I couldn't pass up hopping in on something so low spec. Just a single RGBA and self-illum for me.
So, its a cannon, that shoots pandas curled up in balls, not as creative as the rest of you, but I'll try to make it shine anyway.
The ground plain is part of my budget, I figured since I'm using self illum, I'd try creating a fake shadow to go with it so I won't need any lights. There's also a small sleeve on the wheels to fake shadowing since they need to be able to rotate and thus I had to be careful with how I baked lighting to them.

Cool idea mate, but it is looking a little plain right now. Not sure if self-illumination maps are allowed, but you could bake light and shadows on to your diffuse map to make it work

Ya, its terribly plain at the moment, mostly just base colors. I'll try to dress it up quite a bit more before all is said and done.
By self-illum I don't mean glow/emissive maps, I meant turning off shading.smoothing and setting the material itself to full illumination, the way you would for stuff on the Nintendo DS and other really low spec platforms. The only map I'll have should be one 512² RGBA color map. Perhaps there's a better name for what I've been calling self-illum?

I think I was thinking of a glow map rather than SI!

Perversonality, ya I guess a less confusing term would have been better huh, too many terms and variations there of perpetuated by different applications. I've also heard it called "full-bright" I think? In any case, ya, no extra maps, just color map, and no lighting/shading, all painted.
Bit of an update, got some work on done on the cannon textures, and the panda.
