SMC M#01 - Japo - Legendary Weapon - Legend

Hello :)
I will post my new legendary weapon in this post.
Before I do so, I created a little teaser game. Can you guess what weapon hides under the cloak? I will give some clues. I will be adding clues too, and unlike those already revealed, those will be more and more specific.

a) It is most likely you know this weapon.
b) If you dont know this weapon, it is almost certain you have seen it on a picture.
c) It is unique. There is only one - no copy of it ever worked.
d) It truly is legendary (in all meanings of the word).
e) This weapon is said to have been wielded by one demigod. Yet even he needed extra tool to handle it.
f) This weapon kills in very special way. No weapon we have today kills in this fashion. Not even experimental weapons.
g) This clue will be revealed later.
h) This clue will be revealed later. And it will be the last clue :)

It indeed is Medusa's head. Weapon used by demigod Perseus kills by turning anything living into stone. Perseus needed a polished shield to reflect Medusas visage to fight her, and later on to use her head. Just looking at it would turn him into stone.
It is weapon from legend, and even there it is legendary. It is legendry by any meaning of the word.
It is very likely you know who Medusa and Perseus were.
If you dont, its likely you have seen the head, either on door, building, picture, book, film, cartoon, computer game, even logo.

And here is the head of Medusa. Like other copies, this one doesnt work either ;). The model is loosely based on Medusa's head by Josef Müllner.

Modelled in 120 minutes.
Software used: 3Ds max 2008, beauty and clay rendered with Vray.
Textured, lighted, camera adjusted in.. oh no, you dont want to know. SSS material, lights, camera...
Texture for snakes is from vraymaterials.de

For 120 minutes of work this looks very good, however I think the eye texture/shader needs work. At the moment it seems kind of flat, and maybe you could make them more intense and bright (considering looking into them turns people to stone). Other then that I like it, keep it up.

Full marks to the way you presented this piece on the forums. Totally gripping. However to be honest I really didn't think it would end up being Medusa's severed head. Very nice render, my feedback would be to make her seem more scary. Its one thing to see a seductress Medusa, it's entirely another to see her head floating as a weapon. More decay or the ripped skin etc. Just a thought :)

And here is the Medusa I used for final entry. I have adjusted those eyes a bit in photoshop to make them more lively.

As for making them "lethal" I didnt go that way, because the legend says entire head was dangerous, not just eyes. I think it has been Clash of Titans that introduced killing eyes.

And as for making the head paler, decayed, or even monstrous... that would have been "cheating" on my part. I mean I intended to do the head in "classic" fashion, as it has been portrayed by Caravaggio, or Rubens - female head with snakes for hair. That way it has been more challenging. Well at least for me :)

Doing decayed head would have been a way out of lips, nose, and feminine features. It would have been fun, but it would not have been a challenge :)

the great thing about scoring goals in pes is that they feel like u actually created them. I may not be explaining this well but compare it to fifa, it just feels way more mechanical and doesnt have the same effect as pes when scoring
