Hi all.

I started a few weeks back picking up 3ds max, i am working trough some tutorials, but i am stuck.

3ds dont want to do what stands in the tutorial.
I am here
(This is from the 3DCreative feb 2009).

i start to create a arc/center-end-end/ go spline-select- mirror and copy/connect 2 top vertex-weld-fuse/go extrude(4meter)/convert mesh to poly/create copy and turn 90 degrees.(this made the top picture).
Than i need to select one of the meshes and apply a Pro Boolean operator, click on the start picking and select the second mesh.
But when i do this i get a total diff thing.
Does some1 see where i go wrong.
I hope i didnt write it to short, hope somebody can help me.
Thanks in adv Lonegunner

Instead if having union ticked in the parameter section try subtraction or intersection.
You just need to change settings to get different thing happening.

You could also try adding a shell modifier to each arch as the boolean is probably breaking because the model is only single sided instead of being a solid construction

Thanks will try that, but do you think they made a faoult in a tutorial in 3dcreative, because in the middle picture if you look at the bottem right of the max you can see union arc1 union arc 2.
and wats the ditt between proboolean en a normal boolean.

I don't have max and I don't know probooleans, but I can imagine that it might work when you flip the normals of the editable poly objects.

booleans never work at the best of times. But anyways, you can use your existing result you just have to use a few more tools.Take all the faces that exist on 1 side and extrude them,go to side view and after they are extruded make sure they are at 90 degrees because they may want to extrude at an angle upwards.Do this to all sides. Now use the slice tool to get the ends nice and straight.Delete all unwanted faces and your done.

as to boolleans,I`m pretty sure you need a closed object for it to work correctly, you have open objects so that may be why it didn`t work properly.

I will try youre way, thanks in advance, wil try to made it a closed object, and otherwise i made the arc on a diff way.
But it seem so easy in the tutorial, why dont give they al the info in the tutorial.
