Being a newbie with maya,i had someday to do something to learn it.Lately i am making a 3d human model in maya.I decided to export it and imported in to 3dmax.What i found out is that when i am importing it the model cant be smoothed.I mean in maya if i press the number key 3 it smooths, but in max i go to smoothing groups and still i can see the quads instead of a smoothed model.

To succesfully imported it in to max,do i have to set any options? Also that made me wondered, this model is going to be imported in to UDK when is done,in UDK the model will be smoothed or with quads.

Sorry for all that, but i've never used softwares such us maya and zbrush, except 3d max which i spent 2 years learning all its tools, and i found the oportunity to learn maya now that i have to make a project,so anything can really help me to understand maya.

Thanx for your time:)

p.s. i can post images if you are puzzled about what i am trying to doXD

make sure you export the model with no smoothing groups on it.

no idea, when i had this issue i re-exported the mesh from max as an obj and made sure the smoothing groups werent included in the export.

yup, everything is fine,i also noticed that if you import a mesh directly from maya to max and you hit the sub-division button, the mesh will have a funny color.
