I'm [I am] still undecided on which competition I want to enter. I'll have to make this decision by this evening.

¶I'll start sketching and brainstorming now. It looks like a ton of fun ideas are out there already.

Idea 1: The Grammar-Gun Mk 5000

"You fools! That last run-on sentance could had cost us all our lives, and the way Jones has been throwing around adjectives is just dangerous. Good thing we were equipped with the Grammar-Gun Mk 5k or we would all have been doomed. Now Smith scan our conversation for spelling mistakes, we aren't out of the woods yet people."

Idea 2: Rocket Launcher Revolver

One of my weapon ideas for an old model I did (Andy Asteroid, see my unfinished un-updated gallery in my profile). I modeled the weapon, but that version of the file has since been lost, and so I need to redo it anyway. (I also have other ideas for it...)

I think I'm going with the grammar-gun. Mainly because I can't think of any insects and it just strikes me as a when on earth or anywhere else would bad grammar warrant the need for a gun?

Nice idea mate. Some old fountain pens had a lever to help suck the ink through into the reservoir, so if you could add that in as a cocking mechanism then that would be cool

I will likely opt to use an alpha on a cylinder for the pen tip instead of what is there now... it's messy and the heaviest piece there.

I would agree with your idea to use an alpha on a cylinder for the pen tip. Then use those extra tri's to add a secondary handle of some type as you had in your concept piece. Right now it's looking too much like a pen and not enough like a Grammar-Gun Mk 5k.

Looks pretty good. I like the concept. Minor nitpick, you could clean up some geometry, namely where the dial is on the side, you've left the loops you cut in for that the whole way around, you could work them out, at the very least, on the side opposite the dial. Might save 20=30 triangles, which you could then use to make some "ammo" like a few punctuation marks on alpha cards or something.

Nice idea, and clever use of the pen design.
