugin, and its pretty cool, I wouldnt say, its absolutly awesome, but its pretty cool, after an hour an a half, I kind of got what I was looking for.
Its not as beatifull as what Pixar manage to do : ), but I m happy with it.
Thanks everyone.
