Hi,
This is my first attempt at a challenge and a Matte painting so I'm going to see how it goes. My initial idea is for a landscape, which focus on a mountain a bit like the lonely mountain from a certain book! With the foreground full of burnt trees and a very barren landscape. My first sketch of the landscape is below.

Any comments are more than welcome

Hi, A quick update,
i've started on the final composition, the rocks were generated in Vue Pioneer 8. The cloud/sky is from a photograph. Not much but I had only an hour to play today today, hopefully should get more done in the week. The main things is start tying the elements together and get some dead trees and lava in there.

Been busy adding more lava flows and dead tress getting pretty happy with the result now. Made more of an entrance to the lair. Debating wether to add a row of mountains in the background. Want to paint the smoke/steam better any suguestions?

Hi, This is my final update on the challenge, as my first attempt at a Matte painting I've try to keep away from a stylized painting to much. I've learnt a lot from this challenge and I am looking forward to the next one and hopefully I'll get better.
Thanks for looking

Hi matty. I think it looks great for your first matte. The one thing I would look at is your skies perspective. Your model of the landscape looks like it has a well defined horizon but seems to be lost in your final. Just my 2 cents. GL!

I wish I'd knocked the smoke down a bit, and found a way to give it more depth. Have learnt a lot and will try again in the next challenge, thanks for the feed back.

PS Love your Matte paintings
