Heya, folks,
Guess what I do in my self-imposed lunch break, to take my mind off of....er, making comics? ;) :D
Yes, yes, backgrounds are the one part of this that I trully invest the most in, but nevermind that ;) .
Itīs just some brainless fun to vent out some stress and Iīm making up the story as I go, drawing the pannels one at a time (one each meal, give or take).
Donīt be too harsh, remember that it still beats reading "Complete Course of 3DStudio Max" īs 520 pages of technobabble while Iīm eating.  :p
Last note: This is no Watchmen, or Sandman, so donīt expect the ultimate comics experience; as I said, I just decided to start drawing sequentials instead of random drawings when Iīm munching muh corn flakes.
Edit:
Fresh News:
Somewhere between pages 4 and 5, Epyphany struck me and I already know where I wanna take this lilīstory.
(Thatīs the main reason why I actually went back and started coloring them pages) :)
An interesting development for someone who was contemplating killing off Silversparrow Jr. here in her first superhero assignement and dropping the ball to her big sisterīs park (Yeah, yeah, I can already hear you screaming: "- Starman!!)
Not I KNOW where I wanna take this short superhero tale, prob is how to get there.
Thatīs usually the fun part .

Well, I donīt know if Iīll be big but Iīm definitelly getting large; all these hours sitting drawing/Photoshopping without doing exercise canīt be good.

you are obviously very talanted, but we all now that from before dont we :)
only crit i have is that the strip seems kind of boring to me...i think what kills (maybe a bit harsh...but, oh well) it for me are the backgrounds, cus most of teh characters are very nicely painted, but the bg lack very much. also it seems you got some crazy mix of styles in there which also makes it hard to really enjoy the excelent linework!
this really comes forth in your last submition tho, where the line work isnt bad (although not as good in teh previous ones, imho), but the coloring ruins it.
anyways, keep going, practice makes perfect as they say, i only wish i practiced more :P
edit: in the first pic, the ceiling is very nicly rendendered, very nicly indeed, but then when you come down to the wall its just a plain solid color...this wouldnt be bad if the ceiling was the same way... stick with one style for the background, which doesnt have to be the same as teh characters as this helps bring them out, but something you may want to keep in mind. :)

Heya, folks, thanks a lot for the input :).
I really appreciate any comments you can spare, otherwise how will I know what Iīm doing wrong, right? :)
Thanks, IDownupI, Iīm glad you like my stuff :) .
Youīve hit the nail right in the head, Evil Radish, Iīve been extremlly sloppy with the coloring work of these pages and it shows.
Guess itīs one thing to pencil these pages at the dinner table and geting them all dirty with food stains and another completelly different to bring the same laid-back approach to the coloring stage.
Aaaaand I decided, due to time constraitns, to go back to depict Jessie Wright/Witt/Childers/Ryderīs baptism of fire in B/W Format instead of the extremelly time consuming coloring approach, hope ya folks donīt mind it :) .
Anyway, enough yapping, hereīs a new one :
Outstanding! You draw and color like a monster  I really like the back light in the second page. But i think most girls you draw have the same face. Itīs something topic of comic drawers. But topics exists to breakeīm.

Heya, RBL, thanks and thanks for the heads up, I guess I do end to stick with certain patterns, eh? :)
Iīll try to look into that in the future .) .

I just canīt sit still today, can I?
This baby took me 2 hours and 10 minutes, but I have to say that pannels 1,2,3 were partially designed last night over dinner :).

Mr. Busybee strikes again :) .
Is anyone keeping track of these production times? I canīt think anymore, I close my eyes and only see stacks of machine type paper... my Muse has me and no red pill will wake me up from her titanium embrace.
Oh, well, who said mental balance was a pre-requisit to be an artist anyway? :D

Thanks, ClAyMan. Silver Sparrow isnīt meant to be published, itīs just something Iīm drawing for the fun of it, to recharge my batteries after a marathon doing...........well, comics (Someone. Kill. Me. Now). :)
A.I., Mike? Moi? Whatever gave you that idea? Excuse me one moment...- Dave... what are you doing with that memory block, Dave?:D :D
Been kinda lazy today, just staring at the walls and cleaning up my Dungeon of Doom, but managed to crack some more work (most of it done last night anyway.... gawd, this heat is hideous when it comes to torpedo oneīs creativity...)
Geez, do you IMAGINE the trouble I went through to create a fancy name for the reactor? I thought of Hypermater... but there already IS Hypermatter. I went for Hyperlight, Metamatter, Metalight, Negmatter, I tell ya, ALL the good names are taken.
Good gried!
Oh, well.....
Iīd to do a double comic page 4 the illustration class and the more dificult part is the page desing, the drawing part isnīt too much complicated. But believe me, comic making is more dificult than it looks
EliseuGouveia
04-06-2003, 10:13 PM
Yeah, thereīs a big difference between just doing a pin up where one has free reign over a canvas to do whatever it pleases and doing a comic page.
In a comic page, you have to work balance into everything, from pannel layout to dramatic perspectives to action sequence to pannel disposition to even slight things like leaving room in the pannel so the characterīs head leaves room for the word balloons and so on.
And worst yet, the final assembly must be visually appealing to the reader.
A really filthy bsiness, I telly ya
Thereīs no use in making two SUPERB pannels if the reader canīt make the transition from one to another and imediatelly acknowledge seamlessly the action flow.
It takes practice, practice, practice, Iīve been doing this for over 15 years and I still feel like a toddler every time I grab a pencil.
Urrgh!

in these latest ones it is sometimes a bit har do see wahts going on, but on the whole, and as i have said earlier, you are really good, i quite like how the story is evolving, although im a bit lost :D
one question, are the pages in the right order or just thrown out in a random confusion. id just like to know if i am actually fallowing the story the way its supposed to be :P
keep going, i want to see more!

Hi, Evil Radish, youīve got a point there, storytelling broke pace a couple of times back there.
The pages are in the correct order though, so no prob there :) .

Why'd you stop?! GAH!!! I WAS SO INTO IT!!! I almost started crying when there was none left to read and look at. Oh and Hi, I am new. And I have an idea, maybe in later pages/issues of this her sister and her have a major battle, and you make sudden hints that lead to this...:???:

Thanks, angryjew, Iīm glad youīve been following Jessieīs adventures :) .
I have to apologise beforehand because these ones were done under extremelly adverse circumstances and are literally crammed with anatomic inconsistencies since I didnīt have time to double check or second guess (i.e. I literally made them while I sat in the middle of the clash of Hurricanes Alicia and Erica;
yup, my 3 and 4 years old nieces came by today and how the house is still standing is a mathematical improbability scientists will be studying for years to come...)

eeek, I cant wait, tingling sensations happen when I read this comic, its just great! Since this is an "open source" comic I have an idea, what if after (if) she defeats major evil, it turns out that that is just a "shell" and after it break he transforms into this giant 100 ft. thing, and then she has a major fight with him and thats all i have thought of. but GREAT WORK!

11-06-2003, 07:22 AM
doctor evil...a bit cliche perhaps ;)
other than that its really good, the story is quite good and so is the artwork, one problem with, uh is it sheet 20? dont know, anyways, the one where she is tearing up the top of the van, her bodie seems twisted a bit too extremly, doenst look like she has much bone to speak of :p

11-06-2003, 09:15 PM
Hyea, guys, thanks, itīs great to see youīve been following my Silver Sparrowīs little adventure.
A giant 100 ft thing? Well, that sounds neat, but time has started looming over my shoulder in the last couple of days, so Iīm gonna have to close the box on this one really fast -10 pages more tops, a couple for all out fighting but most of them primarilly for closing loose ends. Canīt deviate much from the loose guidelines I set for this lil story.
Major Evilīs a īlittleī cliche, you say, Evil Radish? Well, Iīd say itīs ALL cliche, really :D .
I wanted someone Dr. Doomish looking and all my creative resources went into creating his visual, so when time came to give īitī a name, it was the first thing that popped on my mind - and at least I can say it worked better that the last time I did something like that ( yes, I can safely say that giving birth to a Dr. Dinossaurus at 10 years old isnīt exactly the pinnacle of my creative moments :) ).
That pose was kinda sucky, but hey, it was either doublechecking the anatomy on that one or monitoring what my nieces were doing with matches/running around with scissors. :D
Well, anyway, these Silver Sparrow vacations sure have been all fun and games, but itīs time to get back to life and start doing some ACTUAL work, so, Iīm gonna have to close the box on our Jessie gal in a few pags. :)
So, ready for Silversparrow: Skydancer , round #3?
GO!

Hey, thanks, RBL.
Mikies? Now you got me curious; my english is somewhat limited, whatīs a Mikie?
Hey, thanks Angryjew, itīs true that I was doing this just for fun, but real life is threatning to rear its ugly head and throw a couple of deadlines over my head, so I thought I should end this party fast.
The Heritage bit was thrown at a last minute in my attempt to tie up some loose ends and itīs basically Silver Sparrow recollecting the very first superhero that ever lived in her world, the Skyknight who taught everyone else how to channel the Wind and thus gain superpowers.
Thatīs his heritage. :)
I was talking about The Hidden Mickey Mouses of the explosion smoke in the last page.
Something like that (http://disney.jbug.net/Joke/Max.jpg)

some small crits: when the new superhero is flying in the air and it is a close up of her face the chin is just a bit too big and pointy I think. And on the last panel, something about her knee just seems too "bendy" but otherwise. GREAT ENDING, love it you should sell it, I think it'll make some serious money with a "professional inker and painter" :) but yeah, love it. But, why did he name change to skygirl? I liked silver sparrow better, seemed less "corny" great work, like I said awesome just awesome.

17-06-2003, 03:20 AM
Hey, thanks Angryjew; :)
I wanted to exagerate a bit Gladiatrix/Princessīchin- thatīs her trademark feature, otherwise sheīd be a clone of Aunt Jackie- but I guess I went a tad overboard, sorry... :)
The name game :)
Actually, thatīs the whole point of the name switching; aside from officer Jones, NOBODY ever managed to get the poor girlīs name right :) . Nice way to go down in History....
The prob with writting this on the spot is that you end up leaving countless knots untied.
The Silver Sparrow/Major Evil connection, for one; I never managed to (clarify/find a good angle for) the mental bond they had-and it was so simple; Major Evil/Skyknight could read and ride the Wind; he knew all of its secrets; the moment Jessie girl here claimed that mantle for herself, she opened a door in her mind for the baddie to peek at.
Now I gotta find me a house for these pages so I can clear some room, my 15 Megs netspace are starting to clog.
Sigh...
