I like #4 as well, but #2 looks cool also. #2 looks like it has a little dinosaur in it, especially the tail. Might be interesting if you can flesh it out a little more.

nr 2 looks unique, almost like it hatched in spore.

did some more descriptive designs of bug 2 ... i'm thinking the pointy head makes it seem more agressive so will go with number 2 most likely

I agree that #2 looks more aggressive but there's something about #1 I really like... I think it might just be the fact that the rounder head makes it flow better with the rest of the design, at least to me.

I have to agree that the head from #1 flows better with the rest of the body. 2 looks nice, but I like the first better.

hehe i actually started and almost finished the highpoly for design 2 (shown below) but im having trouble as the normals and ambient maps aren't being created properly, full of errors so may go back and rethink it with design 1

Just remember you can't use normal maps for this competition :(

It looks great so far. Can't wait to see the color scheme you have for it.

had a go at design 1 aswell really indecisive about the 2 designs, i think ill see which one converts to better light maps etc then decide from there

silverflame: He looks great so far. My only suggestion would be to push the mouth in more before you do the light map, just to get a bit more out of it. Not too much so that you end up with all dark though.

Great progress. Keep it up!

Cheers~

yeh i know i cant use normal maps but you can burn them into the diffuse to add extra detail but it doesnt seem to be going very well both are being generated with a ton of errors that i cant figure out

Read like the first few post in either comp thread, ToE is very specific about what kind or maps are allowed.

You can bake your normals into you maps so you can still get some nice details, it just the way this comp is set up, xxxcubanxxx.

Cool bug by the way, silverflame.

I guess I'm just used to it, since pretty much every other competition has allowed them, but I guess I was wrong. :blah:

so... what kind of errors? did the seems show upon converting the normalmap?
(eg desauturated layer, normal-2-cavity, zmapper-cavityRender)

was it just projecting errors maybe

nah loads of stretching errors etc big blocks of the map not translated, but zmapper seemed to work which is surprising based upon the mirrored uvs so ill crack on now some time this week, next step is adding colours etc then it should be about done.
