Myths and Legends: Creature of Legend

Welcome to the Twentieth Speed Sculpting Challenge, and the first edition of a new, empowered breed of Sculpting Challenges. Whether you're new to sculpting, to the Threedy forums, or you're a seasoned veteran, come and join in on the Sculpting madness – there's plenty of fun and learning to be had by all!

http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww288/Freespace87/3DTotal/ssc_rules.jpg

1. The competition will run until the 30th of November 2009, 12:00 PM GMT+0 (For information about GMT click here (http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/)); the time between now and then will be allocated to creating and submitting the entries, followed by several days of judging and voting for the entries – at which point the next competition should start.

2. You will be supplying your own base mesh for the competition, from which you will start sculpting. You can create your base mesh in any application ( 3dsmax, Maya, XSI, Cinema4D, Zspheres in Zbrush, etc ) using any technique, with no limits. Do not use an already made base mesh, you must build it specifically for this challenge.

3. There is a fixed time limit for your sculpting. Do not exceed the time limit, it is part of the challenge.

4. Do not add any meshes other than those sanctioned in this competition brief.

5. You will have to supply a wireframe screenshot of your base mesh/meshes along with your final entry image ( see rule 7 ).

6. No rendering, texturing, lighting or rigging – let's keep it all about the high-res sculpt! What we are looking for is the quality of the sculpt you can produce. If your entry is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable and on topic.

7. For your final entry, post a screen-grab from your software with your finished work in it, along with your screenshot of the base meshes used ( see rule 5 ). It's fine to present this stuff nicely, with nice labeling etc., but do not add any post-production to the images themselves. These images must be uploaded to our servers by using the "Manage Attachments" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external image files. Larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified.

8. You can create multiple sculpts, but you can have only one final entry for each competition.

9. Do not create your own WIP thread. Simply post all WIP screen-grabs in here and your FINAL entry in the Final Submissions thread.

These rules apply to everybody taking part – there will be NO exceptions!

Subject: Creature of Legend

It is indeed a glorious time for the Sculpting Challenge, as we transcend into a new era for 3DTotal and for the challenges themselves. Starting this month, there will be a global overall theme that each challenge type will conform to for content or philosophy.

For us sculpters, The Creature of Legend series continues. However, this time it is your choice which legendary creature you wish to create. For a comprehensive list of such fantastic creatures, click here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures)

There is no limit on the number of basemeshes, just on the time you spend on them and the sculpt itself ( which is plentiful at 10 hours ). To give justice to your creature of myth and legend you can now take more time to perfect it to the finest detail.

You can choose a realistic style for your sculpt, but you can also try your hand at a stylized version as well. You can do a head or a bust, but a full body sculpt is extremely recommended.

Very important note:
Let's try this out:
Download the free application CamStudio here (http://camstudio.org/), and record your progress on the sculpt ( set it to save about one frame per second ). You will not have to display it to the public, only to the judges in case you qualify in the top three. Of course, you don't need to complete the whole sculpt in one sitting, so just resume recording whenever you return to the sculpt ( multiple video recording files are acceptable ). Feedback on this idea is welcome!

Please read all the rules and brief carefully. If there are any further questions, ask and they shall be answered.

wow those are some generous and amazing parameters for a sculpting challenge. the final entries on this challenge will probably be mind blowing. i might actually be able to properly finish a sculpt this time. lol

It will be my first entry since DW4.

Do you have any great idea of which creature you will do?!?

First of all ... Congratulations on the new forum .

Very Good and Fair the New Rules .... though I prefer the Base Mesh coming from you .

on the video record , would use the same process one frame per second within Zbrush ??? Run another soft for me would be Heavy ... my machine is weak .

Hugs !!!

02-11-2009, 06:34 PM
3dhorus: Or 1 frame per 10 seconds, however is best fro you. The idea is that the judges will see you actually spent the amount of time within rules, if you get in the top 3. These are some big prizes, after all :D

If I had supplied the base mesh, you wouldn't have the freedom to choose any creature of legend you want.

I'm game.

Freespace - if we have another screencap software is that okay to use. I'm going to say yes as being able to see the video, not how it was created is the important part.

So basically disregard this I suppose

Freespace-3DT
02-11-2009, 08:56 PM
Certainly, use any capture program you want. I simply recommended CamStudio because it's free.

The issue with recording your work is an experimental idea for this comp, we need to work out between us what works best and if it is even feasible and doesn't affect the enjoyment of the comps in any way, so we are really after your feedback.

I did some quick tests with camstudio, and was trying to find a way of recording a small file, that uses little memory and doesn't distract in any way. Remember your not making a video tutorial here, just some rough guide that you worked to the brief.

I have only played with camstudio for about 20 mins but so far I found these settings worked best.

options>video options
cinepak codec (but then i didnt really test the others)
Set key frame every '50'(not sure about this one)
capture frames every '1000' milliseconds
playback rate '1' frame/second

Region
fixed region
untick 'fixed top left corner'
width 200 pixels
height 200 pixels

options>program options
tick 'hide flashing rectangle when recording'

options>autopan speed
set to max (200)

If people get chance to play with this more then please post your recommendations on settings. Remember the goal is just to see very roughly/simply how you worked for the set time period, it's ok if your techniques/details are not that clear, hence you can just record a 200x200 window that follows the cursor, at just 1 frame per second.

I haven't even had chance to record doing any work with this yet either, I just hot reocrd and moved windows around my desktop for 30 secs, so if someone could post a few minutes of sculpting recording in this way, that would be great for us to check out also.

Many thanks in advance for helping us out with this one.

Tom

This is some awesome stuff! I don't know about recording the stuff though. Making things too much of a pain or complicated like that usually keeps me away. And the video can always be faked just as easily as images since thats exactly what video is. Also I am on a Mac and camstudio is not :(

I also like it when the base meshes are supplied. You could always have options; like a humanoid base mesh as well as a quadruped. I see how it is better to be able to make your own though.

Freespace-3DT
02-11-2009, 10:11 PM
Vancross, I really didn't want to make entering the challenge a pain, but we figured we'd try this out and see how it works out. Besides, if you're on Mac, I'm certain there's some other software for this. ( maybe this: http://www.chimoosoft.com/products/captureme/ ? )

If it still doesn't work for you, go ahead and sculpt anyway. We're trying this out and seeing how people react to it. Would be a shame not to enter the contest. :)

By Mythical creature, can we do Seraphim or something like that, or a creature must be a beast or an animal from fiction?

can it be a humanoid shape?

Hello everyone! I love the new format, like the rules of recording videos I beem more just so, so hope to get up in my work I will participate more in this competition, congratulations to the organizers to encourage above all the practice of modeling! Thank you all!!

My model will be the Griffin (griffon or gryphon (see below) is a legendary creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. As the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle was the king of the birds, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Griffins are normally known for guarding treasure.[1] In antiquity it was a symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine.

The thing about supplying your won base mesh is a good idea when thinking of possibilities. But some people might have a hard time making a good enough base...
So this gives the people who are good modelers an extremely good head start...

Couldn't you guys supply a mesh (or a couple of different ones) with which everyone could enjoy total freedom of using it or not... You should also be able to "fix" the base to your liking before going ahead...

This is what I think would be most fair.. (even though people making more out of the box stuff wouldn't have it quite as easy as the other contestants...)

Edit: great contest idea though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a pretty good idea. But it would give a time advantage to people who choose the supplied mesh, over the people who want to make their own.

Yeah exactly. But it's still so that those people are usually pretty good at their particular app... And they could still make modifications of a preexisting mesh...

I love the idea of recording our work sessions by the way. It really helps to ground the pieces. It should also make for some sweet vids to watch the sculpting of the winning pieces! On the other hand it should help to remove the "honesty" part from these comps. I know sometimes I have to stop and think...there is no way that is 4hrs of work. Maybe it's just me though.

Alright, a couple of questions.

Most of my sculpts get a timelapse right in Z already. Would this be a "usable" way to show time on task? I'm asking mainly because that is one less app needed to be open and more RAM getting to go straight to Z.

Also, Can we sculpt on any piece (a box) and retopo post to give us a "base mesh". I mean, I find breaking the two pieces apart (form and function) to be an invaluable asset. By that I mean I work on my sculpt with as little as possible. Basically box modeling stick people or dogs etc. And then sculpting until I have the idea of form and silhouette, then doing a retopo to give me the technical side of the polys so I can get even more out of the mesh.

Since we have 10hrs on this I don't see a problem with taking an hour at the end to retopo. It's basically the same as taking an hour at the start to get a base mesh.

Does that make sense?

Sure, you can use the Zbrush timelapse. It's important for the judges to see the time you spent, in case you reach the top 3. The video itselft will not be released publicly unless you want to - this of course applies to everybody.

Sure, retopo at will. No restrictions on the base mesh here!

Nope. Free range. As far as i can tell the only real guidelines are it has to be a "creature of legend" and you have 10hrs.

04-11-2009, 08:24 PM
hmmm and do you know if we have to create a legend and a creature? or we can get a existing legend?

hmmm and do you know if we have to create a legend and a creature? or we can get a existing legend?

I believe we can't make up the legend. If I am reading the brief correctly that is, but I could be wrong on this point. I would wait for FreeSpace to let you know about that.

goast666
04-11-2009, 09:02 PM
Freespace - we can change the creature to fit out tastes correct? Say, a cybernetic cyclops? I don't want to do that, but I do want to change the creature to be a bit different than it is actually written to be.

I would like to do the chimera but I want to change it from a snake, lioness, and goat. I want to throw a bit of dragon in there as well.

You're not a style or design Nazi so I figure this is okay but we should always ask the art director before going to far forward I suppose.

mastein: No limit on meshes this time. You can use over 9000 of 'em. :D :D

goast: Hahah, style Nazi. ;P Sure you can have design freedom with your chimera, but I wouldn't encourage sci-fi twists in there ( since you mentioned that hypothetical cyberclops; I know what you want to do, but I'm just throwing this idea for everyone - this is a fantasty theme ). It's about legends and myth.

Another great competition... I'm in!

I chose Glauco.

Glauco was a sea deity whose origins differ in different sources. His best known story is that told by Ovid.

According to this version, Glaucus was a mortal fisherman. Accidentally discovering a magical herb which could bring the fish they caught back to life, decided to try it yourself. After eating the grass, Glaucus became immortal, but also has fins and tail of fish, which force them to live the rest of their lives in water. Although dissatisfied with this side effect, Glauco was received by Oceanus and Tethys with the honors of the deities, of whom learned the art of prophecy.

Decosouza that looks like it's going very well. Looking forward to the final sculpt. So, I didn't do much of anything this weekend but I figure I'll work on it some tonight.

Realized about 20 minutes in that I hadn't hit the record button. This is about 20 minutes into the sculpt. I am recording the rest of the way using ZBrush's timelapse feature.

The last sculpt challenge I participated in was way back with the real life cartoon challenge. But this one is going to make me brush off the wacom and dive right in. I'm thinking about tackling Ganesha, the four armed elephant....

Ganesha is Vighneshvara or Vighnaraja, the Lord of Obstacles, both of a material and spiritual order. He is popularly worshipped as a remover of obstacles, though traditionally he also places obstacles in the path of those who need to be checked. Paul Courtright says that "his task in the divine scheme of things, his dharma, is to place and remove obstacles. It is his particular territory, the reason for his creation."

Been A while since I was on the forums...I think it's time to dive back in. I'm doing a dark imp. Got my basemesh pretty much work out in a z-sketch. Took about ten minutes so far. I tried recording but it was a pain so I'm not bothering with it, hope my entry will still count.

I like the ZSphere layout Polysmooth. I really need to practice more with those.

Sorry for the crap quality. I didn't realize I had to set a slider to up the res. Recorded at 1 frame per second in Zbrush exported out at the same speed. Next one will be better. Still lots to do on the model.

Thanks. The legs are short on purpose. I wanted to make it easier for him to see while at the same time giving him a misshapen feeling. human-like but not human. That said, I did feel like his buttocks was too low, so I raised that up as you can see in this shot:
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z238/the_3dartist/aigamuxa_sculpt_turn1.jpg

That's what i was doing for the first part of the new video I posted, where the camera didn't move much.

In order to see, he must either grab a foot and lift it up or get down on his hands and knees so he can stick his foot out. His eyes are on his instep.

ilya.kachura, that's some nice sculpting. The outfit is starting to look a bit futuristic to me but hey, who says Vamps don't exist in the future? :) Keep going!

Hi 3Gkamal, there's a creature wiki link on the very first post in this thread by the moderator. It is under "The Brief". They are mostly descriptions and should be enough to allow your imagination take over. GL to you.

Okay, I'm going to call the actual sculpting done but I have to put him in a pose, so there may be some minor clean up to do after that. Can't put him in the pose I wanted (holding his foot out by one hand and leaning on a weapon with the other). The eye position wouldn't make sense for that unless the person he was chasing was behind him. So I think I'll do something else. All told, it's been about 6 hours (maybe a little less but that's a nice round number) from start to finish so I've still got 4 hours to go. Think I may be able to make a base in that time to aid in the posing.

I've started with a brand new character "wolverine", cause I hadn't made a video for my first model "vampire".
This work was done in 4 and a half hours, I still have over 6 hours to go, which I'm going to split into the following stages:

2) arms - 2 hours
3) legs - 2 hours
If I could finish earlier, I'll pose a character in some interesting way )))

This is my very first post on the forum, been around here for a while browsing through peoples stuff, but never had the gut to show my own skills in a challenge.

Well here it goes:

I'm going to make a Pukwudgie, this is a tiny troll that is infamous in Native Armerica. People claim to have seen them a couple of times, they can use magic (like casting fireballs) and use spears to poke people with . He's not a big fellow either about 2 to 3 foot tall. More on the story about Pukwudgie's can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pukwudgie

I'm making him a bit more Lord of the Rings stylish trolls. Almost like Orcs if you ask me. I hope you guys like what I've done so far, gone pretty wild with it giving him some clothing and weapons too:

What would be the best settings to use in camstudio?

You need to build it specifically for this challenge. But you could have your preexisting mesh next to it for reference while you do it.

Hold on, there. Recording would be recommended, but we're still trying this out ( some people are annoyed by it; others neglect to read the whole brief; etc ), so it's not compulsory.

Also, Tom gave out some suggestions on using Camstudio, here:

It's not big deal for me starting again, I wasn't happy with the base mesh anyhow.
I can see why i'm getting huge files, I didn't change the codec, it was set to microsoft video 1.

Freespace-3DT

ilya.kachura: Great job! In the remaining hours, you could fine tune the hair on the hands and arms ( give it more volume ). Another thing would be to break the symmetry with small details like scars and damage, or a slightly differently shaped muscle ( in the abdomenal area for example )

As for the video, you can certainly convert to something smaller, and you can upload it to sites like Vimeo or Youtube.

I feel confortable sculting in zbrush but I find zshperes a pain to use. I would like to be able to make the whole thing in zbrush but im not sure about how it would work if I model wings a tail and three heads my computer has problems displying stuff when im on level 6.

Do I need to model these parts then cut them off?
Is there a way to hide bodyparts or selcetions while working in zbrush like in mudbox?
Should I just make te base mesh in 3dsmax and import them in pieces?
And last question is I want to have all three faces roaring or snarling so as far as making a touge and teeth what would be best make in zbrush or before? And what would be faster?:???:

Fantastic. I haven't done a sculpting challenge in a while and this looks like a great one to jump back in for.

And given it's not often one hears the term Canadian/Algonquian mythical legend, I'm going to try out a Wendigo:

"The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tautly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and ******. Unclean and suffering from suppuration's of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption."

Here's a quick WIP of the Wendigo. Just an hour or so into it, all the antlers are going to be added as separate sub-tools.

Due to the difficulties I am having with a three headed chimera and this is my first speed sculpt I am modeling a one headed chimera with no wings. This should help me speed up my work flow.Beside there are single head wingless versions of the creature anyways so should be fine. This is my base mesh so far I am 2 hours in took me longer then planned to make the base mesh but oh well I am a noob(lol).

Nice base mesh Dack. You might want to round out the legs and tail a bit more and reduce some of the geometry as well. What will happen when you bring it into z-brush with all those extra edges is create a hard surface that will be harder to round out.

Just put a turbosmooth on it if you created it in max and you will see how it will start to look when you increase the sub-d level while sculpting. Right now it will probably look like he has blocks instead of a more natural looking roundness to him.

Bryzol,

Wiki says: "In Greek mythology, Medusa (Greek: Μέδουσα (Médousa), "guardian, protectress"[1]) was a gorgon, a chthonic female monster, and a daughter of Phorcys and Ceto..."

I think she serves as a creature of legend :)

Freespace, Lynette! -I know that Medusa is a creature, but I thought to make something more spectacular for this challenge and I mentioned about King Leonidas, who is legendary but definately is not a creature :haha: Probably becouse of my "fantastic" English you've understood me wrong, but thanks for support anyway! :) You both do here fantastc job! By the way, I was lucky that Medusa is a creature becouse as I said before I thought that the theme is a bit different, and before that I was so shure that I can read :)

Pables - thanks, she whouldn't get you petrified for such a compliment :)
Jabberwock -thanks man, I'm happy you like it!

Becouse of being seek, I'm at home for whole week :) so I have a lot of time for sculpting. I've just started another creature: Cyclops, hope you like it, it's near to 2h of work at the moment. Still need some details on the head but I wanted to share my progress. I'm thinking of makeing a torso with hands, I will add legs if I can make it within time limit.

- mastein; good work on the dragon

Anyway here's a first update on my faun. Finally found some time to start sculpting...had to start over with the basemesh, so lost some time with that.

delavega -Can't wait to see whole figure of it. The anathomy looks great allready. I'm hapy you like my medusa, I had to delete higher subdivision levels of snakes becouse of memory problems, so I've lost some detail on it, I have fev minutes left for this sculpt, so maybe I can add some quick body deformations to them, the effect of bending and twisting.

Awsome looking sculpts so far. Biano3d, love the concept sketch you drew up, looking forward to seeing the final product, you've got a pretty solid start.

Does anyone know, once you've recorded all your commands in zBrush and saved them, how to recall and replay those commands? I was having trouble using camtasia while sculpting, so I'm trying to just save all my commands and then record using camtasia while the commands are replayed by zBrush. Never really tried that before, so I don't know quite how it's supposed to work.

Will hopefully have an update for later tonight.

A New Challenge, woohooo! (bit late to the party).

After having gone through a ton of different creatures I've set my mind on making an ape type creature and would love to make none other than the amazing Sun Wukong: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Wukong

After I started I found out I accidently clicked on "japanese" and was forwarded to the legendary creatures from japan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_from_Japan#S

So my question is: does Sun Wukong qualify as a creature of legend?

Hey just to be clear about the posing being timed also with the 10 hours dose that include the rigging process becuase rule 6 says no rigging.

6. No rendering, texturing, lighting or rigging – let's keep it all about the high-res sculpt! What we are looking for is the quality of the sculpt you can produce. If your entry is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable and on topic.

I haven't been able to find where it talks about posing the character in the rule yet either I'm not sure if maybe its on a different article or if I'm miss reading something.

Thanks for the help,

paulius-st
23-11-2009, 10:45 AM
steban - as for my self, to sculpt i learned in school and by messing with zbrush, to model i learned in univercitie. but to work with 3d's-max i learned by my self because we were working with cad aplications. and ofcourse lots and lots of hard work . others are learning in coleges, schools where they teach various artists. try the allmighty google. you'll find lots of information about this

Freespace-3DT
23-11-2009, 11:45 AM
I learned everything the good old fashioned way: stare at other people's work long enough, then try doing something myself. Repeat. Repeat. By the time I started checking out tutorials, I had learned the basics. But tutorials do help out, if they're the "here's a trick how to" kind of tutorials - the ones that teach a specific thing, that could otherwise take you a long time to figure out.

bryzol
23-11-2009, 01:25 PM
I've lernt sculpting in art school and in Fine Art Academy but zbrushing and 3d aplications by my self, watching tons of tutorials almost everyday, if I have a problem I'm looking for a tutorial about it, it's fastest way to learn and you always find somthing more than you were looking for in evrey tutorial. If you are looking for a good zbrush lessons go and see what they've got in zclassRoom. Lots of goods in Gnomon but you have to pay for it and I guess guys from 3dt have a lot of good stuff to buy too.
I agree with Freespace that watching other's works is very important too. This sculpting challenges are great becouse you can see progress of many great sculptors here and learn from them!

Puckducker

Latest update on the Wendigo. Got an hour or so left to add some final details, maybe pose him.

Again, asking if anyone knows how to recall the saved zBrush commands so I can replay the sculpt to record with camtasia. When I "load" the command file, nothing happens.

And for Steban, like most other people, I just learned from lots of tutorials and lots of practice. There is such a wealth of zBrush training material out there, usually for free, that you'll trip over it. The important thing is just to take things slow, concentrate on form at the start and slow start to work towards finer and finer details. The biggest mistake you'll see in people who are just learning zBrush is that because they can add the fine details like wrinkles/skin texture/hair, at any time they want, they rush into it and start adding them to their sculpt before they even have the basic shapes down. So it's just about slowly building up your sculpt and developing your own sculpting styles.

Dack
23-11-2009, 03:00 PM
I learned how to use 3ds max in school but Ive been using mudbox for a few years and now I just recently got into zbrush. Believe me I know how frustrating it is when u start sculpting something. Your like how the hell do I get started! You probably have a million questions and don't know where to begin that's why u take advantage of forums like this one and invest in dvd's on the topics u want to learn also there are alot of free resources out there u just have to keep googling plus tons of videos on youtube. So that's how I been learning my sculpting skills next to that is practice and more practice. And be sure to find anatomy pictures of anything your going to sculpt in order to make sure your sculpt comes out realistic.

Broke away some free time [can hardly call it that] to work on
the Imp....I'll have to give him a name sooner or later..anyway..
I was looking at the silhouette and didn't like the proportions.
Decided to go with the standard bending leg instead of what I
had...I think the feet might be able to balance the character
[ no pun...] Got about 5 hrs in and 5 to go...just might make it.
That would mean working a couple hours on Thanksgiving.. @nd
I think I'm down with that.

Important!

As you all no doubt know, among a ton of other stuff, the first place winner will also receive a 300$ 3d print of their sculpt, from Shapeways. However, you will need to upload your model to Shapeways (http://www.shapeways.com/), before the judging begins, to qualify.

In other words, along with your final sculpt, get this sorted as well in due time. Otherwise you might miss out on a beautiful print in case you win first place.

i have a question.. if i have built a monster in zbrush using zpsheres.. do i have to take the model out into max or maya to uv it up before i start doing the high res stuff.. or is there a lazy way that will allow me to do the modelling completely before i have to UV it..

you can see what i'm talking about if your check out my link on the bottom

Neil, you don't need to UV it because you won't be needing to extract normal maps/displacement for it. The purpose of the Sculpting Challenge only concerns the sculpting part.

Hey Freespace!
Do you know what is the size of the print in inches?

Hey Freespace!
Do you know what is the size of the print in inches?

This is one of the reasons for submitting your model beforehand, you can get a quote of the size you would receive your model for $300.

Basically you just act as a regular user but without making the order and then if you win its ready to go.

Also the size depends on the material, you can even have it made in metal!

cheers

Tom

yeah i know.. but i'm not really entering into this comp.. i dont really have the time to get something worthwhile.. i do love the griffin and polysmooths entry so far.. ghosts videos using 3.5 were cool.. wouldn't mind getting my hands on that.. lol

but seriously.. UV's.. Is it best to export the mesh out as a low poly then UV and bring back into zbrush.. or just detail it and take it out..

I finished my base mesh, at last.

It took some time to find a good proportion for 5 heads in the same "dragon".

The wings gave me a beating as well.

Three hours by know, made this from scrath. Soon will be posting my videos in youtube, first I gotta compact them, they have 800MB!

Seven hours to sculpt and pose in ZBRUSH!

Quoting Anakin Skywalker: "This is when the fun begins!"

Gook luck to everyone!

Well, didn't take this much further than my last update, but I'm happy with the end result. Ended up loosing a bit of time trying to get in a good pose, but I decided to just leave it as neutral, just seems creepier to me.

I'm going to try to upload my video's if I can later, but first I need help figuring out how to playback my sculpt in zbrush after I've saved all the commands (any help with that would be appreciated)

The 3d print idea is awesome, but I don't think I'm going to have the chance to submit my model before hand as I'm leaving tonight and won't be back before the 30th. Is it critical to submit it before the judging goes through? I'm somewhat confused why this cannot be done afterwords.

Polysmooth: great work as usual, I really enjoy the results of your sculpts.
maxtx: awesome final work, I like the anatomy work, seems to work well even though it's a fantasy creature.
hulahuga: Great dragon man, I was thinking there were going to be a number of dragons, but it seems you've got pretty much everything covered.
paulius-st: I agree with Freespace, use that extra half hour and just carve in some form into the hand. Especially given the pose he's in. Cool stuff otherwise.
delavega: Thanks, yeah the character is a little more obscure, I've only ever heard of it in ghost stories. But one particular story "The Wendigo" from the Alvin Schwartz story collection "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" (http://www.amazon.com/Scary-Stories-Tell-Dark-Anniversary/dp/0064401707/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259282981&sr=8-1), this what I always imagined the wendigo looked like. From what the "official" legend says, the look of the creature always varies, a lot of the ref I collected was very different, from human creatures to dead horse creatures to werewolf like ones. So I kinda was just exploring different idea's for most of it.

Alright everyone, there are a lot of very good sculpts here. Don't forget there are three days left for you to submit them in the Final Submissions thread.

Also, if you haven't read about the 300$ print of your sculpt in case you win first place, know this:

As you all no doubt know, among a ton of other stuff, the first place winner will also receive a 300$ 3d print of their sculpt, from Shapeways. However, you will need to upload your model to Shapeways (http://www.shapeways.com/), before the judging begins, to qualify.

I got 2 hours left and I still gotta pose him. Wish I
had time to work some areas up...Maybe I'll keep it
going once the comp is over, refine some things...

Hello to all, very beautiful work here, congratulations to all!

Freespace-3DT: Sorry I have doubts as to send my model for print, how to proceed? We must send the model in zbrush, or prepares it in some way? My model is not in a position that has support to remain standing, I wonder if I have to prepare a piece for it stand up if it is printed. And lastly we have to subscribe and send directly to the company, as we identify it pra know that it is in relation to the 3dtotal prize? Tanks!!!

Freespace-3DT

maxtx: First of all you need to sign up: http://www.shapeways.com/register ; Then you Upload. Though, I have no idea about the rest of the process or the requirements. I'll ask Tom about it and we'll get back to you, and all members who would like this if they win 1st place. :D

Freespace-3DT Tanks! I'm waiting! I registered, but the rules say that if you send the model has a lot of rules to be followed, my fear is the model up and commit to printing, and did not win anything you know? It would be better better send to you? Hug! Excuse my English!
