Nice sketch. Will be interesting to see how you manage with the poly count and all 6 legs but it should be ok
dhin - he he he, that's where i got my inspiration from. :) But im still thinking wut i want to color it.
Perversonality- i've thought about that. i think i should have enough polies...hopefully..lol.
Here is my update on the geometry. I might need to do yet another set of concepts showing wut i would like to do with the hair and textures.
I built this thing in zbrush using the new zpheres 2, but i found it rahter confusing and well...i gave up..lol. I did finish it off just using regular zphere to kinda of get basic mesh going on. I then took it into softimage and modeled on top of that geo. The main reason being was because the mesh generated from the zpshephere was actually kinda messy. And when i was suddiviving it wasnt giving me wut i needed...long story short i decided to start over clean. Now i just gotta uv map this thing and start sculpting i suppose...
I am stading at 990 tris. That is including the hair. I will prolly add more planes or use some faces for the face. dunno not yet.
WOW...you surely work fast XD looks amazing and i wonder how it will end up :) its gonna be kick ass for sure.

Looking f.ing cool man shaping up really nice.
thanx for the nice comments guys!
well, i am feeling a bit tired tonigth so all im going to show tonigth is my uvs. I will start working on my textures tomorow.
I have a question for anyone who migth know... how the hell do i install the subtool master in zbrush 3.5?? I got in there, it shows up in the menus but when i call it it says something about it...
I download the subtool master off the pixologic site, and the thing is NOT THERE!!( the .dll file is asking for) :( and wut sux is that i already deleted all the old junk from 3.1. I must say 3.5 behaves kinda weird...3.1 felt more stable in my opinion. Maybe is just that i havent used it enough yet.
Well..here are my updates
ur saving that top right part of the uvw for something? else its wasted space and could be put to better use..I cant wait to see wht youre gonna make of this :) its gonna be super cool i know it for sure.
Mies, yes im saving the top for the hair.
Well, here is some sculpting updates. Might need to change my low poly to follow the silhoutes a bit better but it should be ok..
Also, let me rant about zbrush 3.5....the subtool master is not compatible with it!!! Is there a way to manually duplicate and mirror subtools?

looking good neto!
Yes u can do it manually.. u must clone the subtool, mirror then apend it. But u will lose the subdivisions on the mirror step.
Looks super cool..:D i cant wait to see this on youre low poly. i wonder how it will look :)

nice sculpting dude, give us more.
Cleto- thanx for the tip, bro!
Thanx guys. Well, i put more detailing on the abdomen. Im wondering if i should put bumps and things on the top pieces of the torax. Any suggestions? Should i just leave it clean?
added a little bit of more detail here and there. I think this looks better. thoughts?

I'd make the horns at the front, the two beside the mouth, into some kind of tentacle/soft flexible looking thing, if they're rigid, the poor bug can't eat because it can't get anything close to its mouth.
Otherwise, looking really good.
warlock - yeah, i was thinking the same thing the other day. Tho, glad you pointed it out, at least im not the only one that thinks so. I migth even change the whole mouth, i dunno..
Here is an update of where im headed with the textures.
in case anyone is curious, i 1st paint my values, blue being the coldest and red being the hottest. The whole idea is that at least on the skin, this will give you a nice effect of sss because blues will be the colors around tigth areas, and the dead skin. Yellows will be the overall skin tones, and reds are the places where blood is actually noticable.
Now, with this bug, i started out wanting it to look blue, which is y it looks mainly blue. At the base color, then i baked out the poly paint into a texture and applied a layer of orange as the Hue. Then brought it back into zbrush and just applied to the mesh and kept tweaking stuff. Its kind of a long process but it gives very nice results.
Tho...once again, zbrush 3.5 biting my ass..i baked out the normal maps and they dont come out right!!!! lol. Zmapper is no longer there!! :( In a good side tho, i can now bake ao maps from zbrush! wooo!
Im very impressed with what u got sofar. im just very curius how this will look on youre model withoud the normal map..can you show us a little sneak peak on that? :)
oh man, if u get ahold of one those, let me know cuz i wanna see a sneak peak also! :)
Im not quite ready to show thatyet. I need to finish texturing, then is time to bake the textures and make a pretty render. Tonigth i basicly reworked my low poly model. i actually got it to be 999 tris!!! It was seriously kicking my ass.

Nice base model!! Good start with the polypaint also!! I just noticed that we cant use normal map.. what is a shame in your case! looking forward to see your texture bake.
I knew since we started...but since spec maps were allowed id thougth id ask bout normals. Unfortunately it was a no go.
My only concern with my model is that I got a bunch of detail on my high poly that it was very hard to retain on the low res mesh. So I'm still waiting to see what it will look lke.
With a few hours left on this challenge here is what i got
I made a new render of the insect, only cuz i couldnt stand my crappy 5 min last min compositing i pulled for this comp. Next time im gonna try to be on top of the deadline
compared to...yuck! lol
