heres my concept so far. not sure if i still want to stick with this character or not, debating against a female marcus fenix.

Nice concept. A Female Marcus Phoenix would be much, much harder to pull off and would take much more time. Would be cool to see if you did go that route, but I think you want to create what you can finish. I honestly think you should think oh how we say in the animation world the phrase "KISS." :) But if you can pull off a female Marcus Phoenix and it looks good, that would be freaking awsome!

agent-x: yea i know what your saying, need to see how my next few weeks for work are looking and how much free time ill have. rather finish something than nothing. im feeling the extra challenge of doing a gears style char though.
did my marcus fenix concept, will know exactly by the end of the week what i want to get crackin on.

I'd say go with Magus, because personally I've seen way too many GoW type characters done in the last year or two. That said tho, having one in your portfolio might well be beneficial since that's what people seem to be looking for.

My vote is definately for Magus. A great character from the good old days. Too much Gears of War nowadays. While it's a great game and all, the character play has been way too over the top. Magus would allow for a lot more originality and flexibility.
For the design you have there, I would say skinny her up a bit. While I'm quite the proponent of the chunky chicks, I think thinner would fit in with Magus' body type.

I don't think making her thinner would help - her limbs are already pretty skinny. The proportions overall are hard to judge against Magus because the styles are so different - why don't you try to do the concept closer to Toriyama's art style?

the style and look of the texture i want to be similiar to what you would see in a dragon quest meets chrono trigger recreation.
