I think we all have done it at least once in our life time. You know, you sit back in your chair and daze off, staring into the creative departments of your mind thinking up a bunch of what ifs. Like, what would this character look like as a woman or what would this character look like as a man?

Well, here is your chance to make those thoughts reality. Pick a well know character, from cartoons, comics or video games and flip their gender. So, if the character is originally a man, they need to be made into a woman. If the character you choose is originally a woman, then you need to make them a man.

The challenging part of this competition will be to keep the characteristic and feel of the original character yet still showcase the new character as its own person.

Judging:
You will pick what you believe is the top 3 entries. First place gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, 3rd place 1 point. The person with the most points when the voting is over wins. Remember, if an entry does not fill the requirements, do not vote for them.

DUE DATE: September 6th, 6 weeks and a few days from today! 11:59 pm GMT - SUNDAY

Idea:
Pick a character from either cartoons, comics or video games and flip their original gender.

Poly limit:
9,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 9,000 Tri Limit. Remember, the limit tells you where to stop, there is no minimum, so use as much of the limit as you see fit.

Textures:
(1) 2048 x 2048 texture. This means (1) 2048 for color, (1) 2048 for bump, (1) 2048 for normal, (1) 2048 opacity, so on and so forth. You can chop it up into whatever you want, but you still need to go all out in your texture.

Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do.


Pedestals/Stands:
You do not have to create one, but if you do, understand that there is no texture or tri limit. You can go as crazy as you want, or keep it basic.

Prizes: (only available with 6 or more final entries)

1st Place gets the following:
- 12-month subscription to the 2DCreative magazine
- 12-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine

2nd Place gets the following:
- 12-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine

3rd Place gets the following:
- 6-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine

Final Pictures:

Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry):

- 1 x Winning shot. This image should consist of your character depicted in its most awesome angle.

- 1 x Beauty shot of your character. Feel free to put multiple angles of your character or just one big version or your character on this page. Even better, try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the Winners' Gallery. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you.

- 1 x wire frame shot of your character. Feel free to put multiple wire frame shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you. Must have polycount included.

- 1 x texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet.

- Concept Sheet (if you have one)

A Final Entry Thread will be up and waiting around the end of the third week/beginning of fourth week. Don’t forget to submit your work by posting it in the final thread.

I have to agree with goast on this one L3X. I have seen Hellgirl done really well before but the character could really look great if someone did a rendition inspired by rather than a direct cross over.
Like Goast suggested you could do with a half jacket, definitely go with a pleather pant too.
For hair the bob is cool but if you stay with the japanese inspired topknot but go female and end up here...Ukiyo-e Style (http://www.mikimotoamerica.com/news_events/img/mog_model.jpg) but instead use Judeo Christian bling it would be badass.

I may have a go at a female version of Link from Zelda or the Joker from the 90's Batman. Depends on my schedule.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure most of us considered that at one point. It's just the nature of the industry though I think - I don't wanna sound sexist, but most interesting video game characters are men. After all, for every Chun-Li, there's 7 other male World Warriors in Street Fighter II, for example. The odds are against the ladies, I'm afraid.

Haha - sounds like an interesting problem you have there:) Though I gotta say, flipping sex appeal is probably the way to go if you don't wanna model a metrosexual. Look at Leon Kennedy for example; he's no girly dude, but there's no denying that the ladies find him attractive. If you're flipping an attractive girl, you're just gonna have to make an attractive man - you can do that without making him metro. You just gotta think like a chick...

Oh and Darbruce: I vote for Ashleigh. Army of Darkness FTW! Plus, CHAINSAW ARM! CHAINSAW - ARM. How can you go wrong?

hi all! count me in this time! nice ideas so far, feels like nothing left:D luckily, i managed to find some ideas:
is that possible to do the female version of Optimus Prime? He is a robot, but he is certainly a he:) i've never done a robot before, so i want to try myself out on this one. Or, if its not possible, i might do a male to female, because i haven't do any serious female model neither, and i need to practice.

I like Johnny Storm a lot, but he would be basically transformed in to Sue Storm.. so nothing special. (but i would like to do fire too :D)

It was originally created back in the late 70's but recently it was reinvented as a mini series. I forget her name but one of the main characters should be an excellent reference.

Gotta say I agree with that in part. I think the poly count is a tad high. For the Jim Henson contest the limit was 6k but I strived to finish my piece under a stricter limit, the whole thing came out with a little over 4k polys, so I don't think it'd be a problem if you did that. On the other hand I think it can still be considered low poly. Next gen, of course, but still low poly when compared to the sculpting and other modelling challenges. Our pieces for this contest should, theoretically, be able to work within a game, so most of the optimization you'd do within a tighter budget still applies, IMHO. I would like to participate in a stricter contest though, to model stuff for the Nintendo DS for example.

I fail to see a problem with the specs - you can use less polys and texture space if you want and if you want to puch the boat out and do something commercially viable to make your portfolio better then you're also in a position to do so.

Especially in this day and age, when platforms like the iPhone, DS and even in-browser games like Battlefield Heroes and Quake Live are becoming more and more important.

Oh, and Truman, I'd run that by someone like Big Toe first. You said you just found it surfin' the web, and I'm pretty sure you have to design your own character for these comps around 3Dtotal - it's something you should check out before you get too far into the comp...

yeh you should be fine there was a catman but he's like a really really bad batman replica so no relation to catwoman at all so should look good, if not a bit creepy (principle skinner in a catwoman outift) hehe

baking textures is fine. And as for accessories, you can put them on a seperate texture sheet, you can cut up your texture space as many times as you want.

you can do what ever you want for and with your pedestal, and remember, you don't even have to make one if you don't feel like it.

As for reusing meshes, the idea is to get practice making new stuff, so your best bet would be to crete new items, but with that said, I will not Dq someone for reusing objects.

Hey Toe - I went smaller for my diffuse map for personal reasons (don't wanna clog down my computer, which happened during D-War). I'm doing an 1536 x 1536; which to my knowledge isn't something that people do ever in video games, but whatever. It's more than 1024, but not as enormous as 2048, and more importantly my laptop can handle it fine. That's cool, right? The only person I'm hurtin' is myself, and I'm cool with that. So, I'm still within the rules...

yep still within the rules. As long as you know a 1536 map is not a game art map. Why not cut the 2048 into 4 1024's. You could a skin map, armour map, weapons map, whatevers left map. But then, I just saw your thread, it's too late for that.
