The Challenge Rules
1). Each challenge we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief can be removed and the poster disqualified.
2). You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified.
3). Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like and must include a clear and easy to see wireframe of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Wire renders/ Cell Shaded or Screengrab wireframes are acceptable. Any wireframes we cannot see correctly will be disqualified.
4). You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information can be removed and the poster disqualified.
5). Post two images submission per entry which must be no larger than 1280x1024 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 195k. 1 image for your wireframes and 1 for your clay and/or beauty renders. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images files. Images larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified.
6). The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time.
7). Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable.
8). Posting the same entry twice in a challenge is considered to be double posting and will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one.
9). The Winner must email jo@3dtotal.com to claim their prize.
10). Only 1st place can claim a prize.
11). Clay Renders are mandatory, but an additional beauty render is optional.
These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions!

Those Wotsits or Cheesy Puffs aren't orange enough. ^^;
I remember eating so many of those things when I was younger, made my breath smell horrificly, give me horrible stainy mushy fingers, and they were totally over-powering! So I scoffed them all down instead.
I think I'm going to enter this one too this week! Hopefully I'll make the deadline this time. :halo:

From your tower I wonder if I got myself enough Skips I'll be able to float all the way down.
This is cruel. Simply cruel. Trying to lose some weight here! And now I am supposed to spend 90 minutes modelling...:crazy:
I am snackaholic!

This sounds like a super cool one! And just a quick question. Can you submit a beverage as an entry?? Or would it just be an additional item in the entry?

okay, last time i had one of the last entries :o
this time, ill be the one to get the entry flow starting
its a quick entry, i chose the snack for it's shapes ;)
here is my entry, the dutch (infamous) "Negerzoen"
its a Dutch and german candy treat that had it's name "officially" changed by the parliment, because it was supposed to be racist (as a litteral translation would be negro kiss).
Though in the end it was just a ingenious marketing stunt of the main suplier of Negerzoenen.
in germany its known as a "Schokokuss"
p.s.
i cant wait to see Ferry's entry of those tasty Torus Donuts ;)

Alright.
Took me a while to figure out how I was going to tackle this one, but eventually I came up with the most effective and easy way.
I made a plane (2X2) and extruded the outer edges. Then applied two bend modifiers. Also a Shell modifier, a Turbosmooth with 4 iterations, two noise modifiers, and a UVW Map modifier.
I placed the crisps using Reactor. I hope you like it. :)

thad why dont u just use 4 plane with a mask. u spend so much time and did a very high polygon for a popcorn box lollll...
thad why dont u just use 4 plane with a mask. u spend so much time and did a very high polygon for a popcorn box lollll...
i thought about doing it with nurbs at first but i settled for polygon (did 1 round part and then copy/pasted it), it took about 5min to do the box, and i do enjoy moving vertices. the good thing about it is that i used the faces for the shader so no mapping there.
the popcorn itself gave me a hard time and i endedup setteling for what you see there, its not great i´m aware of it. :grr:
i seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I was just eatin some fries so i decided to make a little scene of it hahahaha
I dont wanna be a part of this competition it was just for fun.

My first entry in a LOOOOOOOONG time.
I've since changed from max to maya :O
And of course, I haven't a clue about lighting in maya, and am pretty terrible at using hypershader at the moment :} alas, here is my entry.
It took a RIDICULOUS amount of time. All up a little over an hour. The problem was I made the mesh flat, and then folded it together. Of course, the reason I did this was to get it as accurate as possible. The model is actually to scale :} hehehe. Also, it would've been too easy just doing a box.. :p Stupid idea :} but I learned a few things.. :p also, I should've unwrapped BEFORE folding.. would've been A LOT easier. OH WELL!!
Took ~60min in Maya 2009. Software render. Crappy lighting. Meh texture :} Also, I've got no idea how to do a nice clay render in maya, but I tried :)
