I needed something to do so I browsed the tutorials here at 3D total. I decided to do the Sharky tutorial by Nikola Drincic, only catch I use Maya so I had had to ajust some things.

Cool, Dark Bob. :D
You might want to increase the Sub-surf/Meshsmooth a tad though, there seem to be a few sharp edges.
I don't know the name of this function in Maya I'm afraid.
Sonix.

Hi Dark Bob,
nice going. About the shark, a little bit more work and it will look great. Like Sonix sad try to increase smoothnes of model... And maybe to make a tail a little bit smaller, but thats up to you.
For the backgroud, I see no shadows so just use solid white color. You do not need that 90 degrees bend plane. It just increase render time.
all the best

I have a little animation worked up in my head so he will be getting some more faces.
The bended plane in the render is a reflect surface for a GI file I have. I can get the same results with Mental Ray GI but this one renders faster. I think it took all of 60 seconds to get that render out.
thanks for the coments.
