I think I'm going to have enough time to actually enter this one which makes a change! Character modelling isn't really my thing so I need to practice.

I'm torn between a muscle-bound freak of a man with many battle scars and perhaps a little influence from Ash out of the Living Dead series or alternatively a female character based somewhere along the lines of Firefly/Mad Max right now

I started sketching the female character's body just for practice and this is as far as I've managed to get so far. I'm thinking trench coat and perhaps a shotgun and/or sword strapped to her back with various other small blades attached here and there to her outfit. I know the proportions aren't quite right in the sketch right now and that's also something I need to practice, so this could get interesting! Also I think the boots will be a little more S&M that the current outline ;)

Quick paint over with a coat in place to see how it looks

Thanks mate. I might make her body a little older to suggest that she is more of a survivor. I also think that I need to add something to make her look more of a warrior, but we shall see how it goes!

Er, just realised I defaulted to Spudmonkey in the title instead of Perversonality... It's still me!

Concepts looking nice. Any plans for her head such as hairstyle or head gear?

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of modelling heads so I will probably go with something that allows me to spend less time in that area. Some sort of military eye piece and a scarf around her mouth is where I'm thinking right now though it's open to change. Hair might be shaved to avoid lice but she will definitely have some sort of hat to fit in with the future-western feel.

I'm off visiting family this weekend so I doubt I will find time for sketching, but I may come up with something!

sweet sketch concept. :D

Thanks mate :)

I didn't get the chance to sketch the head, but I did find some interesting looking boots which are more along the lines of how I think they should look

Might go for a solid base to the boot though to make it more rugged, rather than having a separate heel. I'm also thinking that a couple of Kukri (Gurkha) knives on her back would look good, maybe with a shotgun too

Is this head too small? Looks a little off to me... As I said, I hate doing heads! ;)

The head is the right size. It's the legs that are throwing it off.

You've got these legs of exagerated proportion (which is a nice style, IMO) but it just doesn't gel with the other stuff. Seems like the rest of your model is striving for realism.

If you're going for realism, I would change up the legs. But if you're going for stylized, then I would play around with exagerating the proportions in other places like forearms.

Hope this helps!

Ah yes, that's it :) Thanks! I think I might start a model and play with the proportions in 3d to see which is more fun

Hmmm, maybe just bringing the hips in a bit will be enough to make it better...

Side-by-side comparison with a slightly larger head on the original body... Can't decide!

well, I think the issiue is still in the legs, rather than the head, it looks fine in your first few concepts. The legs are so far apart that it throws off the proportions of the rest of the body. Also, the legs look abit thick, maybe play with slimming them down some and see how that looks. But I would wait on that, till after the space between them is fixed. That could change the overall leg look in it's self.

I agree with toe about the legs being the issue, the original head is fine. I'm diggin the theme too man. cant wait to see more!

I guess 3d will help sort things out

The company made me go out to a restaurant and drink alcohol for 10 hours, so I'm in no fit state to do 3d right now :D

also... kinkyboots and kukris? i like!

Its looking pretty good. i'm gonna agree with BigToe about the legs. It's almost as if you couldn't decide whether to go realistic or JetSet Radio stylised with the huge legs and ittybitty everything else.

Hurray for the weekend! Time to work on the model at last :)

Legs are blocked out, though the proportions and shape will probably change slightly as I go. I'm trying to model it pretty cleanly and may actually do as much of the model as possible in low poly before sculpting as I want the core to be right before I move on to the details

Norks!!!!

Just modelling the upper body so that I can get the shape of the clothes right. I can optimize later if I need to, but with a 10,000 limit I may be able to keep pretty much everything for more dynamic poses

Bit more progress, rendered to show how it looks smoothed

Nice start, the "calf" muscle is looking awfully high up on the back of the leg and there's a bit of a lack of any definition as far as the knee goes, might be worth checking that our from a proportions stand point. Shapes looking pretty good over all tho. I like your concept.

what the dude above me said, and i'd scale those legs in a bit... they're feeling a bit wide / thick, though that is looking to be more of a stylistic choice (is it?). overall its looking good though :)

I remember hearing that it's three heads width from shoulder to shoulder. Maybe build a quick mockup and check it in 3d, helps me out sometimes.
Neat concept - don't get bogged down on it:D

he is quite right...as I suggested to another guy take a look a Steven E. Gordon homepage cuz he does a great job dealing with the "heads rule" for both male/female young/old...

try this. Where it says "two heads, one head" ignore that mess. The idea here is to get the body parts where they need to be.

Nice toe, I think that will help a lot of contestants in the future, I know I've already saved it! Keep up the progress Spud!

The concept is looking great. The boots reference is killer. They will bring lots of sexiness to the character. ;)
